ARCHIVED Sami's Bakery
Juliebove replied to Rachella's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry you got no response on this. I know I have seen a post in the past on this and people said their stuff is prone to cross contamination. I don't know where that post is now though. -
ARCHIVED Going To A Cook Out
Juliebove replied to Crystalkd's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made a meal in foil that my daughter and husband liked, but I found it a bit boring. Each packet had a cube steak and a potato that had been thinly sliced and drizzled with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. At Girl Scout Camp, we made campfire stew over the grill. It was simply a potato, stalk of celery, carrot, small onion all cut up and mixed... -
ARCHIVED A Girl That Copies My Entire Home And Garden To The "t"!
Juliebove replied to Christina98's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I had this same thing happen many years ago, but it wasn't a girl. It was an older woman. She put up the same seasonal decorations inside her apartment as I did. We had drapes in those apartments and I used to leave mine open so my plants could get sun. I guess this is how she knew what I did. Then one day she had the nerve to steal my plants! I... -
ARCHIVED Can Ground Beef Chubs Contain Gluten?
Juliebove replied to dizzygrinch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just learned a new word! I had no clue what beef chubs were. Yesterday, my mom asked me about the ground beef I bought at Costco. Did it come in tubes? No. It did not. In fact I had never seen any beef packaged that way. Then yesterday in looking for the hot dogs, I found it and it was called chubs. I think it might have been frozen. I... -
ARCHIVED Is There Such Thing As A Gf Marshmallow?
Juliebove replied to 2new2celiacs's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glenny's makes Rice Crispy like bars that are good. Both plain and chocolate. Daughter liked the plain better. Not good if you have a nut allergy though due to cross contamination. Alas, she does have a nut allergy so can't have them. -
ARCHIVED Any Ideas...please?
Juliebove replied to mmmSmores's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm diabetic. Yes, carbs in any form must be counted. How much we can eat does vary. Be sure to tell the diabetic that you are using Splenda. They may assume it is sugar and if they use insulin, inject too much of it. Or if they are taking certain meds, they might take too much thinking the carb count is higher. You should make sure to have plenty... -
ARCHIVED Portable Foods For School
Juliebove replied to sweetlovelyjen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I was in school, I lived off of trail mix. I made my own with various nuts, seeds, dried fruit, chocolate or carob chips and maybe some coconut flakes. I always kept a bag in my purse so I was never without food. Fruit leather is another good thing to keep around. -
ARCHIVED Vans Gluten Free Pancakes
Juliebove replied to kimis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dang! Why do they have to use soy? The Ian's are good but a pain because you have to use the oven to heat them. -
ARCHIVED Any Vegetarians Who Became Meat Eaters After Diagnosis?
Juliebove replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have celiac, but I do have food allergies. I was a vegetarian for many years, then went vegan when I learned of my egg and dairy allergy. I kept getting anemia so learned that I must eat meat at least a couple of times a week. Mainly I eat Ian's chicken nuggets. I never really liked chicken nuggets before and from what I have read about them... -
ARCHIVED Sweet Rice As A Thickener?
Juliebove replied to doodle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Cornstarch can break down when food is reheated. I use Sweet Rice flour for all of my gravies and sauces. -
ARCHIVED Refried Bean Bread
Juliebove replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The bean bake sounds sort of like my taco pizza. I don't know about a yeast bread with pumpkin in it. All of the pumpking breads I've seen have been quick breads. I don't have an actual recipe for the bean bread. Just did a quick search and came up with tons. I liked that it would have protein in it. Would make a good snack. -
Would prefer one that didn't use eggs or dairy as well. I just watched an old "Baking With Julia" episode that I had seen before. The chef on there made bread using canned refried beans and Mexican type seasonings. She not only made a loaf of bread with this but made something like a pizza with it as well. Sounded really delicous when I first saw this...

ARCHIVED Butter/margarine
Juliebove replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Smart Squeeze by Smart Balance is free of gluten, dairy and soy. It's more of a liquid. Can't be used in cooking or baking but can be put on things like bread and potatoes. For baking I use coconut oil or olive oil. -
ARCHIVED Dairy Free And G/f Chocolate Easter Bunnies
Juliebove replied to JustMe75's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wheyout still isn't open. I did get some stuff from soyfree sales that works for us. -
Don't order it with a wheat allergy? Oh that's great!

ARCHIVED Question About Ener-g Breads
Juliebove replied to sarahzona's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The other poster is correct. But I believe they also make a yeast free bread if that's what you need. You might have to order it from them though. -
ARCHIVED New Ad For Quaker Rice Cakes
Juliebove replied to The Kids Folks's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think the Quaker Rice cakes have ever been gluten-free. At least they claim none of their products to be free from cross contamination. We only buy the Lundberg. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Here Allergic To Cats?
Juliebove replied to Armae's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am allergic to both cats and dogs. Currently have one cat. Over the years have had two other cats and two dogs. No problem with any of them. Can visit the pet stores that have shelter cats. No problem. But I visited my nephew who had one cat and three kittens. My eyes and nose began itching, I broke out in hives all over and I couldn't quit sneezing... -
Thanks! Too far away for me though. But since they are now in this state, maybe they'll put one closer to me. All sorts of commercial buildings are going up around me.

ARCHIVED Thyroid Overmedication
Juliebove replied to Roda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am off of thyroid meds now. I don't have celiac. Just food allergies. I used to eat a lot of soy products. When I stopped eating those, I no longer needed meds. -
Good food and fast! We used to eat there when we lived in NY. I don't think we have them here.

I make my own cream of mushroom soup because we can't have dairy. I had been using gluten-free flour to thicken, but also use powdered mushrooms because daughter doesn't like the texture of the chopped dried ones. I noticed that the powdered mushrooms were thickening the sauce too much so tonight I decided to try it without the flour. It worked! It worked...

ARCHIVED Heinz-gluten-free
Juliebove replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The tomato soup I've seen has wheat in it. -
ARCHIVED Salsa
Juliebove replied to stolly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Usually Muir Glen because that's what my health food store sells. Sometimes Amy's Organic. Both have chunks but are not overly chunky. I used to buy Pace. It's not chunky but I believe I read here it is no longer gluten-free. I could be wrong though. I usually use this type of salsa for making recipes like enchilada casserole or Spanish rice. For... -
ARCHIVED Help! My Son Is Eating Dirt
Juliebove replied to bear6954's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I believe the dirt eating is called Pica and is from an iron deficiency. Can he eat spinach or Swiss chard? You can mince these really fine, put in hamurger gravy, meatloaf, meatballs, or layer into lasagna.
