  1. ff, I don't know, here's the link. Open Original Shared Link best regards, lm
  2. This news item was in my support group newsletter. " Community Foods Ltd is recalling a batch of Nature
  3. k, You are to be commended. I salute you! best regards, lm
  4. I've posted numerous times about how much I like Frito Lay. But this is ridiculous. I didn't mind having to register for the contest, making up a user name, and a secret answer, giving my name, address, email address, even though this most certainly will translate to more junk mail, real & computer. But it wouldn't proceed with out a telephone number...
  5. zk, It's a new little place at Independence & Parker called Ricky Rays BBQ. Found out the SP fries are bought frozen (still good though). I'd rather not post a review of the restaurant here. I'll send you a pm. best regards, lm
  6. um, The number and variety of intolerances, allergies, and health issues represented on the forum is just mind-boggling. Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid, so I guess that's out for you. We haven't taken aspirin for at least a decade anyway. Ibuprofen and Acetaminifin have replaced it (at least for us). I used to occasionally take a BC powder (also...
  7. dear judy, So that's what those post icons are for! Your the first I've noticed using them. Your a pioneer woman! I must love the forum very much, as I'm on here morning, noon, and night. One could say I must be obsessed with it. lol best regards, lm p.s., Phoebe Buffay does the same thing your cat's doing when she wants her tummy kissed....
  8. Dear Judy, How'd ya get that heart up there? best regards, lm
  9. gfp, Quite true on all points made. It is the little bits of food that spoil the flavor & taste. They're not trying to remove the gluten. They don't really give a hoot one way or another about the gluten (except to play the PR and CYA game). They only care about keeping the oil relatively clean to maximize the life of it and thereby maximize profits...
  10. Hey grump 1, I actually do sometimes use buttermilk for cooking. But no, it's not the same as a good sourdough. I take it your not a sourdough bread lover. I go way back. Before the time when you could get a loaf of California Sourdough in just about any grocery store. Used to be you had to go out of your way to get it, if you could get it at all. They...
  11. Dear Judy, What's up with using all upper case? best regards, lm
  12. Nicole, I agree with the others and would recommend the caplets. There's been some questions concerning the liquid. Before I was diagnosed, I established that the liquid made my stomach hurt, but not the pills. After I read about the controversy I said "AHA very interesting, what a coincidence!". best regards, lm
  13. tb, I'm hesitant to offer medical advise now that he's already taken something and is in pain. If we were talking about me it would be different. I think I would want to eat something to help get rid of the Pepto Bismol and orange. Milk ?, gluten-free bread ? I would probably take some rolaids (but I don't have any to read the ingredients to check for...
  14. tb, Pepto-Bismol always made my stomach hurt, even when I was a little kid. I would recommend Tums or something similar. May sound like a dumb question, but why did he eat an orange if he's never been able to eat oranges? best regards, lm
  15. Don Julio is good, I was given a bottle of the repasado for my birthday (can't bring myself to pay $40-$50+ for a bottle of anything). I've aquired most of the really good stuff as presents. I discovered "real" tequila about 10 years ago while making numerous working trips to Mexico. The 100% agave tequila was still mostly undiscovered by the general...
  16. Missy, Realizing everyone is different, I can only say that for me there has really been no problem with prescription medicines that I can tell. Pre-celiac, post-celiac all the same medicine wise. And I was diagnosed with severely damaged villa via biopsy. Don't quite understand, you were diagnosed celiac four years ago but only recently went gluten...
  17. Kat, And the best part is, they have a very nice selection of 100% agave tequilas! I'm a big tequila lover. It's actually more than a taco place. I was surprised how big it is inside. But I understand they expanded a while back. I talked to the manager at the new Asados (between Wyle and Sachse), and he assured me they use corn tortillas also for their...
  18. Interesting article in the Dallas Morning News today. Hives are being lost due to bees not returning for some mysterious reason. This could have dire consequences for fruit and vegetable growers. This part piqued my interest: In 1997, Dr. Pankiw said, large numbers of bee colonies were lost because beekeepers fed them a type of high-fructose corn...
  19. Just discovered a variety of fresh sourdough starters very reasonably priced ($7-$10 w/ free shipping). If starting with a volume of one ounce, immediately adding one cup gluten-free flour & one cup water/milk, then replacing one cup every few days, how long till completely wheat free (ie. safe for celiacs)? best regards, lm ---------------...
  20. Hey Donna, I have visited Delicious-N-Fit in Plano on two Saturday afternoons for blue cheese hamburgers. It was so satisfying to be able to bite into a real burger on a real bun (albiet a somewhat unorthodox one) that someone else cooked. It is a small unassuming place with a surprisingly ambitious menu. They also have a separate room stocked with...
  21. zk, That is very, very interesting. We definitely need to know more about this filtering machine. Obviously, that would probably negate the whole dedicated fryer concept now wouldn't it? They would also need to claim it removes all traces of gluten? Although, if it removes odors and tastes (these are molecules after all), could it remove gluten molecules...
  22. My dear Fiddle-Faddle, Very interesting recipe. No flour, only starch. And three tsp zanthan gum per a scant 1
  23. G, I've looked through all my gluten-free cookbooks and none specify. I haven't tried to make any so can't really say. I will hazard a guess. Perhaps a pizza dough recipe would work. RG, You are correct sir, corn tortillas are the traditional Mexican kind. In the last couple decades however, flour tortillas have far surpassed corn as the preferred...
  24. As I'm always recommending the Eden Organic Tamari Soy Sauce, I decided to pick up the La Choy Soy Sauce and the San-J Organic Tamari Soy Sauce for a little taste-off. Battle of the gluten-free soy sauces. First off, the La Choy is much cheaper than the others. About $1.50 compared to about $3.5 for the San-J and $4 for the Eden. Depending on stores of...
  25. nbc, Very limited day time hours I should have said. They are only open at night and every time we have been near one it has been daytime. best regards, lm
