ARCHIVED I Need Help From Fellow Celiacs
larry mac replied to ilovechocolate's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Emily, Not that I know that much about it, but sounds like you may need your medication re-examined. Do you have a personal physician? By that I mean an MD you see regularly? You may have specialists you also see, but your regular doctor knows your history and (if he/she is good) can act as a second opinion. The downside is they will usually try to... -
ARCHIVED Macdonalds Fries
larry mac replied to aussiegirl17's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A328, Just curious why you say that? I'm looking at a package of Md's ketchup: ~ Tomato concentrate from red ripe tomatoes ~ Distilled vinegar ~ High fructose corn syrup ~ Water ~ salt ~ Natural flavors Where's the gluten? best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED A Word Of Warning Possibly
larry mac replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
AE, This is simply not true. They don't just scoop up some water from a springs and put it in a bottle. All drinking water is highly regulated. Bottled spring water simply has more natural minerals because it is not distilled (which you don't want to use for drinking anyway), nor is it a product of reverse osmosis which bottled drinking water is (thus... -

ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick White Sandwich Bread
larry mac replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't seen any of their products around here. Checked the website and your right , there are some unusuall ingredients in there. Only white rice flour (I've got to try that). Xanthan gum substitutes. Baking soda in addition to yeast. Bunch of other stuff. They're obviously on to something. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Soy Sauce..help!

ARCHIVED Calling All Gas Stove Users...question
larry mac replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
bem, That's great news. Can't be too carefull with gas. If you have a gas furnace, the same thing (yellow flames) is an indicator of incomplete combustion. Also, when you check it, do this. Have the heat off. Remove the cover allowing you to see the burners. While watching the burners, have someone else turn the heat on. When the gas supply goes to the... -
LL & tbD, I recommend attending the next monthly meeting of the Lone Star Celiac GIG (gluten intolerance group). It's on the 3rd Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital on Walnut Hill Ln in Dallas. www.dfwceliac.org I've been to two now and really like it. There is food that members bring (don't eat too much breakfast), cake, muffins, cookies, chex...

ARCHIVED Calling All Gas Stove Users...question
larry mac replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
bem, You might be getting incomplete combustion, which can cause carbon monoxide production. Also, it might discolor your pots & pans. Depends on how bad it is. Do you have natural gas or propane? Of course it goes without saying that since you probably have a gas furnace, you need a carbon monoxide detector in addition to a smoke detector (they... -
ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Beer?

c, No, it does not. I'm looking at a bottle this very moment and here's what it say's: REDBRIDGE Beer Made From Sorghum MADE WITHOUT WHEAT OR BARLEY Anheuser- Busch, inc. St. Louis, Missouri That is on the main front label and on the smaller band label at the top. On the side labels are the government warnings and visit us at www. redbridgebeer... -
ARCHIVED Dogs - Can They Have celiac disease?
larry mac replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A little off topic story. I kind of stretched the truth a little when I stated that our phoebe bufay doesn't fart. She doesn't (at least that we can tell- thank goodness), but she used to as a puppy and it was bad. Our vet, (think Sam Elliot) who is a no nonsense horse doctor type yet loves small animals, solved our problems. He asked if we fed her... -

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries
larry mac replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not trying to defend mcdonalds because personally, I've never been a Mcdonald fries lover anyway. They're OK, but I prefer others. However, my son worked there and they only fry fries in a dedicated fryer. The Mcdonalds in our Walmart is small and you can see all the cooking. They have very set procedures for everything. I don't have any concerns regarding... -
ARCHIVED Dogs - Can They Have celiac disease?
larry mac replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Every time I hear you guy's talking about feeding raw meat to your dogs, I can't help getting a picture of a zoo, and feeding lions & tigers. Sounds pretty extreme. Just doesn't seem right. These are centuries old domesticated house pets, not some wild animals. This ain't Africa. best regards, lm p.s., our miniature schnauzer doesn't fart, or have... -
ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free Beer?
larry mac replied to Cottage-Soul's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
cs, Redbridge is the only gluten-free beer I have had. To me, it is not light tasting. It is a little strong with some aftertaste. I prefer an extremely smooth beer, not highly carbonated like some "light" beers, with no aftertaste. No offense, but if your drinking Milwaukees Best Light, you must not be too picky anyway (ha ha). Gluten-free beer is... -

ARCHIVED Celebrex
larry mac replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
re: Viox, Bextra, & Clelbrex (and by way of rambling, SSRI's & Lexapro) While I don't really understand much of the chemistry, only enough to recognize some of the terminology, it is surprising how the ever so slight variation in the chemical formula can alter the effects. They are similar enough to keep them together and separated from the... -
ARCHIVED Dressings
larry mac replied to holdthegluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Could anyone volunteer what gluten ingredient might be in ice cream. I've looked at several regular brands such as blue bell vanilla bean and didn't see anything that looked like a cause for concern. Thank you. lm -

ARCHIVED Celebrex
larry mac replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
tb, I could easily be mistaken, but I am under the impression that the three COX-2 NSAID's we are discussing (Viox, Bextra, & Celebrex) need to be taken for a while to be effective. Maybe weeks before you might see some results, depending on what your taking them for of course. They are not like the regular NSAID's like ibuprofen or aspirin where you... -

ARCHIVED Celebrex
larry mac replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
tb, I'm surprised anyone's still taking this medication. Viox, Bextra, and Celebrex are prescription COX-2 selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). There are differences, yet they are linked to each other. Viox was withdrawn from the market and has numerous lawsuits against the manufacturer. I was taking Bextra for degenerative disc... -
I'm looking at a bag at the moment and here's the ingredients (listed by weight) Garbanzo bean flour, potato starch, tapioca starch, sorghum flour, and fava bean flour. That's it, just flours & starches, no xanthan gum, no salt. And no rice flour either. Two beans, two starches, and sorghum. Different & interesting. I haven't used it yet. best...
