  1. You may be getting glutened by the cat food. But think about this. Ever open your mouth in the shower? Ever get your shampoo bubbles in your eyes? The shampoo, I think, is more of a threat IN the shower than out of it. People tend to have their mouths open when under the shower stream because it's easier to breathe, and most aren't even aware of it. Even...
  2. I made a taco pizza the other day with Whole Foods gluten-free crusts. Just brown the meat, stir in a can of refried beans and top with any veggie, bake til the edges are a bit crispy, and top with cold sour cream & salsa. Easy to make dairy free, too, I guess! It was very yummy.
  3. Hey! I just read that the yolk in a single large egg contains 5 grams of fat. That could help. One of my favorite meals is scrambled eggs with avocado and slsa on top. I know it sounds weird, but don't knock it til you try it.
  4. Another thought: I would also probably not allow him to eat with me until he behaves. Anyone that disrespects my (or my child's) health would be banished to another room. But I can be a bit more hard-headed than a lot of people, so that might not be the best route for you to take.
  5. I agree. Also, when I figured out my Celiac, my entire family was instantly on-point. I mean, it was never even suggested by anyone that I don't have to be as careful as I do or that I'm overreacting or any of the crap that a lot of the people on the board have to put up with. I think I would feel pretty darn hurt if my Daddy treated me like that. You might...
  6. Perhaps we could help in finding you an alternative protein supplement, or alternative diet that provides more protein, instead. I'm guessing that would be a thriftier investment of your time. you could even buy rice protein and mix your own drinks?
  7. I know this is probably unrelated, but when my father had leukemia, his kidney function was down to 20 % at the onset of the disease (how do they figure out those numbers, anyway?) But it came back up once his system was stabilized. So decreased kidney function is not necessarily a result of kidney disease and not necessarily permanent. If that helps. You...
  8. Meatloaf! Um, avocado on your salad is good. Tuna on salad, or with pasta. Baked apples with raisins and honey in the empty center. We just had turkey breast roasted in honey muatsrd sauce with mashed butternut squash and peas for dinner. Hint: for turkey, go heavy on the mustard....... Edit: Sorry, just caught the mustard thing! Maybe homemade barbecue...
  9. They won't let you eat your own food? The people I gave blood with were totally cool about me not eating their food, told me to eat something when I got home. And I didn't have to wait a 1/2 hour, either. Maybe ten minutes. What state are you in?
  10. Excellent idea. This is what I would do in this situation. I've done the sit and watch other people eat, it's really not any fun.
  11. Does anyone else have tough time giving blood? Not the whole needle thing, I'm cool with needles even though it was actually quite uncomfortable for me, but I was passing out for three days after. I do tend to have low blood pressure, so I'm kind of blaming that, I'm just curious whether giving blood makes anyone else feel like crap for a few days. Keep in...
  12. Holy crap, your bottle says so? That's cool.
  13. I'm the opposite, I used to drink like a fish and now one glass of wine or (gluten-free) beer is all I can handle. Huh.
  14. It sounds to me like your hubby needs a wake-up call. You're his WIFE. Your health should be paramount above all else, especially since it's so relatively easy to maintain. All they have to do is pay attention. I would tell them that if they're not willing to do something as simple as PAY ATTENTION to what they're doing in order to keep you healthy, then...
  15. I think you've been under a wrong impression about gluten free dough, which is understandable. Gluten free dough does not need kneading. Kneading is a process carried out with gluten filled flours in order to develop the gluten's elasticity. That's what gives gluteny bread that light airiness so difficult to achieve in gluten-free baking. Our flours have...
  16. I made the GFPantry chocolate chip cake once and it was really really good with strawberry compote on top. I'll be making a Bob's red Mill mix soon, and will keep you all updated.
  17. OOO rice pudding, that's next on my list. I made Tapioca the other from Bob's red Mill recipe, WOW!! Yummy! I had to stare at gluten all day (rolls, croissants, bread, cookies) but when I had my tapioca at the end of the day, it was all worth not having... Did that make sense?....
  18. Um, I would say, stop eating gluten. And maybe Pepto Bismol?
  19. No vegetables?
  20. I know this doesn't help any right now, but maybe next holiday you could make food ahead of time and freeze it in containers for you and your daughter and that way there's nothing for your parents to worry about? (Or you to stress about?)
  21. Raven, I just got some of that makeup myself, the Bare Minerals stuff. I love it. I think you're being a wonderful Mom and I know how heartbreaking it is when a kid is hellbent on self destruction. Unfortunately, I don't have much advice, as I'm a 23 yr old female who doesn't happen to have that stubborn, "I'm smarter than you" streak. I had it kicked out...
  22. I'd say my hunger decreased by about two-thirds overall, not as quick or as suddenly as yours did. Except once my hunger leveled off, I finally started gaining weight. I was a stereotypical underweight, always eating Celiac. Now I'm 5'7" and 140 lbs. Wooohhooo!!!!! I look pretty hot now, actually.... (I'm not bragging, it's just nice not to be a stick)
  23. I don't think it means cow milk, I think it's just a dairy warning for the IQ impaired who can't figure out cheese contains milk. You know, like the box of Wheaties says "contains wheat". Ya think?
  24. Oh boy indeed. Can I come to Chiacgo for Christmas?
  25. Care to elaborate a bit on mixing directions and bake time?
