  1. hit, A most unusual, yet interesting recipe. Must try soon as I get couple of glass bowls. Do you grease the bowls? best regards, lm
  2. Warning - This may be a little off topic, plus I tend to ramble somewhat (sorry). I'm not much of a salad eater, but lately I've been craving the fresh made Blue Cheese dressing from Central Market in Dallas. Of course there's absolutely no comparison with store bought. This stuff is to die for. Last weekend when I was there, I also got some French...
  3. UM, Well what do you know, you just taught me something. I wasn't aware of the addreply feature. I always just clicked on reply, then either right click, select all & delete, or edit the quote. Thanks bunches. best regards, lm
  4. Bm, This is a thread, and you started it. The topic is "don't know what a thread is". best regards, lm
  5. Hey all, Really dumb question. What do you make with rice paper? Egg rolls probably, but what else? Dumplings? Would you just substitute in a normal recipe, or are there special gluten-free recipes for these things. thanks, lm
  6. I can only testify to my McDonalds, but they have a dedicated fryer for the fries. I can verify this as my son worked there, I ask them about it when I get fries, and as it is a small McDonalds in Walmart, you can watch them cook everything. best regards, lm
  7. Hey hit, Thanks for the great idea. I was wondering what I was going to try for crust when I make my first gluten-free version of an old fav of mine; Aunt Geraldine's Buttermilk Pie. I have some cereal; Barbara's Bakery - Puffins Honey Rice. It's not bad, but surprisingly, I like it better as a snack than with milk. Anyway, it's really crispy, and...
  8. jmc, Just curious what that means. We've only been there a couple times, and that was BC, so I'm not recommending it or anything. The Outback by our house (Dallas area suburbs basically) seems to be packed all the time. best regards, lm
  9. J, it does have some useful info. I wasn't aware of the lightly toasting before grinding the various flours thing. And it mentions using lightly roasted dried yellow split peas as a substitute for chickpeas (garbanzo flour). Wierd coincidence, I was noticing them in the bulk bins at the health food stores just last weekend and wondered if one could use...
  10. Yes, this was previously posted, and I had a bad feeling about it then too. This list has some confusing information as relates to our Celiac disease. Even the title, Nonwheat Flours, is misleading. Yes these are technically not wheat, but many definately contain gluten. This is far from a gluten free flour guide. While maybe interesting for it's inclusion...
  11. Gee, not being a doctor or a dietician, I don't have any answers for you, only some general questions for this thread. Doesn't a diuretic make you eliminate excess water? It doesn't cause d (as a general rule) does it? Aren't diuretics prescribed for various ailments? It's just a type of medicine isn't it? Would it be bad necissarily if you needed to...
  12. MG37, Six weeks here. I'm making all my bread and assorted goodies. I haven't seen anything yet from my kitchen that resembles white bread. Everything save white rice flour has a darker color to it, and using only white rice flour is not a viable option for a variety of reasons. All my breads, muffins, etc. have ranged from yellow to brown. Others may...
  13. Hey all you bakers, Have you ever noticed that many blend recipes specify either twice as much flours to starches, or twice as much starches to flours? But very seldom are they equal. I have always found that to be very intriguing. Even more curious, this is common within the same cookbook! Anyone else notice that? Any ideas? best regards, lm
  14. They would be risking litigation if they did make such a claim. Most companies are not going to leave themselves open to that lind of liability. best regards, lm
  15. kb, I have decided that I will eat any blue cheese dressing that does not list wheat in the ingredients, and in fact have been doing so, without any appearent negative effects. Two factors helped me make this decision: ~ I googled "blue cheese" and spent several hours researching the way most blue cheese is produced using modern methods. I'm under the...
  16. jrf, Doesn't sound like too much testing to me. The capsule test was needed because of the negative biopsy, but I don't see anywhere in this thread that you've said what the results of the capsule endoscopy were. Have you received the results yet? If it was me, I wouldn't make any changes to my diet until I consulted my doctor. Once you go gluten-free...
  17. (quote edited for brevity-lm) CK, OMG, I hope she didn't read what I said. I feel really bad now. Now I'm better. Yes, you are correct in that if it was one of us, and we tried and then read some of the complaining, we'd be pretty unhappy. Actually, most of the problem was because of rosie, barbs, joey, and the rushed, brief nature of the segment. Elizabeth...
  18. MG, You know there's two kinds of family's; Hellmans, and Miracle Whip. Our household has both kinds. I'm the Hellmans. I don't believe in holding it against them, the way they were raised, they don't know any better! lm
  19. Linda, are you using white corn flour or regular yellow corn flour? Not too many gluten-free recipes call for corn flour and I was wondering why. Even cornbread recipes usually say gluten-free flours and corn meal, but not corn flour. thanks, lm
  20. That looks like a nice thing to have, and that model seems to be a great choice. By load, do you mean the size of the fill hopper on top? Wouldn't one still have to purchase some flours that you can't obtain for home grinding, or at least sourghum (which I just started using)? Since adding a variety of flours, I'm finding an improvement in taste, texture...
  21. Dear CK, I wasn't replying to your post. Its seems we both posted at exactly the same time and yours went on first. Sorry about that, I guess I didn't give them much "slack", did I? Bad timing on my part. best regards, lm
  22. It was a little haphazardly done. But that seems to be the nature of the show; they're all talking at the same time and nobody will shup up for 5 seconds (especially rosie). Topics seem to last about one minute and they're off to something else. I tivo'd it and replayed it numerous times to ensure the accuracy of the following. A few mismanaged moments...
  23. D, This celiac disease is definately NOT a good thing for hostages, especially if your blindfolded! And how would you ever figure out what's in the "gruel" they always get in those old prison movies? Oh guard, I'd like some gluten free gruel please. I had a recurring dream where I was being chased by people in a car trying to kill me. Then all of a sudden...
  24. KB, I've got to say, I was a little disappointed when I clicked on this topic. With a name such as "wacky cake", I expected some unusual ingredients. What's up with that? What's so wacky about this cake? best regards, lm
  25. Hey CB, what's a cube? lm
