Welcome I know what you mean, I do a lot of cooking and playing around with recipes because I basically have to cook mostly from scratch all the time. For example, tonight I am making 4, 6-inch gluten free pizzas. I'm eating one tonight and freezing the rest to eat during the week. If you would like recipes or meal ideas, I would love to help....

ARCHIVED gluten-free Worcestershire Sauce
Carriefaith replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I looked at Sobeys and couldn't find it I'm going to check Walmart and Superstore. Hopefully I can find it somewhere. I have a great recipe that uses worcestershire sauce and I haven't been able to make it since I started the diet because I can't find a gluten free worcestershire sauce. -

ARCHIVED Gluten&dairy Free Chocolate
Carriefaith replied to Rae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dairy contamination may be the source of the problem then. I can get sick from dairy contamination with lays STAX regular chips. -
ARCHIVED How To Get Started?
Carriefaith replied to smjohn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think that using the same pots and pans is fine as long as you clean them really well. I personally don't use pans that have scratches in them, unless the pan was only used for gluten free cooking. -
ARCHIVED Got My Genetic Results
Carriefaith replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would guess that both of your parents may have carried the gene since you have two copies, but I don't think that all of your kids would have it unless you know if the father of the children has the gene. If the father doesn't have the genes than I believe the chances of your kids getting the genes would depend if the genes are dominant or recessive. If... -
ARCHIVED Weird "reaction"?
Carriefaith replied to discountshopper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also never had a reaction on my skin before I went gluten free. After a while on the diet, I started getting chicken pox like bumps on my skin after I had an accident. At first I thought I had the mumps or measles since I already had the chicken pox, but I eventually figured it out Within 12-24 hours of ingesting gluten, I get bumps on my skin, which... -
ARCHIVED How To Get Started?
Carriefaith replied to smjohn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Making sandwiches, pasta, or toast should be fine; however, I wouldn't recommend baking with wheat/rye/barely flour. I can get reactions from inhaling flour. -
ARCHIVED Gluten&dairy Free Chocolate
Carriefaith replied to Rae's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does it state anywhere on the package that the product may contain traces of milk? Or this product was processes in a facility that also uses wheat and dairy? I've learned the hard way that you cannot always trust companies that put gluten free or dairy free right on the label. Maybe you could e-mail or call and ask them if there is any chance of cross-contamination... -
ARCHIVED How To Get Started?
Carriefaith replied to smjohn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
One of the first things I did was buy gluten free cookbooks. These books have great recipes and are very useful. Gluten free products lists are also very useful. Here are a few: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-29105457116.1c I have a few more lists and if you are interested, I can e-mail them to you. -
ARCHIVED Food Rant....
Carriefaith replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know... I am also annoyed by this, since I have been contaminated by at least one or two companies that have gluten free on the package. My worst gluten contamination ever was from Bob's Red Mill Flaxseed, which had gluten free on the label. I learned later on their website that they continously detect gluten in all their gluten free products. Go Figure -
ARCHIVED Celiac Newbie
Carriefaith replied to jrbeek24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you go gluten free before getting your tests done, they could come back false negative. You must be consuming gluten in order for the tests to be accurate. If you do end up having celiac disease, don't hesitate to ask for meal ideas, recipes, and gluten free product lists. -
ARCHIVED When Did It Start?
Carriefaith replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I started having "issues" in juinior high, but I didn't start getting extremely sick until I was 22. I think it was the stress from writing my ungergraduate thesis and trying to do well in all my courses that really set it off. That was a very stressful time in my life. -

ARCHIVED Severity Of Reactions
Carriefaith replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For some people the reaction to gluten gets worse and for others it doesn't. I think the reactions to gluten depend on the person. My reactions got way worse and I even developed new symptoms having going gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Would A Colonoscopy Show Cd?
Carriefaith replied to CMCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If they go far enough, they can get biopsies of the small intestine during a colonoscopy; however, the biopsies are at the end of the small intestine where there would probably be little villi damage. Villi damage usually occurs near the first part of the small intestine and an endoscopy is the best procedure to obtain a biopsy of this region. -

ARCHIVED What's In Ground Beef?

ARCHIVED Please Help Asap !
Carriefaith replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The butter is casein free but just double check ingredients to make sure (sometimes companies can change ingredients). And it does taste like butter! I buy Earth Balance butter in the health food section of my local grocery store. -
ARCHIVED What's In Ground Beef?
Carriefaith replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree we really could find something wrong with everything we put into our mouths. Meat and dairy products can contain hormones... Vegetables and fruits can be contaminated with fecal coliforms and have pesticide residues. And yes, organic food is not completely safe from these things. Organic farmers will use certain pesticides on their crops (I learned...
