    ARCHIVED Im New!

Welcome! This website will help you wonderfully! We have lots of "seasoned pros" and then people like me who are finding out the hard way how things are. This site will give you reciepies and book suggestions! Just keep reading and you will find more than you ever wanted to know about Celiac!
  2. Could It be a reaction to MSG? Though MSG is debatable on weather it is safe for Celiacs, I have always found that it causes gluten like reactions in me. I don't think something like Coke would have MSG, but Bacon may and any canned goods or even many broths. Coke could have artfical sweeteners and they can cause problems too. Hopefully somone else...
  3. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link In those threads there are more information, and some name brands. In the last thread Kinsford is quoted as saying that gluten burns off... but to me that just means that the smoke from the brickettes have gluten and that gets on food, and you! My boyfriend who...
  4. When I went gluten-free, I also cut out artifical sweeteners, MSG, most processed foods actually. I have made a concious effort to eat from the outsides of the grogery store. Only go in to center isles for things like rice or some seasonings. Just to be honest, I made a conscious effort, i didn't succeed to well. It's Really hard to overaul 26 years of...
  5. From what i understand most commercial charcoal brikettes contain wheat. I understand that you need "natural" charcoal. It's still common but not the baisic "Kinsford" brand or anything. Lava Rocks that are used in Gas Grills are fine. I'd do a search on Charcoal up in the site search to get more info, that is just what I know off the top of my head...
  6. I seem to be handling the coffee mate ok, I "accidently" had some cool ranch doritos today.. I knew cool ranch were ok gluten wise.... i didnt' think about whey in them! Now those I didn't handle as well. Well it think it was them.. either that or the baked potaoe from wendys "just chives". I hate hate hate being casien intolerant... much worse than gluten...
  7. I find it so funny that doctors tell us, "It's in your head!". In your case, if eating gluten-free was making you feel better, does it matter really if it's a real postive reaction in your intestines, or a mind thing? You feel better, does it matter how you got there? I feel you have a daignosis. I was dx'd on blood test alone, didn't even want to do...
  8. mmm.. they sound good. Why don't you make me some and bring them over here As of right now, we have no grill. And part of the excitement is that there is someplace I can eat at without cooking. I hate cooking! Half the time no time to cook, other half no space to cook. mmm.. wings.
  9. I know there is also a Giant in Green Ridge Plaza where AMES used to be. I personally love Shiff's you can't get everything, but what you get is good. Giant is totally overloaded in HBG, Mechanicsburg had 2 then of course the "Super Store" in Camp Hill. Thanks for the traffic info, tonight i will be getting on 80 at hazelton to get to my parents though...
  10. Yeah casien is annoying... I was using Coffee mate it was labeled as "dairy free" and "lactose-fee"! So today as I was sitting at work I was reading it just becasue I was bored, it has Sodium Casienate in it! Grr.. I know I haven't been reacting to it, I only use 1 tsp once a day, but it's annyoing because it said DAIRY free! I know I don't like the rice...
  11. I thought about my Celiac as a "starvation" problem. My body wasn't getting all the nutrients and all that, so it started to store what ever it could get it's hands on, and not let go! Now i'm gluten-free it's still not letting go, but I have also started eating alot fattier and bad (chocolate!) foods. Could be....
  12. You have to be sure that all lotions, shampoos, condtioner and makeup is gluten free. Many people get rashes, have hair fall out, and get digestive problems from these products. When I use shampoo with "wheat protiens" my hair falls out. If I use lotion with Oats, I get water blisters on my skin. Often times people don't know about this and they continue...
  13. I haven't been to St. Ubaldo's in years. Wasn't the most exciting in my opinon, but I was a teen then, and i'm not catholic. Have you ever been to the GDS Fair? That's right in my home town. I enter Photos and sometimes baked goods in it. Never Did Wayne County fair, though I visit it every year! It's getting to be fair season! First fair season with...
  14. Nope, I'm going back up home for the holiday. Do some Grocery Shopping at Wegmans, check out the New shoppes at Montage, maybe even check out a Yankee game. I hate how Harrisburg has these neat festivals on holiday weekends when I go home to see my parents! Oh well...! I love these wings, so crispy! There is a harrisburg location on Paxton St, but I...
  15. Man that sucks so much! I am new to gluten-free, so I am aware that I may get more sensitive as I stay gluten-free longer. I am finding more and more sensitivites... err. Well I'll see how it is next week, i'm hoping for good times.
  16. Yay for marriage and Yay for Locals! Have you ever eaten at Passage to India? I'm going there next week to broaden my eating out horizons. I am such a bad cook, and have a very small kitchen, so I need eating out options!
  17. As far as I know, there is not different levels of gluten-free, you either eat gluten, or you can't. Where are they getting thier info from?
  18. I am offically psyched! I just had my fave wings from the The Wing Co in Camp Hill Pa. I went in today and talked with the girl at the counter and the cook. For those who have never been there, it's a tiny little hut, and they do mostly wings, with very vew other things. They have four dedicated fryers to just wings (tenders and onion rings are done in a...
  19. I really hope I get to the point you are. I have only been dx's for 2 mo, and eating gluten-free for a little less. To me it seems to overtake my entire life. I am constantly worrying about what I'm eating, what I can't eat, what am I reacting to now? Grrr... I would love to just for a day eat without thinking! Thanks for giving me hope.
  20. My nickname is an existng one I used on other sites. The first time I used it, I was depressed and felt like I ruined every one's good time. So I tried SunnyDayRain, but that was taken so I took SunnyDyRain.
  21. The pepto might help with the digestive symtoms, like D and gas, but I doubt it would do much to help with villi blunting. I would only use it if you think you just ate something, not to use it as "I can eat gluten...i'll just take pepto!

    ARCHIVED Blisters

Wow, this is the first I've heard of DH being blister like, but i never really looked before... didn't think I had it. I often get tiny pimple like blisters when I eat gluten. They are often small and around my moutn and go away in about 2 days. Thye hurt like mo fo though. Cool, i learn something new every day!
  23. Don't let IUD's scare you away. They are much safer today than they used to be! Many many women are happy and healthy with IUD's both Copper and Hormonal types. As far as condoms go, you can use polyuratane condoms or if you are monogomous and can deal with the idea... sheepskin condoms. Sheepskin do not protect against STD's but are effective against...
  24. Ok, so it's summertime again and I need to start going tanning, and I'm wondering if there is any other tanners in the gluten-free world and if they know of any gluten-free tanning lotions. I LOVE my TAO by Designer Skin, but not sure if it is ok. I sent an e-mail, but I haven't heard back yet. Anyone? Oh, to clarify, I'm talking about lotions to...
