  1. Open Original Shared Link There is a pdf on this page about bell's palsy of the gut in lyme disease. Amazing reading. Talks about how celiac disease can be mimicked.
  2. Yeah, it is frustrating to not be able to do what we want and think we should be able to do energy wise. That along with the down feelings when we are physically low has got me being reflective today. For a class with my group of trainees this month, I am reading A Grace Disguised: How the soul grows through loss by Gerald Sittser. I've just gotten...
  3. I'm in NE China, Liaoning Province mostly. I pretty much carry all my food with me, other than getting a bowl of rice. I am gluten-free and SF, and am now just re-introducing small amounts of dairy. I travel about 50% of the time. I agree about not being home-bound, however, for a sensitive celiac, China is NOT easy. CC issues are extremely challenging...
  4. Julie, I want to add my voice of encouragement to what you've been already given. I also understand that sense of not caring about stuff around. For me it seems like more a lack of energy to care or give things attention; as soon as I feel a little better physically my "caring" comes right back to normal. Your recent flare has got to be discouraging...
  5. Jane, my MD who I see for treatment of lyme disease said he and his partners have found the Enterolab testing very useful. In his practice he treats a lot of autistic kids. His practice does tend to be more non-traditional though. What he told me was that he had sent a lot of patients in for biopsies, and NOT EVEN ONE had come back with a positive. ...
  6. I have found that I can't over-rise the bread. Like when I make Lorka's flax bread recipe (wonderful by the way), the dough fills my pan over 3/4 of the way, and I just raise it to the top of the pan and then bake. When I let it rise longer in hopes for taller bread, it fell. You can also try slightly cutting back the liquid to see if it helps. Also...
  7. Thanks, Lisa. I appreciate your input. My main worry is that there might be another cause to the malabsorption (like lyme disease which I also have and can also cause dysbiosis) and that I am not catching it. I have been careful and diligent with the diet, and yes there has been a huge learning curve. I only have a baseline for the fat malabsorption...
  8. I'm 11 months GFSF and was CF until just recently, now tolerating small amounts of milk. Fat malabsorption was severe a year ago, now normal (via Enterolab). However, lots of vitamin, minerals and amino acids are very very low. Has anyone else had this issue and has it eventually resolved (like after 2 years of healing)? If yours has resolved, what...
  9. I'm bumping up this thread to see if anyone can add any further insights. After 11 months gluten-free, my vitamins, minerals and amino acids are quite low (not all but many of them), although my fat malabsorption test is now normal (Enterolab). I am taking tons of supplements but am worried that I won't absorb those either.
  10. Donna, this illness is worrisome. Hope there isn't a relapse just when you are at the point of moving forward with some chelation.
  11. TS. glad for the update. I'll be surprised if you don't show some coinfections. What would the high DHEA be from? Sherry
  12. Hi Katy, I am taking prescription digestive enzymes that are quite strong, the current ones are called pangestyme UL20. My doctor just added another set of enzymes called Carb Digest which is by Kirkman, because I needed more help with digesting carbs. These do help me quite a lot. Sherry
  13. I think there are a few procedures where this is standard practice, maybe there is more risk of infection involved. I vaguely remember something about that. My FIL has to have antibiotics for every dental work he has done because he is immune compromised due to being a post transplant patient. Sherry
  14. Rachel, doesn't Amy do this? Dr. E tested me in January with ASYRA and the phenols came up, she gave me a homeopathic remedy for it; it must have held because they didn't come up in the March testing and I am no longer taking the homeopathic. I didn't ask her about it specifically though. Sherry
  15. Quick note...I've been in transition so have been offline and am behind in reading...but have just arrived back safely in China and will catch up gradually. I am happy to have help with the cooking again. My housekeeper was at home when I arrived, with some lamb roasted and ready. It was delicious--its the same price as beef here. My ART testing said...
  16. Hello, I am living in NE China and am gluten-free. Yes is is quite challenging. You've found the right section of the forum, do a search for China and you'll find a number of posts. Are you dealing with celiac disease or a wheat allergy? If a wheat allergy, what degree of strictness is required for your husband (this varies from person to person)? ...
  17. I have read a number of references to this very thing here on the forum, and my experience seems to be that as well. You might search the forum about it.
  18. Not sure what gliactin is. Sounds like the test was for allergy which is different than celiac--the mechanisms in the body are totally different. You could have a wheat/gluten allergy, or celiac or both. The first degree diagnosed relative plus improvement after going gluten-free seems indicative. It wouldn't be useful to do further celiac testing because...
  19. My caution would be that Enterolab does not diagnose celiac. Gluten sensitivity can be caused by other things besides celiac, and could be temporary or not depending on the cause. So I think it is wise to keep that in mind, especially if the gluten-free does not result in a complete resolution of your health concerns. There are some on the board who have...
  20. Added to the food sensitivity issues could be some other possible issues. I wonder about candidida--whether carbohydrates cause flares but not really from allergies. Also various things can cause leaky gut syndrome, which leads to increased food sensitivities. Also, you might also check out the lyme disease thread on this forum, which has an extensive...
  21. That's true. You might try keeping a food diary to see if you can trace things, and perhaps an elimination diet if you don't improve. My sensitivity to gluten is increasing as well. I started out not really being aware if I got gluten. It is becoming clearer and clearer.
  22. Good point, Kassandra. I've had ART, and now that I think about it, I don't know how to say it either!
  23. Rachel this is exciting and excellent, and maybe those great minds and their answers will spill over to the rest of us! Sherry
  24. Miss you, Donna. Hope you are much better soon. Spring inhalent allergies??? At least I am getting that a bit. Rachel, that's good news and encouraging, look forward to more details. Sherry
  25. Julie, sure hope this does provide and answer. I will be interested in what you find out.
