  1. Both iron and b-12 anemia will cause this kind of itching. I had this terribly for YEARS. I lived near the ocean and people told me crazy stories about sea lice. But I still had it when I moved inland. It didn't resolve until I got my iron and b-12 up. I don't think it's DH--at least mine wasn't. There wasn't any real rash, just an unbearable itching...
  2. How's your b-12?
  3. I always suspected my mother and grandmother had it. My mother had a stroke about 15 years ago, and about 10 years ago was put on tube feeding exclusively. The formula they use is gluten-free. Within two weeks her gut was gone and flatter than I ever remember even though she was never overweight. It's sad really, because she was a difficult person due...
  4. BTDT---it will pass. It's hard now, but you'll forget what it means to be too exhausted to drive. My hardest baby is now my most delightful teen. My easiest baby is now a very challenging tween. You know in some cultures a woman would just be reentering society. Here we expect women to be back to a 60 hr week at 7 weeks. Take care of you and your...
  5. If not celiac, then what? No one is perfect. When you agree to have a child, you get what you get for the most part. And even if they come out perfect at the beginning, it doesn't mean they won't get meningitis at three and be brain damaged. Does that sound mean? I don't mean it that way, but agreeing to be a parent means putting aside your own expectations...
  6. B-12 is a water soluble, so don't worry about taking too much. It can take a while to build up your stores if you haven't been absorbing it. Most drs order a loading dose-- a shot once a day for a week, once a week for a month, then once a month--something like that is how I did it. I take shot once a month now. If you can learn to give it yourself or...
  7. Nope, and my serum is well above the recommended level to treat it. When I had a sleep study, I moved my legs 30 times an hour on average. The only thing that quiets them is if I spend the day up and down stairs or a ladder. I would like it to stop, but I have balance issues already, so no neurotin for me.
  8. I don't know if this is true of every WM, but ours don't bake anything. The cakes come in frozen and the bakery breads are brought in. There might be a crumb issue if she decorates cakes, I guess.
  9. Take some time to care for yourself. Let yourself mourn the loss so you can move on cleanly. Hugs to you!
  10. I had a similar situation and it was gastritis from my iron supplements and my gallbladder. When I had my gallbladder out, it improved by 80%. The gastritis took much longer to heal. BTW, I didn't have any of the otherwise typical gallbladder symptoms. They found it on a barium swallow. It might be a good idea to see the dr before you make any drastic...
  11. Hmm, that's not my experience with that cake mix at all, and I am also from the south. I found it to be moist and tender and not so grainy. It does require quite a bit of butter, but it is cake after all.
  12. Just mix up those two or three to make a cup. You might put in a 1/2 teaspoon of xan. gum if you have it, but I don't think that's necessary for cornbread. I would think polenta could be subbed. It is sometimes more finely ground so it might make a cakier bread.
  13. I make two pizzas once a week, so I've made quite a few! That is a good recipe that was posted. You can also check out David's on here as well. The number one thing I've found that really improves the dough is refrigerating it at least a few hours. It loses a lot of that stickiness and rises better. I spray my pan with Pam olive oil and then...
  14. Roda is right. You can gargle with a little mylanta or pepto bismol to soothe it a bit.
  15. What WheatChef said is correct. You describe symptoms of intolerance, not allergy. You find some people on here who started with intolerance and were eventually diagnosed with celiac. Beer is something I miss for sure, but I think you are playing with fire if you keep drinking it.
  16. I just mailed the script off this am. I think I'll double check with her before I start it. It's funny. I've been asking for a bone scan since I was diagnosed, but they keep refusing because they say insurance won't pay. And to think they told me "just don't eat gluten and everything will be fine."
  17. I just had mine checked, and it was 15.7 (32-100). The dr ordered 50,000 IU three times a week for the next six months. That seems like a lot in comparison to some of you.
  18. Texas is a great state! Each region is very different. There are no celiac specialists here for most of us. In the US, celiac is considered a gastrointestinal disease. There are celiac centers in New York and Chicago. It would be up to you to find a savvy pediatrician in your area. Your best bet would be to call your local children's hospital. He...
  19. What Karen said. Talk to your priest, it's good to let him know you're out there. Making your own isn't an option for Catholics.
  20. Wow. Like I said before, I'm not a litigious person by nature, BUT I would get lawyered up and have ANOTHER meeting with the school. They have a written policy in place which led you to believe your daughter would be safe. They KNOWINGLY broke this policy and put your child at risk. And it wasn't the action of one teacher, but an accepted practice...
  21. Hang in there! You are forging a path and that can be tough. Your daughter must be so proud of you! Let us know how it goes. Sending strength and courage your way.
  22. I do what Kareng does. We always sit up front--second or third pew--to avoid the cc problem. The chalice with the Precious Body ALMOST always goes to the other side. When it does come to my side, I stay in the pew for Spiritual Communion. Remember, we aren't required to receive each week, only to celebrate the Mass. There should be a coordinator...
  23. The breadsticks were crunchy, chewy and so light. I had a panini with sopresata, house-made mozzarella, and arugula. DELICIOUS!! And to finish, tiramisu cake! Oh, it was so lovely and scrumptious. I brought home their version of Twinkies and Oreo cakesters for the kids and they loved them. I brought home the pizza dough mix so I can try to make the...
  24. I'm wondering if any of you have bought this yet. It's at Kroger, Publix, and another one I can't remember. I contacted the company and it's baked outside of Atlanta and will only be there for now. It's a fresh product, not frozen. I'm curious to see how it is as I get to Atlanta if I have a good enough reason.
  25. I've read some articles about this being more common in celiac patients. I have iron-deficiency anemia that has been very resistant to treatment and a return of neuro problems despite a strict gluten-free diet. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this? I'm seeing my gp next week and I'm going to ask for the test.
