  1. Sorry, I don't quite get what one would take Benadryl for, in relation to Celiac. Benadryl is usually for cold like symptons, or nasal type allergies. Celiac symptoms are more commonly gastrointestinal in nature. best regards, lm
  2. Sometimes, in a misguided bout of false hope, I'll read some cereal box ingredients at the grocery store. You know the drill. Corn, good. Rice, good. Everythings looking OK until towards the end. Then there it is, wheat starch. Or malt flavoring, or simply wheat. You know since it's at the end, and based on weight, it's got to be a miniscule amount. Surely...
  3. I've found it's easy to find a couple of nice potato vodkas around 13-$14 at big stores such as Goody Goodies in Dallas (the best prices in town). Presently, I have a Vikingfjord, from Norway, made with pure glacial water, in a cool bottle. You may have to look at quite a few bottles to find them. Mostly, I drink Tequilas, which have no gluten of course...
  4. Our Walmart doesn't carry it, although they stock a lot of other brands I've never heard of. Best I remember, I've eaten it my whole life. Albertsons and Brookshires carry it for sure. I'd be willing to bet Kroger and Tom Thumb do also. I've made quite an effort to read ingredient labels on syrups, and as far as I know Griffin's ORIGINAL is the only one...
  5. I bought a tortilla press/cooker. My first attempt using my regular gluten-free flour mix was extremely dissapointing. I ate them, but they were hard and tasteless. Need to try different gluten-free blends. I'm with you, I like corn, but get tired of it and miss the flour tortillas. Still serve the flour ones to my wife though. best regards, lm
  6. That's great. I had the same problem, but it only took a few day's of being gluten-free and I was sleeping like a baby. best regards, lm
  7. Aunt Jamima makes pancake mixes and other products that contain wheat flour. There's no flour in syrup. I never cared much for real maple syrup, it's too thin, gets yucky easily, and is expensive, a moot point now that there are far fewer opportunities to even use syrup. I recommend Griffin's Original Syrup, it's the only syrup I've ever found that does...
  8. No. I prefer Ruffles however. Ruffles are made with thicker slices of potatos. That's why they are more expensive and are hardly ever on sale. Also eat Fritos, Cheetos, & Munchos, without regard to manufacturing plant location. best regards, lm
  9. Thank you mg, ja, & ngg, Yes ngg, I am alright. However, I have a metal plate and screws holding the bones together in my left arm, a banged up left knee, and assorted bruises and boo boo's. I have absolutely no memory of the accident, I woke up in the ambulance. Funny thing though, the responding officers say I was awake the whole time. Guess I was...
  10. Happy belated birthday Deb, You were my very first gluten-free friend. Sorry so late , but I was in the hospital on the 24th (my bd also) from a motorcycle accident. best regards, lm
  11. Hey Girl, Hope you had a wonderful day today on your birthday. yours truly, lm
  12. You can order two cookbooks from amazon .com for about $25 with free shipping. Thats pretty reasonable, they discount everything. I'd recommend: Living Gluten Free for Dummies, by Danna Korn. Not so much the best cookbook, but very good for beginning Celiacs. Packed with all kinds of useful information, inspirational, amusing, and comprehensive. Highly...
  13. I recommend a google search for "fatty stool". It's informative. My GI say's you have to get a stool sample analysed to determine that. Floating means there's extra gas, not fecal fat. best regards, lm
  14. I don't know as I haven't handled wheat dough. But I handle wheat bread and wheat flour tortillas when I prepare meals for my wife. I don't go to extreme measures and haven't had a problem - so far anyway. I touch it with my bare hands then just give a quick rinse and wipe with a paper towel. No big deal. I just have regular celiac. No DH, never had any...
  15. Now they do. At least they think so. When they combine melamine, with cyanuric acid, they get instant crystal formations. Exactly like the kidney stones found in the dead cats and dogs. Of course, the melamine was deliberately added to the Chinese pet food. The cyanuric acid source has not been determined to be deliberate or inadvertent, as in a byproduct...
  16. First off there's food! Gluten-free bread, muffins, cookies, that members bake and bring. Then there are usually gluten-free products that are samples I guess. Ours has 2 book people that keep a supply of assorted gluten-free books for sale at reduced prices. There's usually about 20-25 people at ours and we meet in a hospital conference room (there are...
  17. dfg, Appearently anything is possible. As I understand it, many times the biopsies of the small intestine can miss the damaged areas. The damaged villi can be at the beginning of the small intestine, farther down, or at various places. They say there are thousands of symptoms, and none are common for everyone. At my last support group meeting,...
  18. nm, That may or may not be true. But let's not let it distract from the facts of the case. The Chinese companies were deliberately putting poison (melamine, an organic base usually found in plastics and resins) in the wheat gluten as a cheap way to cheat the protein analysis tests. They were initialy uncooperative and denied everything, but have since...
  19. Dear Kim, As you can see from the responses, forum members love to help out with advise. But we don't have much to go on here. What a mystery! Starting with the fact that this is after all Celiac.com , I think we can safely assume you have celiac disease or wheat allergies. But that's no reason to restrict your candy/chocolate or candy bar consumption...
  20. h16, Looks about as perfect as your gonna find. Most excellent forum contribution. Thanks. $12 per 100 + $6.95 shipping to anytown USA = 19
  21. Hey Carol, Good lookin wolf pup! best regards, lm
  22. Here in Texas, you must have a new prescription every year to buy new eyeglasses or contact lenses. Not only that, I wanted to purchase a different brand of contact for my son (he had colored lenses and we wanted to go to clear). Well, the "store" (they make a phony attempt to physically separate the vision place from the main store by a door, as it's required...
  23. gfp, Yes, the FDA is crooked as can be. They just passed new rules limiting some of the permissable "consultant" fees and other "kickbacks in disquise" that occurs. Not sure when they go into effect or if it got final approval or whatnot. And of course the guy probably has lots of valid points and even may be correct in some of his health claims. But...
  24. bb, Welcome. Don't forget the search feature. It's at the top of the page and works kind of funny. Just click on the box and replace the words "tomato sauce" with your search word/words. best regards, lm
  25. You have to make some pretty alarming statements if you want people to order one of your books "Grocery Warning", for only $89. And, Mike Adams, Health Ranger, has lots of others to sell also. Five minutes of reading his ludicrous claims tell me he's an internet health version of televangelists. Preying on those unfortunate ones gullible enough to fall...
