  1. Yeah, especially if you're like me and have a habit of stirring with whatever's in your hand. (Bad habit....) Also, I've found that gluten-free baking does not agree with non-stick pans. Even when I grease them to death, or if I don't grease them at all. My stuff always comes out of the pan much better if it's glass or that white pan I have (ceramic...
  2. By 'colander' did you mean the basket you fried the fries in? If so, those are impossible to get all the gluten out, as well as a regular pasta colander, that's probably your culprit. Try waiting a week and having another egg on a clean pan, any pan you had with scratches in it isn't safe by the way, because gluten hides in scratches. Oh, and we call it chicken...
  3. I have to chime in and agree that there are non-celiac people out there who are wonderful, as well. My boyfriend and I are having our one-year anniversary on Oct 8th and he found out about my Celiac on our first date. He's better about things than I am, he doesn't even want to go out to restaurants anymore if it's just us, he won't let any gluten in the house...
  4. Hi, I don't mean to be a smartass, but what exactly do you mean by 'chicken beefs'? Is that some store bought thing? And as for the reaction you're having, it sounds like gluten to me, not some other kind of reaction.
  5. I think you're right to go to the authorities, he shouldn't be allowed to see his kids if he can't take proper care of them when he has them. Here's a good medical description of Celiac disease from the homepage https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1428 maybe you could print it out and show it to CPS next time you meet with someone, and they can...
  6. HAHAHAH!!!! Well, in THAT case, Blue collar comedy tour is probably what I would have sent!
  7. Um, I wouldn't take any fiber supplements that are wheat derived, but my understanding was that psyllium is gluten-free? Some people's digestive systems may not be able to handle it, but that doesn't mean it's got gluten in it. And it's not a bad idea to take a fiber supplement to try and help stop the D.
  8. I would add that Gluten-free doughs frequently look nothing like the gluten doughs you are used to, don't give in to the temptation to add something to make it 'look right'. Trust the people who gave you the recipe!
  9. I found a recipe for yeast-y rolls on recipezaar and it's very similar to the danish someone posted here, which is why it caught my attention. I thought when I was making those danish that they would translate well to yeast rolls, apparently someone agreed! Try this link Open Original Shared Link
  10. There's also the fact that learning the kind of self-control a child needs to learn with this disease will be VERY valuable to them later in life, and since when was ANY kid EVER able to have a 'normal' childhood? I mean really, did any single person on this board grow up without being made fun of once, or getting picked on, or not being able to join in something...
  11. Angel, there is the fact that this disease sets you apart from the norm no matter what situation you are in or how unfair it is, and you may always have to prepare your own food no matter what. Keep in mind, the people who are bringing food have no idea how to make their kitchens gluten-free and the food, though it be cut up carrots and cucumbers, may not...
  12. I wouldn't take it either.
  13. If she keeps developing more reactions to new foods and she's already gluten-free, it may be a good idea to look into things like MCS, multiple chemical sensitivity, which can happen if you've been exposed to a really toxic chemical, or she may be dealing with heavy metal toxicity, which is always a good thing to ask your doctor about. Heavy metal toxicity...
  14. Jesse- salads and no-bun burger patties! Just tell them the salad can't have ever had croutons on it and has to be made in a fresh bowl, and check if their grill gets buns toasted on it, though that's rare. Celiac does not mean no friends. Movies, laser tag, hiking, bowling, plays, concerts, clubs, go-karts, mini-golf, and picnics are all naturally gluten...
  15. In that case I would check with Powerade, just in case, and if they're gluten free, I'd be more paranoid about flour in the air.
  16. I most especially wouldn't trust anything from a company who for one, doesn't inform their employees properly, and for two, allows them to be so very rude. And your nutritionist is probably getting a deal for using their stuff so much, and I wouldn't trust them either.
  17. Just make sure you never used a gluten-y utensil in your baking powder! (I have a habit of stirring with whatever's in my hand, had to throw a lot out)
  18. Virgie, try the recipes link on the homepage here, you'd be surprised how much stuff you can make. I think there might be a donut recipe.
  19. Ok, first, overloading on fruit juice will not help anything. You're causing your insulin levels to jerk round and that's only going to make you feel crappy. Walmart carries a B-vitamin complex that I take (called B-100, not the super-B complex, that has wheat) and I've felt better since I started taking it. It's only six dollars here for 60 pills, so it...
  20. If you 'thought' it was Gatorade, does that mean it came out of a punch bowl? If it was something that someone somehow served to you, that could be the culprit as well, but then there is what confused said.
  21. If I can be nosy, what are these meds for, Ali?
  22. I think it was rather different for me because I never got an official diagnoses. When I was 19, I got VERY sick all of a sudden in the summer and it totally ruined my life for a while. My boyfriend had to bring me to the doctor's and the hospital once at one in the morning, I kept missing work, I'd pass out in the shower. For six months the docs did everything...
  23. Has anyone had the Elyon brand marshmallows? I got them at Whole Foods, I want to make my boyfriend and myself some hot chocolate (we're only gluten free) and I was about to use these marshmallows when I read the ingredients and it says "natural vanilla flavors". Has anyone had these? Do you think I'd be safe since it doesn't have a contains wheat disclaimer...
  24. Sorghum, tapioca, potato, almond, amaranth, montina, or just flourless baking. try googling flourless anything you want to bake, it usually works. If you test positive for heavy metal toxicity, try looking up something called chlorella to help cleanse yourself, I'm sure there's lots of other stuff too.
  25. That does seem kind of dumb, have you considered asking Carla B what supplemnts she takes for killing off the bad bugs, like oregano oil and such? Most of those things are much safe (won't kill the good bugs) and you can take for a lot longer.
