  1. I've always associated 'Bannock Bread' with scotland but it seems that variations of this ancient Celtic bread are know the world over. Open Original Shared Link
  2. It seems they are available everywhere in the UK but not in the USA. Here's a USA news video about Tosta Bags in this example it's making grilled cheese in the toaster, but as you can see it would be excellent for Gluten Free bread in a shared toaster. Open Original Shared Link
  3. Some but not all candy manufacturers dust their conveyor belts with flour (wheat ?) to stop the candies sticking, likewise jellies are coated in flour for the same reason though most jelly manufacturers use corn or maize starch. So if you've been tucking into the jelly candies and feel a bit 'iffy' then there's the culprit.
  4. This may help, there are 1 Million dots in the following and each small square contains 100 dots. Open Original Shared Link
  5. Mea Culpa, of course you're correct. You haven't questioned my logic, so I assume that part makes sense.
  6. All grains have the capacity of cross-contamination, at harvest, in processing or packing. Grains that are certified gluten free are far more expensive because of the cost of testing at all the various stages. Depending on your sensitivity, you may or may not show an outward sign of a reaction, but it's what's happening inside that counts. People...
  7. Gaga also allegedly indulges on gluten-free cookies when her sweet tooth hits. With the high concentration of fats and sugars is that not defeating her objective ?? why not eat fresh fruit if she needs a sugar rush ??
  8. Have you been assessed as Casein allergic, most Celiacs when they are first diagnosed need to avoid dairy because the damaged 'villi' can't handle lactose (the sugar in milk) as opposed to Casein which is the protein in milk ?
  9. First thoughts are was the food you recieved in the hospital completely Gluten Free ? Is their kitchen aware of cross-contamination and the possible effects on Coeliacs. Gluten withdrawl is very real. Open Original Shared Link
  10. Not sure how old you are, I've had serveral follow up procedures. 1st one after 12 months gluten-free showed villi were nearly fully healed (I stuck rigidly to a Gluten Free Diet and only used foods recommended at less than 20PPM by the Irish Coeliac Society). They did however find a large polyp (Adenoma) in my lower bowel people over 50 are more susceptible...
  11. What specially produced Gluten Free Products do you consume ?? Have you ever asked any manufacturer of Gluten Free products what level do the test to ?? Where the New Gluten Free level is <20PPM means an upper limit, in actual fact most of the Gluten Free products test to between 3PPM and 10PPM, the <20PPM was set to accomodate a small level of...
  12. KILLER CRAVINGS! (All cravings not just Gluten) . Addictive substances cause the body to become dependent on an unnatural substance for homeostatic balance. . Removing it causes withdrawals. . During withdrawal, the addict suffers through the painful readjustment as the body cries out for the missing substance. In a desperate attempt to maintain...
  13. Dr Charles Parker's Celiac Notes. . Opiate withdrawal from discontinuing gluten and casein? Cautionary note: sounds absurd until you see it. . You might want to warn gluten sensitive, celiac and casein sensitive patients about this odd and painful clinical phenomenon: Withdrawal after stopping wheat or milk products can be painful, exhausting...
  14. Within 6 hrs of Gluten ingestion I get projectile vomiting followed by at least 24hrs of diarrhoea and chronic fatigue (depending on how bad the glutening was).
  15. As a general rule Celiacs are advised to avoid Gluten Free Oats until their Villi have healed, this can take anything up to 2 yrs to complete. If the villi are healed (no longer flattened) then it's suggested to initially restrict yourself to 50g per week. (this includes oatmeal, cookies that may contain Gluten Free Oat Flour, or Oat Cakes). 3 heaped...
  16. When I make my Banana bread it's Gluten and Dairy Free, I use 4 tbls of Vegetable oil in mine instead of dairy fats and add 2 tsp of Gluten Free Baking Powder, but my ingredients would be totally different to any standard recipe for gluten free banana bread.

  18. Wondering because, Facebook although a social network, their pages can also be used in a business sense. I have several, mostly interaction sites with other users, but taking it a step further a Gluten Free supplier could have a facebook page with products mentioned, free advertising !!!!! My own take would be that it possibly falls within the rule...
  19. Just curious can one link to their facebook page (in off topic of course) or is that in contravention of the self promotion rule ????
  20. From January 2012 the world have adopted a unified description for Certified Gluten Free the finished product must be less <20PPM, in most cases their products are probably testing <5PPM but a certain margain of error has to be allowed hence the <20PPM setting. Heretofore, Gluten free was anything less than <200PPM and most products that claimed...

  23. This is taken from The Irish Coeliac Messageboard and is a true story, believe it or not! Quote: I was in College a while back, and was standing in line at the dreaded food counter, waiting to hear that inevitable question that all Coeliacs must endure "what would you like." Ahead of me was a fellow student, and he turned to question me, "So, what...

  25. I don't want to go on about one religion - V - another. I don't believe that receiving the host/wine at mass makes you a good catholic. Abiding by the teachings of your church (and he's the important bit) to the best of your ability, makes you a good catholic/christian etc. There are catholics suffering with throat cancer that can't partake in communion...
