  1. nu, Thanks for the link, thats some great info! best regards, lm
  2. Shirley, I live in the Dallas, Texas area and have eaten corn tortillas all my life. As far as I know, corn tortillas are made out of only corn and as such should be gluten free. I have three different corn taco products right now and theres nothing listed that looks bad to me. Pretty simple, basic stuff. Are you concerned with cc? They have eleven plants...
  3. sg17, A quick trip to wikapedia reveals that disodium EDTA is a common anti-microbial preservative. See EDTA & preservatives in food: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link It inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi, which happens when you package food and don't eat it right away (I used to work at Frito Lay Research so I know...
  4. L88, At one time I thought that I might be lactose intolerant, but now think it was only a temporary condition associated with being undiagnosed celiac, ie. having celiac and eating gluten. I'm also trying to get some weight back. I make muffins, throw lots of stuff in there, make 'em real fattening. Eat yogurt, not fat free either. Switched to whole...
  5. cbd, I'm no expert and fairly new myself. But I start taking the tablets (as gpd said, the liquid makes me ill) if I determine I've got more than just a normal, common case of slight diarrheal. The sooner the better in my opinion. I sart with two, then one every meal or snack time, or following a bad bm (about every two hours I guess). If one didn't do...
  6. gpd, That was really impressive; what a lesson. You obviously know your stuff (no joke). Regarding the statement above. The last couple times I tried to take liquid Immodium over the last couple years, it made me feel worse, ill to my stomach. But the tablets did not, and worked fine. I had no idea there was gluten in it. Of course I didn't even know...
  7. cs, Very interesting. I actually have a package of sweet potato "powder". But it's appearently the starch, not the flour. It's white, is a large grind, kind of crunchy. Got it at an asian market. best regards, lm
  8. Wow, I'm impressed. Ok, you got a deal. thanks, lm
  9. us, Yeah, that was the worst when I found out I couldn't have my favorite dish - sourdough pie with beer noodles! But seriously, I've got a sourdough "starter" attempting in the kitchen right now. Used to be my fav, with the good crust and everything. Sometimes I would just have half a loaf with some excellent butter for supper. That's it, nothing else...
  10. Mary, I'm sorry, you need help, not negativity. That's got to be tough, being the parent of a teenage celiac. I've got two grown girls & one boy, 16. None celiac, although not gene tested. So I don't want to even imagine. I just can't think of anything KFC would have unless it's something pre-packaged. Do they warm the COTC in metal pans? If...
  11. mmm, As much as I love all things fried, I just figured I had walked thru my last fried chicken place door 7 weeks ago. Wouldn't there be massive CC problems? best regards, lm
  12. Hi abm, Welcome to the forum from another recent newcomer. lm
  13. ja & Kc, Wow! I never though of anything like that. I've never been much of a fruit eater. About the only fruit I get are the limes, lemons, and oranges I put in my margaritas. But when my doctor did all the blood work trying to find out what was wrong with me, he discovered I'm real low on potassium. So I started trying to eat a banana a day (plus...
  14. bg, There are two ways they can do it. My way, where you are put to sleep by an anesthesiologist ( and I do mean put to sleep as in count down from 10-9-8 lights out!). And your way, where you are sedated yet awake. I had your way for my colonoscopy, so I've done them both. best regards, lm
  15. What city are you referring to?
  16. Are you proposing that MSG may mimic gluten intolerance, or add to it? I don't profess to understand all the chemistry, but that sounds pretty far-fetched to me, especially any PH effect. I'm guessing that doctors & researchers would have seen that connection right off. But, who knows, you could win a Nobel prize or something! A quick trip to Open Original...
  17. Amy, Have you noticed that some recipes specify egg replacer and eggs? lm
  18. cl, I'm not an expert but can say what happened to me. "Does it hurt?" No, I was asleep and didn't feel a thing. "Will I feel anything?" No, I was asleep and didn't feel a thing. "Will my throat be sore?" No, mine was not, as far as I could tell, nothing happened. "Will I know anything tomorrow?" Yes & no. Mine gave his initial observations...
  19. mm, My good friend's Phillipino wife makes the most awesome "Lumpia rolls". They're thinner like you said without a lot of cabbage like egg rolls have. They serve them with a delicious asian chili sauce. Guess if I want those again, I'll have to make my own. best regards, lm
  20. Hey T, Yeah there is; gluten-free glop! best regards, lm
  21. hit, I've got you beat; I'm 55 & have never tasted cottage cheese. Heck, I had never tasted yogurt until I started having stomach problems a couple years ago; I heard it was good for that. Not sure what would have happened if I hadn't of started with the "whips"; They're light and mild. I've since gone on & am eating other kinds now. Same with...
  22. Blue cheese From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Blue cheese is a general classification of cow's milk, sheep's milk, or goat's milk cheeses that has had Penicillium cultures added so that the final product is spotted or veined throughout with blue or blue-green mold. ST, I wonder if that has anything to do with it? best regards, lm
  23. hit, Had a dumb attact at the grocery store on the way home from work and got ricotta cheese instead of cottage cheese. What's funny though, is both the "precious" brand, and the walmart brand ricotta cheeses have xanthan, locust bean, and guar gums listed in the ingredients. Obviously, I didn't read the ingredients on cottage cheese. It probably has...
  24. mm, Are spring roll wrappers rice paper, or normally wheat like regular egg rolls? thanks, lm
  25. Then what? Do you pre-bake the crust, or just fill & bake? lm
