  1. Fortunately, all those other things are much easier to eliminate from the list of possibles than Celiac.
  2. Ohhh.... So then they must be looking for blood in the stool? Sounds like a wierd thing to be looking for when you're trying to investgate white poo, but whatever. Can't they just take a sample from you (not to be graphic or anything) like with a gloved finger? They did that to me once, that would eclipse the need to worry about period blood anyway. I still...
  3. I'm a little concerned about this statement. You're saying that on a previous, unrelated doctor visit, advice was given that you are adhering to unneccessarily now, without consulting your current doctor? Sometimes, you just have to demand that your doctor tell you everything he's doing, and why. You are entitled to that information. If you really can't remember...
  4. I've never heard of anything else that does it, perhaps someone else will chime in. The standard among medical professionals is that if there is villous blunting of the small intestine, then you have Celiac. There is no other possible diagnosis that I am aware of.
  5. Just wanted to make sure you got this info, Football Fanatic. How uncool is that? Hope you can just stop taking it.....
  6. I have to disagree. I have had some seriously better than gluten stuff so far. For one, the pretzels! Normal pretzels are dry and flavorless, our pretzels are yummy and my friends are always stealing them. And I have had some out-of-this world brownies. And if you really still can't find anything, make the hot fudge cake on the recipes section of this site...
  7. Also, gluten-free doughs do NOT behave the same as their gluten counterparts. It's best to use a recipe or mix exactly the way it says to ONCE, then see what you'd like to change, no matter how goofy the recipe or mix seems to be. Do doublecheck that you haven't missed something crucial, like the flour, though........ But gluten-free doughs tend to look,...
  8. Just wanted to mention, I've just tried the new Kinnikinnick waffles, and they are, in my opinion, far superior to all the others, Van's and Lifestream included. That, and the cinnamon & brown sugar flavor leaves my kitchen smelling like cinnamon rolls for the whole day.
  9. Are you at a wierd altitude?
  10. I haven't had any trouble with Chebe, and I'm pretty sure they all have modified manioc starch.
  11. The chocolate bar is a good idea. It may seem like too much effort, Mandy, but it's totally worth it to just quit. I was 19 when I figured it out, and I had to do it all on my own. I ate rice pasta with meat sauce for two meals a day for over three months because I couldn't figure anything else but eggs out. Yeah, it sucks at first. Yeah, it's something you...
  12. If you're going to try a goat or sheep milk cheese, try to make sure it's made from raw cheese, not pasteurized cheese. A lot of people tolerate raw dairy much better than pasteurized. It's also far healthier. And the raw milk hard cheeses last FOREVER in the fridge.
  13. As a new gluten free baker, there's a bit of key info you may not be aware of. Corn starch and corn flour are NOT the same thing, neither are potato starch and potato flour. The only time a starch is the same as a flour is with tapioca. Just thought I would mention it because you had starch/flour slashed together as if they were the same thing, and that could...
  14. Standard addition of xanthan gum is one teaspoon for every 1- 1 1/2 cups of flour. (I think, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.)
  15. I'm just curious, why would a stool sample have to wait until your menstrual cycle is over? What does one have to do with the other?
  16. Yeah, if you make them with cashew or almond butter they turn into plain cookies you can add whatever you want to, like cherries and coconut or chocolate chips.
  17. I think you should inform the walk-in clinic doctor of how you were treated at the hospital and also, make him tell you what in your urinalysis made him send you to the ER in the firstplace. What tests do they have at the ER that the walk-in clinic doc didn't have?
  18. Try Mi-Del ginger snaps or arrowroot cookies. Mi-del's cookies are hard already, so they make good crumbs.
  19. Probably too much fluid. Chebe is very sensitive and it should still seem crumbly when you start to knead it by hand. Also, make sure it's not too thick when you bake it, or the outside will burn while the inside is squishy. I have used that mix with success in the past, so I would say keep trying. For now, cut off the cooked part and cook the soggy part...
  20. Hey, I'm making my own Thanksgiving dinner today because I didn't get anything thanksgiving-y over the holiday because we only visited, I wasn't able to cook anything. So I'll let you guys know how much stuff I screw up! I already aced the pies and the sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes though, did those yesterday, so it can't be a total loss no matter what...
  21. Barb, you are my hero.
  22. Hey, it's better than eating a whole cake.
  23. "Weekly carb load"? I don't get it..... (forgive my ignorance, is this a dieter's thing?) My doctor tested me for tapeworm once too, before I went gluten-free. I started feeling less hungry al the time when I left a stressful job and started working out more. And added all the extra good fats. You may also have a vitamin deficiency, and that's why your...
