ARCHIVED Namaste Pizza Crust
Juliebove replied to Courtney09's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My daughter has not had a problem with any of the Namaste products, but she has food allergies and not celiac. -
ARCHIVED Recomendations On Eating Out
Juliebove replied to jyoung's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The additonal food restrictions would make it very difficult to dine out! I'm not even sure it would be doable. What you might have to do is type up a card to carry with you that lists the foods you can eat. Then go from there. I have made several cross country moves and at one point was living in a motel for about a month. I did not know of my food... -
Not my recipe but I give it rave reviews. Open Original Shared Link I accidentally pulled off four cloves of garlic so used them all. Used 3, boneless, skinless chicken breasts which was not enough meat compared to the amount of veg. Next time will doube the chicken and have leftovers. Cooked for 30 minutes. Could have served it then, but would...

ARCHIVED I Feel So Lucky!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Today is really good. Had a really good dinner and it's gluten-free. Not my recipe but here it is: Open Original Shared Link I accidentally took off 4 cloves of garlic, so used them all. Used three, boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Not enough chicken compared to the amount of veggies. Next time will double (or more) the amount and have leftovers... -
We prefer the small, family owned places. They will usually work with us and they remember us. Of course it helps that we tend to order the same thing all the time. We have multiple food allergies so really no choice.

True, but I have read here that those two are not good places to eat if you need gluten-free. I don't know much about Red Lobster. I don't like seafood and am allergic to oysters so wouldn't attempt to eat there. But Applebees? They have wheat in their chicken! Everything comes frozen. Olive Garden has some gluten-free options. The pasta is safe...

ARCHIVED Vulvodynia Anyone?
Juliebove replied to PrincessHungry's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My friend has this. She has showed me the recommended diet for it. But she hasn't tried it. Reason being she has food allergies and if she eliminated all the other foods on top of what she already can't eat, her diet would be extremely limited. She is supposed to have some sort of surgery to help, but I don't know the particulars on that. -
ARCHIVED I Feel So Lucky!
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This got even better! He used the 3 Tab shingles I had stashed away (the job took all but one of them) and has already fixed the roof. And for a very good price as well! -
Gluten is not an issue for me (is for daughter) and I have other food allergies. But I will list my current breakfast. And that is pre-made polenta, cut in thin slices, topped with plain tomato sauce and nuked in the microwave. I also eat a handful of pinenuts, walnuts, pecans or pumpkin seeds for protein. Makes a nice filling meal. Sometimes I gel up...

ARCHIVED Lord's Supper-Communion- Questions
Juliebove replied to tiredofbeingsickandtired's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't normally go to church but daughter wanted to go so I took her. As luck would have it, they were doing communion. As a diabetic, I shouldn't have juice. Gluten is not an issue for me but I do have additional allergies so didn't know if the bread would be safe. What I did was take the tiniest sip of the juice, then pretended to eat the bread but... -
We were having a bad storm here in the Pacific Northwest. I don't think it's over but has subsided. Lost our power. I had just come back on and not long after I heard the most horrid noise. Sounded like the roof coming off. As it turns out, it was in fact the roof coming off. Or the tiles anyway. I grabbed down the ones that had slid to the edge...

I don't think Red Lobster and Applebees are good! Both have a disclaimer on their websites that they can not guarantee cross contamination and that people with food allergies should order with caution. Neither has a gluten-free menu. PF Changs has a gluten-free menu.

ARCHIVED Vegetables
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm a super taster and I believe she might be as well. I can eat a bite or two of raw broccoli but not even a speck of the cooked stuff. She's the same way. Husband hates vegetables too and mostly won't eat them. He eats meat and fruit. That doesn't help. She doesn't really like most fruit either. I can't blame her there as I can't stand the... -
ARCHIVED Vegetables
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She is good to try things. And up until recently she did eat hummus. The problem with most salad dressings is that they contain something that she either is allergic to or has outgrown. She has outgrown egg and dairy allergies so can have those things only twice a week. She does like Ranch dressing. She just can't have it very often. She has also outgrown... -
ARCHIVED Vegetables
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She'll be 12 in July. We have plenty of food in the house so if she doesn't like what I serve, she just tosses it out and gets something else to eat. As for dressing, we don't usually eat it. I can't stand the stuff myself. But I do like vegetables. -
I used to consider myself lucky. Daughter loved canned green beans and black olives. They were her favorite foods. Now she will no longer eat green or wax beans. Not at all, ever. For a couple of weeks she switched to canned corn. A grain. I know. But better than nothing. Now she refuses to eat that. She will eat raw carrots. Lots of those...

ARCHIVED Need Help With Transitioning To Mostly Gluten Free Household
Juliebove replied to concernedmamma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our situation is a bit different in that we are dealing with allergies and not celiac. But pretty much the same diet. What we did was to buy a little refrigerator for my daughter's food. We did this for a variety of reasons. She wasn't old enough to be able to read labels and figure out what was safe for her. My husband and parents (just in case they... -
ARCHIVED Mushrooms
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Okay! Thanks for the replies! -
So I am watching a show on the History Channel about pizza. They are covering not only the dough but the toppings. And they are telling us about how mushrooms are grown. They broke open a bag of mushroom seeds. They said the seeds are usually started on millet, but sometimes they are grown on rye seeds. Now I can't say one way or the other, but it...

ARCHIVED Substitutes For Bisquick And/or Ritz Crackers
Juliebove replied to kyga's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The Scharr crackers that are sold on this site (and at other places) are very good. Our order came today. My only complaint with them is that they break easily. But that wouldn't matter if you're going to crush them up. -
ARCHIVED Can I Trust gluten-free Items On The Menu?
Juliebove replied to lakegirl410's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Oddly, I've found salads to be one of the worst things to order. You can tell them no croutons but often they will still be there. Worse yet, they will put them on them pick them off. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Vegan Desserts?
Juliebove replied to gintare519's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Have you tried chocolate avocado pudding? I am not a pudding lover, so I haven't. But it is purported to be good. Simply mix cocoa powder with mashed avocado and sweeten with agave nectar or whatever sweetener you use. Fruit parfaits are easy to make. Simply layer sliced bananas and whatever berries you like in a parfait glass or a big bowl. For the... -
ARCHIVED Baking Cheap, Crunchy Snacks?
Juliebove replied to David in Seattle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's easy to make your own potato chips if you have a deep fat fryer. If you don't, you can make them in the oven. Simply slice a potato as thinly as you can (peel or not). A mandolin makes the thinnest slices, but I've used a knife and it works. Brush the slices with olive or whatever kind of oil you use. Place on a baking sheet and bake until they... -
ARCHIVED Cookbooks For Multiple Allergies?
Juliebove replied to coriforia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook is the best I've found. Most of the others will have few recipes you can use if you are allergic to more than one thing!
