ARCHIVED To Go Or Not To Go To New York City
MaryJones2 replied to MJ-S's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
There is also Pure Food & Wine (vegan), Risotteria (gluten-free restaurant), Bloom's Deli and a dozen other places that I can't think of that have gluten free menus that can probably handle gluten-free/df/sf to some degree. You can also hit up the NYC Celiac Meetup group and see if they have suggestions. -
Progresso broth contains autolyzed yeast which is basically MSG so if you are sensitive to MSG that might be the culprit.

ARCHIVED Gluten In My Thyroid Meds!

I would still like to know the response of the manufacturer to your inquiry. -
ARCHIVED Gluten In My Thyroid Meds!
MaryJones2 replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Who is the manufacturer of the Cytomel that you mention? Also, what response did you receive from the company? -
ARCHIVED Best gluten-free Bagels? Muffins? Bread?
MaryJones2 replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Joan's gluten-free Great Bakes hands down for bagels and english muffins... -
ARCHIVED Can I Trust A Gluten-Free Meal From American Airlines?
MaryJones2 replied to lucia's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
All airlines and flights are hit or miss really so you should just assume you aren't getting anything. Sometimes the gluten-free meals aren't loaded on the plane, sometimes they give it another passenger but most often when there is a problem it's because the meal is just not truly gluten-free. All of the gluten-free meals I've had have also been heavy... -
ARCHIVED Soy Free/gluten Free Tuna
MaryJones2 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Trader Joe's also has a few that are soy free. -
It works but it certainly doesn't taste anything like traditional roux. I really haven't found any flour that tastes similar to wheat but chickpea and sorghum do a good job. They don't seem to get as gummy as some of the other flours.

I use Bush beans all the time without issues. I generally stay away from the chili/ranch type beans that have a lot of spices and other additives though regardless of gluten-free status. I have noticed a few brands (Great Value for example) that say they are processed on equipment with wheat so I stay away from those because I am reasonably sensitive in...

It definitely varies by location. I went to one in Arkansas about a month ago and they couldn't even find the gluten-free menu and also did not stock gluten-free bread. The mgr was thoroughly confused about the whole gluten thing and just didn't get it at all. So apparently not all locations are as friendly as others...

ARCHIVED Best Bread Machine
MaryJones2 replied to Germaine's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome! I personally like the Zojirushi. It's one of the most popular here too. They are pricey though. There are a few out there with gluten-free settings so you might want to research those if price is an issue. -
ARCHIVED Crap! I Was Gluttened....
MaryJones2 replied to pain*in*my*gut's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't trust anything prepared from Whole Foods. I'm always surprised how unaware they are of gluten-free in that dept as they label everything vegan, etc. -
ARCHIVED Waffle Iron Blues
MaryJones2 replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I've seen a cast iron stovetop version that has a bottom plate (like a simmer plate) that stays on the stove while you flip the waffle part. Not quite as messy as the camping versions... -
If you want a sit down restaurant there is One Flew South in Concourse E - it's very good food and very expensive but by far the best choice - they will make anything gluten-free for you. There is also a Chile's in Concourse A (the one overlooking the runway) that is accomodating but I'd stick to basics like hamburgers, etc. and not rely on them to know...

If you do contact the caterer or bride it would be a nice gesture to offer to pay for your meals as caterers often charge extra for special or different meals.

ARCHIVED Golden Pheasant Polenta
MaryJones2 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I picked up a bag of Golden Pheasant polenta the other day and am wondering if anyone has any positive or negative experiences? What little I can find on it suggests it's produced on a dedicated line. I am very particular about polenta - I don't care for the premixed and like a very coarse grind. I live in a very small town so it's either this brand or... -
I have only gotten sick once eating sushi. Someone at our table ordered a spider roll and the best answer I can come up with is that the same knife was used to cut it and the cucumber roll I ordered. I generally don't order rolls - only sashimi and occassionally sushi. Never had a problem with sashimi.

I wonder if the CEO will also be the one making the desicion to discontinue their gluten free menu because it's not profitable... Perhaps he should call the CEOs of Outback and PF Changs and ask how profitable their gluten-free menus are... I'd be curious to see what PPM the pizzas test at given their current practices...

ARCHIVED Bj's Brewhouse Now Has Gluten-Free Pizookis!
MaryJones2 replied to CalicoSue's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Awesome - thanks for sharing! BJs in San Jose is the best. I believe BJs participates in the GIG program and they are fairly aware of cc. -
ARCHIVED First Time On Plane Celiac
MaryJones2 replied to slee11211's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
It's a short flight so your best best is pack food. Airports are hit or miss. Sometimes I can find sushi (or Legal in Boston) but most times it's a fruit/vegetable/cheese plate or fast food. My advice when you get there is to plan ahead so you aren't stuck driving around trying to find some place accomodating or worse yet go hungy while everyone else is... -
ARCHIVED What's Really Edible At Fast Food Places?
MaryJones2 replied to violentlyserene's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The oil is gluten free and the fries are gluten free. The fries and hash browns are cooked in dedicated fryers. -
ARCHIVED Kirkland Smoked Salmon
MaryJones2 replied to klahusen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The only smoked salmon I've seen with gluten are the ones that have soy glazes but the wheat is clearly labeled (SeaBear makes a soy ginger smoked salmon with regular soy sauce). If it's the Kirkland smoked salmon I'm thinking of it should be just plain smoked salmon and OK. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Clayton, Georgia?
MaryJones2 replied to Coolclimates's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Asheville will be no problem. I haven't been to Clayton in several years but seem to remember it's a very small town and unfortunately I wouldn't expect to find much...I'm sure there are a few restaurants in Highlands. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Know What Ppm Udi's Products Tests At?
MaryJones2 replied to shayre's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think I do well with their granola either but I think I just have a problem with oats in general. I did accidentally pick up their regular granola which is only wheat-free (the packages are surprisingly similar) and had mild symptoms.
