  1. I am really lucky. My MIL, who can be a pain, was so sweet and actually ordered the GIG product binder for me as a gift. My mother got my son a gluten-free cookbook for kids. My MIL is a good cook, so I like eating her food. But after I was off gluten for a few months, I started getting sick from hidden gluten -- in tupperware, CC, you all know...
  2. Thanks Jackie. That's hard, watching others eat. I'm getting used to it. He eats a home-packed lunch 95% of the time. Now I think it will be 100%. I think I will use the wide-mouth thermos idea like someone said on this parent's forum. Chili, leftover (gluten-free) spagetti and meatballs, soups, etc. Usually his lunch is a combination of: Lara...
  3. Thanks, I've considered enterolab, but I'm not sure if I trust them, at least to spend my money on. Plus the collection process grosses me out. (??You're supposed to put it in YOUR FREEZER until you fill it up???!!) I guess if the doc is uncooperative and DS still needs some convincing we may consider it. Or we might do the Prometheus labs and pay out...
  4. My 14 yo son is wicked smart and wants to be an inventor. I suggested that he invent a test to use on food before you eat it. Since I have celiac disease and he may, it would certainly be great to have something. There's no money in celiac disease for drug companies, but there would be $ in an invention like this.
  5. That's one SMART doctor!
  6. Eriella, (what a pretty name!) You gave me some good ideas and some hope. I have told him that he can try "gluten-lite" outside the house and see, but I am like you. Once I went off gluten I became hyper-sensitive. But who knows, he may be different. I'm glad that they are accomodating you at college, as I worry about that. He is in a gifted HS program...
  7. Tom, thanks for the reply. Yes, his growing as a benefit of the diet is the only thing that might convince him to try the diet. He is tired of being among the shortest and looking so young. It would help with sports too. And one of the neighbor kids who is younger and had always been small, shot up and got a fuzzy mustache and a deep voice in the past...
  8. Hi everyone, I was diagnosed by biopsy in February and have felt better, not perfect but better than in a long time ('m 44 and have probably had celiac disease for 20 years). My blood-work was negative and my biopsy showed no blunting or damage but it did show classic celiac immune response. My DS, who is 14, is active and smart but for the past two...
  9. How about: Black Bean Chipolte Garden Burger, slice Pepper Jack Cheese melted on top with an egg over easy on top or scrambled eggs. Add salsa with avacados for the adventurous. Wrap in a corn or rice tortilla if desired. Gardenburger also makes Flame-grilled burgers, which are also gluten free.
  10. Have you tried Fish Oil? I also second the lunchtime walks...sunlight and exercise are both helpful and will help you sleep better too. Let us know if we can help more.
  11. Angel, Hope you get some relief from the craving soon. This reminds me that when I was (undiagnosed celiac) pregnant I ate a glazed donut at work. I was in so much pain, I had to go home and curl up into a ball and stayed there for 8 hours. I thought it was the grease from the dougnut and avoided doughnuts for the rest of the pregnancy. Looking back...
  12. Hi Goldy - Great Name! Welcome! I'm sad that you've got a severe case but your doc sounds marvelous, compared to mine and other stories I've heard here. It's great that he recommended this site, too! Living Gluten Free for Dummies is a great way to get started if you want a book. Peter Green M.D. also has a good celiac book that you could read. The...
  13. I had a lot of the same symptoms but doc thought it was an ulcer. So I had a GI who did the endoscopy. While he was there he took biopsy samples, but I had no blunting of villi. BUT I did have evidence in the sample of immunological response and was diagnosed with celiac on that and the resulting dietary response. My bloodwork for celiac, though, was...
  14. I also saw you just moved to Bremerton. I'm outside Seattle, and my sister lives in Keyport right by the Base on the water. ~Laura
  15. Try Karina's gluten free carrot cake Open Original Shared Link which my teenaged kids said is the best, hands down, carrot cake ever- including ones with gluten. ~Laura
  16. Submariner wife- I just love your dog picture...is it a border collie? Do tell... ~Laura P.S. That's quite a history. I'm glad you're feeling better.
  17. I have great results with peppermint tea. Or lemon balm tea, which is harder to find. Trader Joe's has a great "Mint Medley" tea with peppermint, spearmint and lemongrass. It soothes me and helps me feel less nauseous right away. I really do believe it lessens the time that I feel sick. ~Laura
  18. Hi Grey, I, too, had canker sores for years. Mine were also in response to biting my mouth or sometimes with no known cause. Thought it was normal, or at least a normal response to stress. 1-2 per month. I've only had one since I went gluten free and it was right after being accidentally glutened. Funny that you have more. However, before diagnosis...

    ARCHIVED Insomnia

I had this problem earlier this year after diagnosis. I still have trouble going to sleep earlier, it seems I just can't relax (as evidenced by this post at 11:48pm). I still get fatigued during the day, though. It is getting better over time, I think.
  20. Hi Kelly, I'm also in Bellevue! ~Laura
  21. I haven't found the BiAglut yet but I found the bionaturae in spaghetti form today at QFC and bought a package. I have tried Tinkyada rotelli and it was ok but not wonderful. I also bought Tinkyada lasagne noodles but haven't tried them yet. Has anyone tried the Quinoa noodles? I also bought them. (Pasta was my favorite food, tied with Pizza, pre...
  22. My feet would go numb while biking. The trainer at the gym suggested I loosen the laces on my shoes. Worked like a charm. Something about a vein running over the top of the foot. ~Laura
  23. Hi Missmommy, I didn't have celiac when I had my kids but I have an idea for you, actually for anyone facing surgery or hospitalization: Try to have someone stay with you for active labor and right after delivery (12-18 hours, more if you have a c-section) who knows something about hospitals. My sister is an RN and she offered to stay with me if I...
  24. Try peppermint (or lemon balm) tea. It really helps me with the queasy stomach and the rumbling tummy noises and helps me feel better faster, I think. Sorry and good luck!
  25. Cesestial Seasonings has lemon balm combined with cammomile (sp?) but I'm allergic to that; it's one of their blends. They have a few mint flavors too. You could try Whole Foods or Wild Oats too. ~Laura
