  1. Rachel & HF, Since I've joined this forum, you and others have started me thinking about some of these issues. I used to put aspertame in my coffee, now I don't. Simply put, I did some research and was convinced it just wasn't worth eating it with my celiac condition. Sure miss it though as I have to add too much sugar to equal it. So I thank you...
  2. Noel, That's just awful. I'm so sorry for your troubles. Sounds like you've had remarkable patience & perseverance given the circumstances. I sincerlely hope you find a better doctor, or follow some advise from the more knowledeable forum members here. best regards, lm
  3. Hey HF, Can I stray completely away from the topic of this post for a moment (how can you say no, it'll be too late)? Your avatar brings back memories of my long ago quasi-hippie days. 1969, I answered an ad for a '65 Voltswagon squareback (somewhat rare even then station wagon) from a German professor & his wife near the SMU campus here in Dallas...
  4. Rachel, HF, all, Responding to a post such as this is tricky as one almost feels like they are advocating the use of the product being discussed if they question some of the opinions expressed. I've only been dx for three months and in no way am an expert. Do I completely trust the FDA or industry sponsored studies? Of course not. Do I trust a doctor...
  5. HF, I'd like my carrots safe & free of e-coli. What do you think irradiation does? I'm not advocating it, but I haven't seen anything that suggest it's bad. best reagrds, lm
  6. d1, I have quite a few gluten-free books and one I highly recommend for the newly diagnosed (like me) is Living Gluten-Free for Dummies by Danna Korn. I realize it may sound like a joke but it's not. There's a ton of good information, inspiration, and of course recipes. Not just a cookbook! best regards, lm
  7. GS, Are you perusing each section seperately or all at once? best regards, lm
  8. Dear Julie, I wonder. Might one have an innate sense for "bad", even having never experienced "good"? best regards, lm p.s., BTW, what's a buttonburger?
  9. I can confirm Tree's claim. I'm looking at two boxes of Celestial Seasonings teas. Teahouse Chai (Original India Spice), and Rooibos (Moroccan Pomegranate Red). Both say gluten-free right on the bottom, ingredients are on the side. Also have a Bigelow Mint Medley. Doesn't say gluten-free, but has nothing remotely troublesome. best regards, lm
  10. Now this is getting interesting. Margaret, you sure are fun! lm
  11. Hi Margaret & Ashley, You, Margaret, are the only one that speaks French. I thought Ashleys signature was intriguing, did a quick google on it. Discovered the poet Paul Verlaine. Googled "translator", went to: Open Original Shared Link Translated her "Il pleure dans mon coeur" into ""It cries in my heart". Felt compelled to compose my own...
  12. Hi rg, Welcome to the forum, I just joined a couple months ago myself. Seems there's more & more of us every day. Pretty soon we'll have enough people to get a gluten-free voter registration drive going & get us somebody elected, maybe a gluten-free vice president or something. Yeah, then they'll pay us some attention & invent a decent gluten...
  13. acod, Gosh, that's just awful. I wish I could offer something more helpful than this "hope it get's better soon" message. I read your previous post regarding all you've been through. There's way more going on there than I know anything about. I saw immediate improvement, but didn't have any comparable symptoms to his. Keep up the good work. best...
  14. Hey Mr. RiceGuy, I don't want to hijack s66's salt post, but your magnesium suggestion led me to: Open Original Shared Link One thing that concerns me is that the Recommended Dietary Magnesium Allowance for an adult male is 420 mg/day, yet the Tolerable Upper Intake Levels for supplemental magnesium is only 350 mg/day. That indicates a very narrow...
  15. Some real old school. When I was growing up, only the priest drank from the chalice, no one else. Everone else got hosts only. Of course much of the mass was in Latin also. I would ride my bicycle to school early and help the priest say 6:30am mass for the nuns in the convent (I was an alter boy). best regards, lm
  16. w, Congratulations, they're sure cute when a puppy, but also a challenge! Have fun. best regards, lm
  17. Hey mg, The good 'ol artificial kind don't sound so good either. " .... The demand for vanilla flavoring has long exceeded the supply of vanilla beans. As of 2001, the annual demand for vanillin was 12,000 tons, but only 1800 tons of natural vanillin were produced. The remainder was produced by chemical synthesis. Vanillin was first synthesized from...
  18. Dear m, That is a very good suggestion. They have juice of course which is gluten-free I would suppose (although can one ever use that word again), but they usually have crackers, cookies, things such as that. So what would you bring? Maybe a muffin, some gluten-free poker chips? Fruit? Ashley, Giving blood is great. I always found it to be quite...
  19. Deb, Rode 300 miles one day. Problem is, I have a 30 mile seat. Not a good combination! Yes, Pheobe Buffay is a very good girl. best regards, lm
  20. Dear Betty, Pheobe Buffay says "woof"! best regards, lm
  21. G, I'm not claiming to be the expert, but it sounds pretty benign to me. Checked a few online sources also. It's more like a starch than a grain flour. It's a tuber root actually. A form of glucose sugar. Used as a thickener. "Comments: This is an unique hydrocolloid. Essentially the flour consists of fine oval whitish saces [100 to 500 microns in...
  22. Larry - love your avatar of the Schnauzer puppy. I have one at my house right now that looks just like that (born Dec 1)!

  23. Hey Kolka, Looks like I've got some baking to do. I really was just playing around with that "demean the bean" thing. Sometimes I have delusions of comedy. best regards, lm
  24. I'm going to try that freezing idea. And modified muffin recipe hamburger buns, heck yeah! thanks Angie, lm
  25. cj, " I have this baggie thing too! Do you recycle yours as well? Enough said. " LOL! Of course I recycle (at least the good ones). I turn 'em inside out so they can dry good. "Somewhere, someone mentioned making hamburger buns in empty tuna cans with both ends cut out. " I've tried that (ate a lot of tuna fish salad just to get the big...
