  1. There are several kinds of responses and my understanding is that the skin pricks are testing for a specific immediate response (IgE). I seem to remember my allergist explaining that the skin tests wouldn't help with delayed reactions (IgG). I think there are some blood tests you can get for IgG alleriges - maybe someone will chime in with more info on...
  2. I live in the south and buy all of my dried beans at Ingles. Their store brand is Laura Lynn and they have a pretty good gluten-free list. I've emailed them a few times with questions and usually receive a response from their R.D. and would say they take nutrition more seriously than some of the larger chains. Open Original Shared Link (You can find...
  3. I don't use a lot of prepared stuff because I am soy and dairy free but here's what I like: -Bread - Trader Joe's gluten-free Ryeless Rye (toasted) -Bread (mix) - Chebe -Cake Mix - Cause Your Special Moist Lemon Cake Mix (Pie Crust mix is awesome too) -Pasta - Tinkyada and Ancient Harvest Quinoa -Pizza/Pizza Crust - Chebe -Flour Mix -- Bette Hagman...
  4. My father was Dutch and my mother is half German and half Seminole Indian. Someone mentioned still having baby teeth. I'm 35 and still have 3 baby teeth because my real teeth never developed so there was nothing to push my baby teeth out. I just had the 4th replaced with an implant. I also am missing my wisdom teeth. It's really neat to see my baby...
  5. Unfortunately, not all chreese is gluten-free. The dry mixes have a regular version and a gluten-free version. The Nacho Chreese in the jar is gluten-free. Here are the ingredients for the regular cheddar cheese sauce and the gluten-free version: Cheddar Style Chreese Mix Ingredients: Organic Unbleached White Flour, Nutritional Yeast, Organic Tapioca...
  6. I drink Living Harvest every day without a problem and I'm painfully sensitive. It's the best dairy, soy and gluten-free milk-like substance I've tried. It makes great Lattes! I like the Open Original Shared Link.
  7. All Chreese is dairy and soy free but not all of it is gluten-free so check the boxes and packets. They make a gluten-free line and a regular line and I don't think the wheat mac and cheese has the gluten-free sauce. The gluten-free pasta is not too good so I usually get the sauce packets and mix it with Tinkyada. The nacho chreese in the jar is pretty...
  8. I am quite happy with the Kirkman line: Open Original Shared Link
  9. So I am reviewing the Open Original Shared Link today and notice that the coconut milk (Premium Coconut Milk and Premium Coconut Milk Organic) manufactured in Indonesia contains soybeans but the stuff made in Thailand does not. I emailed the company and asked them to clarify how I can determine where it is manufactured because when you order online there...
  10. One thought if you don't do soy...is Peter Pan peanut butter soy-free? I use Skippy Natural and thought it was the only regular peanut butter that didn't have soy. Another wierd non-gluten thing with me - I can't do prepared tomato sauces. I think it has something to do with one of the other ingredients.
  11. I second the potato chips and also suggest you re-evaluate all of your existing foods and products to make sure something hasn't changed. I've been feeling poorly for a month and just figured out that the vitamins I've been taking for years changed their formula and oddly my problems began when I started a new bottle That one was a hard one to figure...
  12. I ran across this recipe for egg-free mayo on the Ener-G site. I've never tried it but it looks like a decent recipe: INGREDIENTS: 2 tbsp Ener-G Egg Replacer 4 tbsp water 1 cup oil 1 tsp sugar or honey 1 1/2 tsp vinegar or lemon juice 2 tsp dry mustard PREPARATION: Combine Ener-G gluten-free Egg Replacer and water. Beat until peaks are formed...
  13. There are only two GFCFSF cheese-like alternatives that I know of and neither are overly cheesy. I think you if you go into it not necessarily expecting cheese you'll do OK. Galaxy Naturals Vegan Rice Slices (must get vegan as the regular Rice contains casein): Open Original Shared Link Road's End Organics Chreese (they have a gluten free line...
  14. If you are in Vienna try the Art Corner Cafe outside the Belvedere Museum. It's a Greek restaurant and it is fabulous! We had a full gluten-free meal (Greek salad with many sauces, 7 kinds of grilled fish, dessert and drinks). There was 1 thing I couldn't have and they were very clear about that. It's pricey - about 100 Euros but worth it. It's not...
  15. I had unexplained anemia for years. Once I cut out gluten my iron levels slowly corrected themselves - it took about 1 year though and I had to be religious about taking iron supplements. I take a prescription supplement and really love it. It's called Chromagen. I also give myself B12, folic acid and B-complex injections once a week. Open Original...
  16. I just wanted to follow up on this and let everyone know that I received gluten-free meals on both legs of my flight on Northwest Airlines. I flew Detriot - Amsterdam and Amsterdam - Memphis. Both meals were clearly marked speical meal/GFML. The meal out of Detriot was a rice cake (big surprise), salad and steamed chicken and rice. Not the best. The...
  17. A set of in-laws live in Stowe, VT and I find it very easy to find gluten-free good there. Not to mention the awesome skiing! It's a very interesting town with a European feel. There are quite a few local restaurants with chefs that can accomodate a gluten-free diet with notice. My MIL says the Stowe Meadows Inn offers gluten free fare.

    ARCHIVED Oats

So I just had a thought about certified gluten free oats. The Gifts of Nature oats are certified by GFCO so I decided to see if they had a threashold for gluten-free and here's what the GFCO website says: Does gluten-free certification guarantee that a product is gluten-free? The mark assures that the product contains less than 10 ppm gluten (5...

    ARCHIVED Oats

That would be me! I got violently ill (like considering the ER ill) from Gifts of nature certified gluten free oats and it's just like a gluten reaction. I'm always very methodical about introducing new foods and only introduce 1 at a time and wait a week after because I want to make sure that I know what makes me sick and what doesn't. Now, I had only...
  20. I don't remember a gluten-free option on China Airlines but I only fly the Tokyo - Taipei route. They may offer something on their flights originating in the States. Taipei is a great city. There is a Japanese restaurant in the Westin and the Grand Hotel has a sahsimi plate on the menu. I think the Hyatt has a French restaurant but I haven't eaten...
  21. If you go to NWA.com and enter your last name and conf number in the manage my reservations section (on the home page) it'll pull up the reservation details. There'll be a few drop downs and under the Update Reservation / Add Information dropdown you see an option called view /add special services. In the special services section, there will be another...
  22. Northwest offers gluten-free meals. You can specify one in your itinerary on their website. I am heading Europe in a few weeks on NW and ordered one. You can also order the fruit plate. That's usually pretty safe. Not very filling but safe...
  23. I found it at Kroger and have seen it in several of their stores. It's the only place I've ever seen it.
  24. I agree with ravenswood. I had all the symptoms of RA except the factor. I even got a round of methotrexate because my Dr didn't want to wait for the rheumatoid factor to be positive. For me, it was gluten all along. If I even get a little bit through cross contamination my joints burn and my hands and feet go numb and stop working for 5 days. ...
  25. I've eaten quite a few large party-size bags of original Lay's without a problem but the small single serve bags get me every time. I suspect it's cross contamination because I don't get violently ill like I do when I ingest gluten but I definitely have a few familiar and rather annoying symptoms for a couple of days. I've never checked to see which plant...
