ARCHIVED Trigger Point Injection Therapy
larry mac replied to dlp252's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Her doctor, who is a fibromyalgia specialist, explained it to us like this (actually as best I can remember & very simply in my words). You hurt and so automatically limit your physical activity and range of motion. This actually worsens the situation. It's a catch 22. By deadening the affected muscle area, you should feel less pain, which will allow... -
ARCHIVED Last Two Months...what A Roller Coaster!
larry mac replied to January Flower's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
gfp is referring to a laboratory instrument, actually a combination of two instruments. LC/MS - combines liquid chromatographic separation with mass spectrometric detection. We used to have a GCMS at Core Labs (for oil & gas analysis). Both are very expensive and require specialized training. It's definately not like on those TV shows. best regards... -

Good morning mikeanway, darlindeb, & happygirl! What a glorious day it is in the DFW metromess, gonna be 80 degrees today. Perfect bike ridin weather. Welcome to the forum mike. You were busy on your first day. An avatar, personal photo & info/statement! Wow, very impressive. Some don't ever do it, others like me take two months to get an avatar... -
ARCHIVED Recall - Frito's Chips (wheat/casein)
larry mac replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm guessing that some chili cheese product was inadvertently packaged in regular fritos bags. "Serious life threatening allergic reaction", that's pretty dramatic. I doubt if a 2 oz bag of chili cheese fritos is gonna kill me. Have to give them credit for treating it seriously though. It's possible no one would have really noticed that much. best regards... -
H, Well, I didn't want to say anything that might be considered rude (but I was sure thinking it). Haven't seen those Mr. Krispers, but I'll be on the lookout. Haven't found any gluten-free crackers worth a damn yet! best regards, lm

Dear Donna, I'd have to ask my wife for all the specific details you requested, but she has had fibromyalgia for at least eight years or so (no celiac though, that's me). She found a doctor that has a fibromyalgia wife and so treats it. Got the lidocaine (not sure what exactly was in there) trigger point shots for a while. They were effective for her shoulder... -
ARCHIVED Frozen Muffins Really Really Good, Bread Not So Much.
larry mac posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Calling all bread lovers, Need help thinking outside the breadbox! First, some observations. I make muffins about once a week. I've thrown all kinds of stuff in there and for the most part, they turn out great. I put each muffin in a baggie, and all the baggies in a large freezer bag. I take one out of the freezer in the morning. At 10:00 am, I microwave... -
Our Hard Rock Cafe (in Dallas) closed this week. I went there once when it first opened, long time ago. Not very good overpriced food. The worst part was it was so loud you couldn't hear youself think. Never went back. What I am kind of excited about though, they just opened a House of Blues here. A variety of live acts all the time. A restaurant, plus...

h, Sounds good. Do you ever have potato chowder? I was on a chowder kick last winter. Would just remove some of the soup, put it in a blender (or use an immersion blender, simpler & less cleanup), and put it back in. Basically just thickening with some of the soup instead of adding flour. I made potato chowder, chicken chowder, corn chowder, shrimp...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Foods That Taste Good
larry mac replied to allycatkrm's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Q: Do LUNA bars contain gluten? A: LUNA does contain gluten, the protein that gives bread dough its elasticity. Gluten is found in the rolled oats of the bar. Looks like they're referring to oat gluten, not wheat gluten. best regards, lm -

ARCHIVED Ttg Testing For Follow-up
larry mac replied to chrissy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm wondering if there is any consensus regarding this idea? I'm assuming a follow-up endoscopy with biopsys after one year gluten-free to check villi regrowth. But might this blood test for antibody levels be used for monitoring CC damage after that? Pros, cons? Anyone? best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Millet And Sorghum
larry mac replied to Tash-n-tail's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
m, I quickly found some info on adzuki beans via google. Sounds very promising. We in the south have a long history of eating black eyed peas (especially on new years eve for good luck in the new year). A little distinctive flavor. Can you eat tapioka starch flour? lm -
ARCHIVED Millet And Sorghum
larry mac replied to Tash-n-tail's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
M, First off, that bean thing was entirely unrelated to your post, an unfortunate little excursion for which I apologize (to you & everyone else). Back to you, sorry, but I must have missed something somewhere. I'm not up to speed on all of your intolerances. May I suggest you put them in your signature. That way everyone can more accurately... -
ARCHIVED Millet And Sorghum
larry mac replied to Tash-n-tail's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
dear k, Sorghum is a flour, used interchangably with rice flour. Some gluten-free cookbooks specify it for their recipes. It has good nutritional properties. Some don't like bean flours and I believe this would be a good substitute. On that note, I can no longer stand idly by and allow others to demean the bean. The poor berated bean. Garbanzo bean... -
ARCHIVED Millet And Sorghum
larry mac replied to Tash-n-tail's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
m, I've been using sorghum in equal parts with white & brown rice, then maybe some bean or other flours. For starchs it's usually equal parts Tapioka, potato, maybe some corn. So it might look like this: 2 C sorghum 2 C white 2 C brown 1 C bean and/or misc. 3 C tapioka 3 C potato 1 C corn Just an example of a half and half flour... -

ARCHIVED How Do You Handle Gluten Free Food
larry mac replied to darkr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
dr, #1: I think you answered your own question. "....So Ive been eating this Organic soup for the past few weeks... ARCHIVED My Son Has Given Up Breakfast
larry mac replied to missy'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have some ideas, they may not be good ones and I mean no disrespect. I could have it all wrong, but here goes. "...Ds is not on a gluten free diet but we eat alot of the same foods". That kind of sucks for him. Gluten-free food is mostly terrible. My wife has her own cereals, breads, crackers, cookies, etc. I even make her gluten stuff, get her normal... -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get Really Cold Feet And Hands?
larry mac replied to DonnaD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just in case anyone with cold hands & feet is smoking. I'm sure everyone knows that smoking inhibits circulation to the extremities. This has been well known and proven for a long time. Smoking is a serious mental sickness. I smoked for 31 years; quit 10 years ago. My wife still smokes, even though she has good reasons beyond the obvious, common...
