rwg, I don't have a problem with dairy, but could those that do be helped by taking the lactose tablets? best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Hamburger Helper Mix?
larry mac replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
mt, I'm looking at a box of Cheesy Jambalya, and the noodle (pasta) ingredients are not with the mix ingredients. They are separated with parenthesis. I.e., when listing ingredients, it's common practice to use parenthesis when an item (in this case "pasta") contains more than one ingredient. In this case: INGREDIENTS: Enriched Pasta (wheat flour... -

Suzie, Please let me make a suggestion. Broaden your information base a little. There are many cooking websites available to anyone and everyone. One of my favs is allrecipes.com. Took me about 5 seconds to go from your question to this: Open Original Shared Link Yes, that's right, 240 recipes for tomato soup! Any kind you like. The recipes are posted... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Making Carol Fenster's Recipe For (m)...
larry mac replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
ca, I ordered 10 lb of sorghum flour (four 2.5 lb containers) from www.twinvalleymills.com. Was kind of funny story, definately different. Made me a satisfied customer. I've only used it as part of a multi-flour/starch blend, not as sorghum flour only/starch blend. I take it you made the Bette Hagman bread recipe. Did you follow the recipe exactly?... -
ARCHIVED Ibs And Bacteria Overgrowth

After my first visit with my new GI, he ordered blood, urine, & stool samples to find out what was wrong with me (and causing my chronic diarrhea). I then started taking XIFAXAN -
ARCHIVED How Do You Guys Do It?
larry mac replied to Guhlia's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Angie, When my two daughters were little, I worked a regular job and my wife was self employed (she had her own business with a partner). She too was going crazy taking the girls to the office with her. It took a lot of convincing to finally get her to take the kids to day care a couple times a week. That really helped - a lot! The key, I think, is... -
ARCHIVED Sourdough Starter
larry mac replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
tbswt, I've been using sourdough (or if one prefers "friendship") starters on & off for more than 25 years. Only recently gluten-free of course. There is no recipe per se. A starter is just flour & liquid. The exact amounts are not important, it's approximately half & half. There's no measuring really. Just throw a cup or two of gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Newbie-43 With Osteoporosis
larry mac replied to Suzysliw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
UM, Your a very nice person, I'm sorry I insulted you. Of course you and HF may have some valid points. My post was simply meant to be a tongue-in-cheek response to HF's rather radical preachings. Again, my sincerest apologies to you and HF. lm -
ARCHIVED Newbie-43 With Osteoporosis
larry mac replied to Suzysliw's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Boy, I'm glad my mother didn't breast feed me. To think I could've been poisoned. The american diet, the food pyramid, the dairy industry, the FDA, and American medicine? My my, that's a pretty big conspiracy! Sorry, but margaritas aren't near as much fun without nachos. -
ARCHIVED Sourdough/levain/kefir Fermented Bread Help?
larry mac replied to sarah ruth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
sr, I put some sourdough starter in everything I bake. Before you get too excited though, know that it's only for extra flavoring, akin to using buttermilk, ie., not for leavening. I feed it rice flour & water, or for a special treat, potato flakes & milk. Must use often or it will die. best regards, lm -

ARCHIVED Do I Really Need Potato Starch?
larry mac replied to boho*mama's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
bhm, I'd just use all tapioka starch flour. See how that does. Try to make a trip to an Asian grocery store. White rice flour, potato starch flour, and tapioka starch flour are dirt cheap there. Yes, it's quite an adventure in third world culture, but I love different stuff like that. Gonna be a long time before I run out of those items. Also got some... -

ARCHIVED This Is My First Post! Looking For Advice
larry mac replied to GraceE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Grace, Many similarities to my experience. My advice: Go back to 5mg Lexipro. Try to take it every day at about the same time. I doubt it has anything to do with your intestinal problems. Try to find your own gastroenterologist. Your doctor will refer you to a doctor in his business group. They may or may not be worth a flip. I went that route,... -
ARCHIVED I Just Made The Best Corn Muffins!

ARCHIVED Help! What Did I Do Wrong?
larry mac replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
rg, I may be way off base, and I apologize to anyone if I am, but in my brief experience with all things gluten-free, gluten-free recipes are, generally speaking, not rocket science. They quite often leave much to be desired. I think they tend to be hit & miss. Some don't make any sense at all. In my opinion, if a recipe say's 2 cups of (unspecified... -
ARCHIVED Meats And Cheese
larry mac replied to Chancer7's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
C7, Darn that's a good question. I never thought about it really, although I rarely buy deli stuff. Usually I get packaged meats and cheeses. If it doesn't say "wheat" or "malt" on the package, I don't worry about it (hasn't happened yet). That's just me though, some people have reactions from sulfites, sulfates, etc. I guess I'm just lucky, 'cause those... -

ARCHIVED Help! What Did I Do Wrong?
larry mac replied to wowzer's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wendy, I'm no expert, but I quickly found that to avoid thin, overly spreading cookies, I needed to add more flour (or less water), and put the dough in the fridge before and between batches. I almost always have to make wet/dry adjustments to recipes. Gluten-free baking is much trickier than regular baking IMHO. Ya got that right! best... -
ARCHIVED Mcdonalds Fries Not Gluten Free
larry mac replied to pnltbox27's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'll bet if McDonalds had a separate room for the french fry fryer, used pure oil with no additives, and had a special employee that did nothing but cut up real potatoes and fry them right in front of your eyes, some celiacs (and others with food intolerances) would still claim the fries made them sick. There's an infinite variety of scenarios, real and imagined... -
ARCHIVED Help... Fibro... Ra... Better With Gluten Free?
larry mac replied to shanbr's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
s, I'm assuming your doctor is not a gastroenterologist, sounds like you need one. You can imagine, that if all gastroenterologists are not even knowlegeable about celiac disease, regular doctors (general practitioners, md's) and specialists in other areas, are even less likely to know much about it. What kind of celiac test did you want? Since you... -
