  1. Welcome tatoooz, oops I mean tat000s. Does that mean you have tattoos on your toes? I eat any kind of yogurt, as long as it doesn't say wheat in the ingredients. Am trying to gain some weight back so get the most fattening I can find. The Mediterain brand is really good, made in Canada. 8.2% milk fat, 250 calories, almost like ice cream. Never tasted...
  2. OMG, that is breaking news!!!! Now they're focusing on WHEAT GLUTEN??? What took them so long? Hope it doesn't take another six days to find out for sure what it is. best regards, lm
  3. Welcome Jillian, CarlaB is right. I'm so glad I had all the right tests and got the definitive diagnosis before going gluten-free. It would really suck to purposely make myself sick in order to induce the intestinal damage needed for the celiac testing. Do it right, get it over with forever. best regards, lm
  4. Deb, Yeah, I should'nt be so surprised that some people don't know what's going on. My wife doesn't read the paper or watch the news (she watches reruns of SUV type crime shows). She listens to music in the car. So the only news she gets are brief items on the radio (which being southern country music stations are probably conservative leaning). I...
  5. n, re: floating stools My GI laughed when I mentioned "fat & floating stools". He said something about misinformation on the internet and needing to have the stool samples analyzed (which we did). I'm not the expert but have done some research (ironically on the internet). "One wrong idea is that floating stools are caused by an increase...
  6. cycler, Either you've been in a coma or yall get your news slow up there in New York. I posted this Friday night (5 days ago), when the recall was first announced. They knew about the contaminated wheat gluten then. best regards, lm
  7. c, Where do they sell these? lm
  8. I too use the Success Rice. The Thai Fragrant Jasmine variety 10 minute boil-in-bag. Hey, it's imported from Thailand. And if you look on the side at the bottom, it actually says gluten-free (for those that require their food products to be labeled gluten-free). Haven't had it stick to anything yet, cooks perfectly everytime. best regards, lm
  9. Cuervo, Sometimes a very simple, common question doesn't get very many responses. Having been here for a few months I think I know why. These discussions tend to repeat about every month or so, and your just out of the cycle, ie. we just had a big one on oats a while back. You can, however, find 12500 posts on oats (all of the discussions) in a matter...
  10. Hi Lollie, Three months here. We don't eat out at restaurants often anyway, but lately I've been getting the urge to. I'm guessing it may have to do with completely eliminating fast food, pizza, donuts, etc. and changing my diet so much at home. Had my first meal out last week and OMG it was good. One of my BC favs, Cowboy Chicken's special enchiladas...
  11. I don't measure any gluten-free bread in days, but rather hours. Unless freezing. That seems to be the (partial) solution. lm
  12. When it comes to ingredients, I'm a madman. My general cooking philosophy is, more ingredients add flavors, create complex layers, yet average out mistakes. You got that right deb, starches are strange. I just fluff up the starch with a spoon, gently shake it into a measuring cup, and level with a knife. The stuff sticks to everything, why I'll...
  13. og, You can not call these Coconot's. Just kidding, you can call them anything you want. Macaroons are great 'cause there's not much flour in them anyway. Thanks, lm
  14. d, I'm sorry to say I haven't done nearly as much variety baking as I should have. Have not made a single cake or pie. The first flour blend recipe I saw called for an equal ratio of flours to starches, and that's pretty much what I've stuck with. However, I do use quite a variety of ingredients. I'm very satisfied with my muffins. I think I've got...
  15. tbs, Yesterday we had a family birthday party at a relatives house, the first time I have been in that situation since being gluten-free. The other times were at our house and so I knew exactly what was what. And as we were waiting for the hamburgers and hotdogs to cook, we were munching on a variety of chips. At first I only ate the cheetos, but a few...
  16. Deb, I too am glad you posted this. Hadn't thought about it until now, but this somehow turned into my signature cake. My two daughters always request it for their birthdays and special occasions. Of course I just used the recipe on a box of pineapple cake mix. I prefer pineapple tidbits instead of rings though, much easier to cut and you can control your...
  17. ST, Your so right. I was just at the grocery store and saw a San-J Tamari Soy Sauce that had wheat listed. In fact, not one soy sauce or terriaki product at Albertsons was wheat free. And they had a huge selection. Ya gotta be real careful. best regards, lm
  18. gfp, From the news release linked earlier in this thread: "According to Dr. Steven Taylor, Food Allergy Research and Resource Program, University of Nebraska, McDonald's Fries are gluten free and allergen free." I don't see how Dr. Taylor could make that claim if the results were reportable as between 2 and 20 ppm. Do you have a link to a different...
  19. Dear k, Fantastic! I dropped the ball a little as I haven't had the chance to bake much this week. Thank you, thank you! I need some bread bad (not some bad bread!). best regards, lm
  20. May I suggest Eden Organic Tamari Soy Sauce, it's quite tasty! I've always been pretty particular about soy sauce, Kikkomans my brand (ex). The few unfortunate times I got cheap and tried something such as Kroger brand, I quickly returned it for a refund. Is the Edens gluten-free? You tell me. Here's the ingredients: ~ water ~ organic soybeans ...
  21. hm, Your son got very ill after eating their fries one time. That is a fact and no amount of discussion is ever going to change your feelings about that. I've never considered McDonalds fries all that great unlike many who just rave about how they are the best. I always preferred the other fast food places fries, such as Jack in the Box, Wendys, Popeyes...
  22. UM, With all due respect I didn't misinterpet anything. I know very well they put the wheat gluten in there on purpose. And no, our dry food does not contain any wheat gluten, animal by products or cereal. We're pretty picky about it actually. It is a Petsmart product though, Authority brand. best regards, lm
  23. OK HF, now you've gone too far. Badmouthing fruit by the foot. BTW, what is fruit by the foot? best regards, lm
  24. This story on our local tv news station at 10:00pm got our attention when it mentioned Petsmart dog food. We use the dry food however. =============================================================== Associated Press WASHINGTON
  25. HappyGirl has an excellent point. The liquid used to make me ill at my stomach the couple times I tried taking it (this was before I ever heard of celiac), but the tablets never did. I can't find the box and the ingredients aren't listed on the bottle of Equate brand liquid I have. But I'm pretty sure we've covered this topic before and it has gluten. ...
