  1. A small trace of dairy makes me extremely slow (mentally and physically) for a few days. I have quite a few issues with dairy but would not really say any of them are digestive. The lack of mental clarity thing, or lack thereof, drives me crazy and is one of my biggest complaints.
  2. Try doing some exercises that open your hips and strengthen your lower back and abdominal muscles. It was only after I went gluten-free that I realized that all those years of slouching from the stomach pain had really weakened those muscles. My legs are much less fatigued when I stretch out those muscles every few days.
  3. I am a big fan of the Perry Prenatal from Kirkman Labs. They are small and don't upset my stomach. Open Original Shared Link
  4. I think it would be important to inquire about the source of autolyzed yeast. For example, I am pretty sure that Vegemite contains autolyzed yeast that is made from brewer's yeast and is not considered gluten-free. While I don't know that autolyzed yeast is technically MSG it certainly behaves like it and can cause issues for those who are sensitive to...
  5. It's really hit or miss. Sometimes they have the meal but don't have my name or seat number. Other times they just don't have it. Rarely do they have the meal and know who it belongs to without asking... It really doesn't seem to matter which airline - I get a gluten-free meal about 1 out of 3 trips. The quality varies greatly depending on the originating...
  6. As a general rule in the US you can take any food on board that is solid. So a sealed jar a salsa is a no no but a jar of processed peanut butter should be OK (I would no take the natural kind that sperates because it's not worth the hassle). As a general rule for international travel you can not take any organic matter such as meat, cheese, fruits...
  7. I took the Viking Cruise of the Danube last fall and didn't have any issues with getting gluten-free food there. Most of the dishes were gluten-free anyway but when appropriate the chef would adapt the meal for me (including making soup) and the staff was quite understanding of the issue. One note though, most dishes contained some form of dairy or meat...
  8. Namaste and Cause You're Special (made with cf margarine) are good CF brands.
  9. Dairy and soy contamination are just as bad and painful as a gluten reaction for me so it is really a personal choice. Dairy and soy can contaminate equipment much in the same way as gluten and can affect those who are highly sensative. There are several gluten-free products that I can not tolerate because they are made on the same lines as dairy or soy...
  10. Small world! I am in Cartersville. PM me and we can chat.
  11. I personally wouldn't use something with that label. Traces of casein affect me just as much as traces of gluten so I am just as careful with dairy contamination.
  12. I think I am the only person on the planet that doesn't like Larabars. For long rides I take along a few individually wrapped Jennie's Coconut Macaroons. (Nutrifacts: Cal-270, Fat-14g, Chol-0mg, Carb-34g, Sugars-29g, Pro-2g, Sodium-20mg, Fiber-5g) I saw another bar at costco the other day called Mrs. May's Trio that I want to try. I was going to look...
  13. I think all of the B Vitamins are very important and it never hurts to have a little extra. I also give myself B 12, complex and folic acid injections and can tell when I skip one. Odwalla makes a great fruit smoothie product called Blueberry-B Monster that is very high is B Vitamins. It's a staple in our house - expensive at $8 for about 1/2 gallon...
  14. I used to have a nasty little addiction to L'Occitane but have never gotten a respectable response from them (if I get one at all) so I've stopped buying most of their stuff. The only product I've been able to use succefully is the Olive Oil Face Lotion SPF 15 since going gluten-free. L'Occitane also changes their ingredients and product line frequently...
  15. I had pretty severe fibro and RA pain for years that went away when I elimated dairy & gluten. I got a few shots of methotrexate at the same time I went gluten-free and that really helped whack some of the inflammation. I now notice that I get a little stiff when I am exposed to small amounts of dairy (as in CC). Ibuprofen seems to make it worse...
  16. I have been in Shanghai for a few weeks now. We are staying in an apartment in Pudong so we are doing most of our own cooking. There is a chain of specialty grocery stores called City Shop (Open Original Shared Link) that have an awesome selection of fresh fish, produce and other imported foods. The one I visit is in the Citigroup building in Pudong....
  17. My understanding is that having B Vitamin deficiencies (B-12, B-Complex, etc.) can actually make candidia worse so I would not remove it from my diet. I've suffered from anemia most of life and am quite the expert there but don't know much about candida so maybe someone else can give you suggestions. I am a big fan of Chromagen (www.chromageniron.com)
  18. Here are the ingredients for the passover verson of Mother's margarine: INGREDIENTS:PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL, WATER,VEGETABLES MONO & DIGLYCERIDES, POTASSIUM SORBATE (A PRESERVATIVE), ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, CTRIC ACID, VITAMIN A PALMITATE ADDED ANNATTO (COLOR) NO MILK PRODUCTS. It says gluten and dairy-free on the package. Corn and soy...
  19. I am a big fan of Banana Boat Sport
  20. I don't tolerate Smart Squeeze for some reason. It's supposed to be GFCFSF so I likely have issues with other ingredients. The only other GFDFSF margarine option I've found is the Passover version of Mother's margarine. It's only manufactured without soy for passover so now is the time to stock up. You may be able to find it at a local kosher grocery...
  21. Perhaps he is confusing gluten and corn and was saying to avoid powdered sugar since it is often mixed with cornstarch? That's my best guess for a silly doctor.
  22. Namaste makes a product called Say Cheez. It uses hemp and is my favorite with Road's End Cheddar Chreese being second. The Namaste mix is very hard to find though so you might have to order online.

    ARCHIVED Moe's

I've exchanged several emails with Moe's and am not sure the company really understand the whole gluten-free thing yet. For example, the allergy chart says that corn chips are gluten free but Moe's only has one fryer so the chips are fried in the same fryer as the fried tortilla shells...
  24. Chromagen is the only iron supplement I can tolerate. It requires a prescription but is good stuff. Open Original Shared Link
