  1. I am very glad that the PillCam is finally getting press! I was diagnosed via PillCam back when it was new. My bloodwork and endoscopic biopsy were both negative so I was very thankful that my doctor wanted to try it. We're both computer nerds so it was more 'wow this is cool' but it turned out to be so much more than that. I don't think most people...
  2. I agree with Miss Ursa on the fresh fruit, vegetables and meat. That's mostly what I eat and my grocery bill is considerably less than it was before I went gluten-free because I no longer fill the cart up with expensive convenience foods. But if you need gluten-free foods my favorite grocery store in world happens to be in San Diego - Jimbo's! I lived...
  3. I also get nauseated and find that taking my vitamins at bedtime alleviates the nausea.
  4. I really like the Kirkman Labs - Perry Prenatal and it's $12 for a 3 month supply. I don't need a pre-natal but this is one of the most rounded GFCFSF multi-vitamins that I could find and it has a good amount of folic acid. Open Original Shared Link
  5. You definitely need to get a second (and third) opinion from a reputable dental surgeon and also a peridontist (gum specialist). It sounds like you have some serious issues that need addressing. The fact that you need root scaling suggests that you have some gum disease going on and may need implants because your roots are unstable. If that is the case...
  6. LOL I'm answering my own question. Here is the response I received from Bob's: Thank you for your email and for your interest in Bob
  7. Does anyone know if the Unsweetened Medium Shredded Coconut from Bob's Red Mill is gluten-free? It's not on their gluten-free list and that concerns me. The allergen statement says manf in a facility that uses tree nuts and soy...
  8. Google kashering a kitchen and you might find some useful information on how to clean some of the items. I replaced my wood utinsels but have butcher block countertops so it wasn't really an option to replace those. I followed the process for kashering wood and haven't had any problems. For wood, you basically pour boiling water over the entire piece...
  9. I couldn't agree with you more! I am heading back to China later this month and can't wait!
  10. I am a quasi-vegetarian celiac (no chicken, pork, beef, etc.) and intolerant to soy, dairy and most nuts. I eat a lot fresh green vegetables which are good sources of calcium and iron. Blackstrap Molasses is a wonderful way to get iron and calcium and cooking in cast iron pans also adds iron to your diet. I also take a prescription iron supplement (I...
  11. I replaced the wood, plastic, melamine and teflon (non-stick) stuff. I kept the china, copper, porcelain, pyrex, glass and stainless stuff.
  12. Not sure about the other tests but here is the skinny on the iron tests. There are 4 tests: (1) a CBC to check your hemoglobin and hematocrit. (2) Ferritin (iron stores); (3) Iron study that checks your total iron, % saturation, and total iron binding capacity or TIBC; (4) Folic Acid Test. Hemoglobin is a protien that carries oxygen through the body...
  13. I'd get your iron stores (not just hemoglobin) and other vitamin levels checked again to see where they are now. If your iron is that low you can't rebuild it with diet alone and even with supplementation it can take months before your iron stores are replenished sufficiently. Here's a good article: Open Original Shared Link I'm shocked that a doctor...
  14. I'm pretty paranoid and I wouldn't hesitate to use one that was properly cleaned. There isn't anything left on the skillet when you run it through the self-clean cycle. If you're concerned about it I'd run it through once, scrub it down with soap and steel wool and run it through again.
  15. I can't tell if you are taking an iron supplement but if your iron is that low you should be on a good prescription formula. It'll likely take 6-12 months to get your iron levels back to normal. B12 will also help with your energy levels. I give myself injections twice a week but a lot of people take supplements. I also really love the Blueberry B...
  16. Soy causes inflammation in my body and stiffens me up nicely. Dairy has about the same effect. Gluten gives me the RA-type burning joint pain. I can feel the effects of any form of soy(soybean oil, letichens, etc.). Unfortunately, I think you should consider cutting out both. My husband didn't care about eliminating soy and doesn't eat a lot of dairy...
  17. Trader Joe's makes a really good gluten-free Ryeless Rye (especially when it's toasted).
  18. I used Spectrum Safflower Oil. I'm not sure where I found this but this is the method that produced the best results. I tried the stove-top method and couldn't get the right patina. How To Oven Season A Carbon-Steel Wok 1. First, stove-season the wok per the instructions, concentrating on the bottom. Trying to heat the sides over an electric range...
  19. I would bet if you baked it at 500 degrees for about 2-3 hours that would have the same effect as the self-clean cycle. Love the kiln idea too! I love ceramics and would like to take it up again now that I can use my hands again! I'd read that you could remove the seasoning by putting the pan in a hot fire so I would think the kiln would do the same...
  20. I have a large collection of antique cast iron and am quite attached to it so it was never an option to get rid of it. I bought new Lodge ProLogic and use the antique stuff for decoration now. If cleaned and reseasoned properly I would not hesitate to use it. I always clean and reseason the stuff I inherit or the new stuff I buy (even the pre-seasoned...
  21. We've owned Labs for many years including a few with very severe skin allergies. We live on a farm and they love helping out around the house and that's awesome except they live in the house! We've tried all of the dog shampoos (including Epi-Smooth) and the best ones for our dogs are the people shampoos that we use - Pantene 2 in 1 and Garnier Fruticis...
  22. I feel your frustration. I have celiac genes on both sides of my family and am the only diagnosed celiac so far. I have aunts, uncles and cousins who've been diagnosed with diabetes, fibromyalgia, intestinal lymphoma, autism, colon cancer, esohageal cancer, pernicious anemia, anxiety, depression and multiple sclerosis. My mother has been severly anemic...
  23. I'm looking for a well-rounded gluten, dairy and soy-free multi-vitamin without iodine (I can take or leave iron too) that doesn't require taking 27 pills a day. I'm good for a max of 2 pills and would really prefer 1 pill. Any suggestions?
  24. Eating at others houses is the most difficult because you have an emotional attachment to the people you're visiting with and saying NO is so much harder (at least for me). But I always say NO if there is any doubt. Better safe than sorry. I totally sympathize with you. We have a group of friends who really believe they understand gluten-free cooking...
