They don't always itch. Some seem to itch when they first break out and then the itching seems to go away. -
ARCHIVED Toddler Has Presitant And Spreading Rash?
Carriefaith replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I never had a skin reaction to gluten until after I started the diet and got glutened. If I have the slightest amount of gluten, I will get skin break-outs. They are mosquito/chicken pox like bumps which are usually itchy and they sometimes form a rash. I'm not sure if it is DH which is celiac related or if it is a wheat allergy reaction. Thankfully I've... -
ARCHIVED Butterball Turkey Has Modified Food Starch!
Carriefaith replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a source that says their fresh turkey's are gluten-free but their gravy is not. I am annoyed at butterball, I e-mailed them to see if their turkey hotdogs are gluten free and they never e-mailed me back -
ARCHIVED Flu Shot
Carriefaith replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah, you definately don't want to get it if you are allergic. There are other things you can do to help prevent getting the flu such as, frequent hand washing, not touching your face, using papertowel or toilet paper to turn of taps in public washrooms. -
That is the best description yet! I can so relate. lol.

When I have brain fog I feel impaired, like I am being partially sedated or something. I also get really stupid and forgetful. And I feel like I am in "LaLa land". Hopefully someone can relate to that

ARCHIVED Flu Shot
Carriefaith replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also think it important to get one every year as well I hate getting the flu anyway, but it would be even worse if I had a gluten reaction and the flu at the same time. However, I think that this year is especially important to get a flu shot because of the threat of avain flu. Although the flu shot would not protect against the avian flu, it should stop... -
ARCHIVED Candy Canes
Carriefaith replied to lorka150's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's a good question I would like to know that as well. -
I would guess that this means that a fungal disease is infecting the wheat and that researchers have to continually "upgrade" the pesticides or in this case make another genetically modified strain to prevent fungal resistance. Fungal pathogens and insects can evolve to resist pesticides and I'm assuming they can do the same for genetically modified plants...

ARCHIVED Igg And Iga Tests
Carriefaith replied to giraffelover's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The anti gliadin IGA seems high if the normal range is low. Celiac disease is genetic so if her grandmother had it then she could have passed it on. The best blood test for celiac in my opinion is the Tissue Transglutamase Test (tTg). However, it does not work well in individuals with an IGA deficiency. Getting multiple biopsies of the small intestine is... -

ARCHIVED How Do You Cope W/ The Fatigue?
Carriefaith replied to Jenn2005's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I struggled with fatigue for a very long time, about 1 year into the gluten free diet. I am doing much better now though. Vitamins should help and try getting them from natural sources or in liquid form. Also, try to avoid caffeine. -
How about, "The effects of gluten on the brain". I think this would be a very interesting topic.

ARCHIVED ? About Rast And Reaction To Wheat
Carriefaith replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Was he tested for celiac disease while he was on the gluten free diet? Being on the gluten free diet can result in false negative results on tests. Yes, a very small amount of gluten can trigger symptoms. -

ARCHIVED Bloating/gas
Carriefaith replied to Hall100's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Everyone is different and some people may feel better within a few weeks and others may not feel better until 1-2 years. I think feeling better depends on the extent of the damage done in the intestione. I did not start to feel somewhat better on the gluten free diet until 5-6 months into the diet. And all my symptoms started clearing up after 1 year on the... -

ARCHIVED We Both Know I Am Getting Glutenated... Advice?
Carriefaith replied to glutenkiddies's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You must go 100% gluten free. Your body won't heal until all the gluten is gone, even the crumbs. Your more than usual hair loss will stop and you will gain weight once you eliminate all gluten. I was having hair loss and weight loss problems before I started the gluten-free diet, but within a few months all this cleared up. I suggest not eating out if... -
