  1. I agree, bringing your own food is probably safer and less stressful for both you and your host.
  2. Babinsky- give it a couple weeks, then try Tinkyada pasta. It's made from rice and it's the general favorite on the board, I've fed it to people without them noticing the difference. There are also gluten-free breadcrumbs available.
  3. Maybe the Triumph dining cards like you would give to a restaurant would be a good idea.
  4. I do Mac& cheese two different ways. One, just boil the noodles and mix in shredded cheddar, mozz. and swiss. Two, I do fancy baked Mac & cheese. Here's the recipe. 14-16 oz dry macaroni 6 Tbsp butter, melted Salt, pepper, garlic powder, mustard flour, nutmeg to taste 6 cups shredded cheese (cheddar w/ 1 cup romano is my fave) 1 quart milk...
  5. Not to put too fine a point on it, but are you getting blood IN your stool, or more on the paper when you wipe? If it's the paper when you wipe, you probably PO'd your hemmorhoids. If it's IN your stool, I would be very concerned. Especially since you've also experienced vomiting around the same time.
  6. Anyone from this area? I live in the Middletown, Ct area and haven't really been able to find the most accomodating restaurants, if you know what I mean. Anyone have any good experiences?
  7. Stick to Wendy's, the chili is safe and it's 'real' food.
  8. OMG I will drive to corporate and personally hug the people if I could get a gluten-free brownie once in a while without having to make them myself. And you know how good they'd be, too.....
  9. Bluewave, the cool thing about a gluten-free diet is that it can't possibly hurt. There is absolutely no risk involved in trying gluten-free, there's no way to 'trigger' celiac, either you have it or you don't. If she has it, the fever she had a couple years ago may have exacerbated her symptoms, made them more apparent. It does sound to me like her symptoms...
  10. Nice trick! And you get to do something useful at the same time, I need to know my blood type but I'm cheap, I think I'll go do that.......
  11. Oh. Ouch. Maybe mix it up with some beef stir fry and use lots of gluten-free soy sauce? I also found this recipe on Allrecipes, it got very good reviews...... Good luck.... If you're looking for more ways to disguise it, maybe try getting it ground and mixing it with ground beef for pasta, and use lots of spices? Chicken Livers stroganoff INGREDIENTS...
  12. Also, leafy greens have lots of iron. I'd rather have a salad every day than liver.
  13. Teff flour is also a good baking flour, the more different flours you put in a recipe, typically, the better it performs.

    ARCHIVED My Rant

You know Kassandra, I agree with you. I also think that a lot of the people responding to this thread are taking the things said here entirely too personally. It seems like everyone read the original post and thought, "Wow, that was meant directly for me, and I must be the one they're talking about, and I need to get up in arms about it." I think the person...

    ARCHIVED My Rant

You know, I kinda get what you're saying. The chipper, cheery, cheerleady people do kinda freak me out. But for some people though, like me, it's just not that hard. I'm not EXCITED about having this disease, but, I'm also not gonna whine about missing out on Burger King. Knowing what I've learned about nutrition, I'm glad I stopped eating all that stuff...
  16. Actually, there are a number of traditional societies that still consume dairy products and get quite a health benefit from them. The key is, they're not pasteurized. Anyone notice how prevalent asthma became a few years after they started pasteurizing milk? Anyone notice how healthy Amish people are? Check out the Weston A Price foundation website, lots...
  17. Oh, my, that's wonderfully good to know. I tend to just buy whatever's on sale, so if I get them, I'll know no choclate! Thanks!
  18. Sign me up! Let's make it a news-time commercial, too.
  19. It's raw sugar, unprocessed, it looks like really big salt crystals, usually kinda brown. Very tsaty in recipes where it will dissolve properly, but the PB cookies isn't one of those recipes.....
  20. For this recipe, do NOT use turbinado sugar unless you like crunching you rsugar, I made that mistake. If you're looking for good pre-made cookies, the Whole Foods gluten-free Bakehouse Choc chip cookies are unbelievable, all the non-Celiac people I know beg me to share them. They are prohibitively expensive, but still cheaper than you would have spent...
  21. If it helps, there's a crapload of gluten-free cereal, especially Enviro-Kidz brand, they put a little gluten-free tag in the upper right-hand corner of the gluten free flavors.
  22. I have to agree. A lot of people don't think it's fair to 'force' people who don't need to be gluten-free to have a gluten-free home. I think it's unfair that there's so many people who care more about their own convenience than the health of the people they're supposed to love most in the world. The cost won't matter if you die of cancer, is the way I look...
  23. It does sound like you picked osmething up. I might go with a course o ftreatment from a cleansing program, like Dr colonix or something, because a doctor only has drugs that kill one thing. Like if you have giardia, he has drugs that will kill that, but nothing else, and you may also have another kind of parasite. One of those cleansing deals gets rid of...
  24. We bought something at Walmart called Cubies, they're little ice-cube size pillow shaped refreezble containers of non-toxic substance, they're great! We use them for everything, we bought like 6 boxes and now we don't buy ice for trips anymore. And they're little, so they're good for drinks, too.
