irish daveyboy replied to anewlife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It seems they are available everywhere in the UK but not in the USA. Here's a USA news video about Tosta Bags in this example it's making grilled cheese in the toaster, but as you can see it would be excellent for Gluten Free bread in a shared toaster. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination Questions
irish daveyboy replied to amy31's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some but not all candy manufacturers dust their conveyor belts with flour (wheat ?) to stop the candies sticking, likewise jellies are coated in flour for the same reason though most jelly manufacturers use corn or maize starch. So if you've been tucking into the jelly candies and feel a bit 'iffy' then there's the culprit. -

ARCHIVED Do Grains Have To Be "certified Gluten-Free"?
irish daveyboy replied to Minette's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All grains have the capacity of cross-contamination, at harvest, in processing or packing. Grains that are certified gluten free are far more expensive because of the cost of testing at all the various stages. Depending on your sensitivity, you may or may not show an outward sign of a reaction, but it's what's happening inside that counts. People... -

Have you been assessed as Casein allergic, most Celiacs when they are first diagnosed need to avoid dairy because the damaged 'villi' can't handle lactose (the sugar in milk) as opposed to Casein which is the protein in milk ? -

ARCHIVED Should I Be Scoped Again After 1 Year gluten-free?
irish daveyboy replied to BabsV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not sure how old you are, I've had serveral follow up procedures. 1st one after 12 months gluten-free showed villi were nearly fully healed (I stuck rigidly to a Gluten Free Diet and only used foods recommended at less than 20PPM by the Irish Coeliac Society). They did however find a large polyp (Adenoma) in my lower bowel people over 50 are more susceptible... -

irish daveyboy replied to kaygato's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As a general rule Celiacs are advised to avoid Gluten Free Oats until their Villi have healed, this can take anything up to 2 yrs to complete. If the villi are healed (no longer flattened) then it's suggested to initially restrict yourself to 50g per week. (this includes oatmeal, cookies that may contain Gluten Free Oat Flour, or Oat Cakes). 3 heaped... -

When I make my Banana bread it's Gluten and Dairy Free, I use 4 tbls of Vegetable oil in mine instead of dairy fats and add 2 tsp of Gluten Free Baking Powder, but my ingredients would be totally different to any standard recipe for gluten free banana bread. -

ARCHIVED Facebook - Can I Link To It ?
irish daveyboy replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Wondering because, Facebook although a social network, their pages can also be used in a business sense. I have several, mostly interaction sites with other users, but taking it a step further a Gluten Free supplier could have a facebook page with products mentioned, free advertising !!!!! My own take would be that it possibly falls within the rule... -
Just curious can one link to their facebook page (in off topic of course) or is that in contravention of the self promotion rule ????

This is taken from The Irish Coeliac Messageboard and is a true story, believe it or not! ARCHIVED Any Self-Diagnosed Catholics?
irish daveyboy replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't want to go on about one religion - V - another. I don't believe that receiving the host/wine at mass makes you a good catholic. Abiding by the teachings of your church (and he's the important bit) to the best of your ability, makes you a good catholic/christian etc. There are catholics suffering with throat cancer that can't partake in communion...
