ARCHIVED Green Mountain Gringo Salsa
terri posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hello, This morning my DH made breakfast of eggs, frozen chopped green peppers and frozen chopped onions, Whole Foods shredded cheddar and jack blend and mission tortillas with a brand new bottle of Green Mountain Salsa. Now, all the other ingredients were opened and had been already partially eaten. I got terribly sick and still am. I went on Green Mountain... -
I just had a bone density test and was informed I have scoliosis! My latest yoga teacher noticed it right off the bat too. Interesting that I can go over 50 years never knowing that I have it then suddenly within a month two people point it out to me! A connection to Celiac? Who knows? "They" say a high forehead is a connection too! I keep finding I have...

ARCHIVED Potato Chips Plus
terri replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I picked up a bag of UTZ Natural tortilla chips and they had a statement on the back that said they were produced in a plant that also uses wheat in their products. So, I picked up a bag of their white corn tortilla chips and the warning wasn't on there. I bought them. When I got home I looked at my bag of UTZ Natural Kettle potato chips ( I had inquired... -
I just returned from a business trip to Atlanta and had WONDERFUL meals at Rathbuns, Trader Vics and Citiclub. I did alert Rathbuns and Trader Vics that I would be coming, but the Citiclub was totally unaware. In fact, I was their first Celiac and they were very interested and asked for lots of information. I will be returning in April for 10 days and am...

We're going away for Thanksgiving to my husband's cousin's house. She is worried sick about cooking something I can eat. I keep telling her not to worry, she doesn't stuff her bird, I'll have turkey and green beans, but I feel awful, like I've already ruined her day.

Okay, I've been gluten-free for a year and a half and feel I have a handle on things. However, going away with our friends to their lake house this weekend has me worried. I don't feel right inspecting their kitchen, cutting boards, pots and pans, dishwashing liquid, etc. On the other hand, this is my health involved and I don't want to get sick! And, there...

ARCHIVED Bacon?
terri replied to mdono's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for that website! When I clicked on eat at the top it took me to a page where they list all kinds of food. I clicked on eggplant and it gave colored pictures, descriptions, and properties of the eggplant as well as recipes to cook them. They do that for all the listings. -
You probably don't want to hear this, but EXERCISE! That will start the downward spiral with your weight again. And make sure you eat breakfast. If you don't, your body stays in sleep mode and you don't burn very many calories. Once you eat, your metabolism perks up and starts burning fuel. Try to eat mainly complex carbohydrates ( brown rice, quinoa, amaranth...

ARCHIVED Bacon?
terri replied to mdono's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kirkland maple flavored bacon has gluten also. I tend to buy the uncured bacon as nitrates can cause stomach cancer and I feel I have enough going on in my tummy without adding nitrates! So, I get uncured bacon, ham and hot dogs. I love the Wellshire Farms peppered uncured bacon. Wellshire farms puts a smart shopper label on all their products with gluten... -
ARCHIVED Going On A Cruise Saturday!
terri replied to LqrMan's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I chose my meals the day before. That way if I chose to eat on the Lido deck or in my stateroom all I needed to do was to find a head steward and tell him I wanted the gluten free meal from table 76. He would then bring it to wherever I was. I did not eat off of the buffet as I am one of those who avoid salad bars and buffets due to possible cross contamination... -
ARCHIVED Going On A Cruise Saturday!
terri replied to LqrMan's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I just came back from a cruise on Holland America lines and it was fantastic. About 2 months before I cruised I filled out their form stating how many english muffins, pizzas, bagels, bread, cookies, cakes, etc. etc., I would need EACH DAY and they ordered it all from Kinninick at no cost to me. Then every day I would choose my breakfast, lunch and dinner... -
I turn off the radio but I still hear them talking, singing, whatever. Also I'll hear the tv on downstairs and go check but it's not on. And it's not a whine, but voices... I know, now you'll say I'm "hearing voices". Well at least they're not in my head! Just in my house!

ARCHIVED Introduction Of All New Grains To Our Bodies
terri replied to BamBam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I read somewhere that guar gum and xanthium gum are not digestable. Has anyone else read that? And isn't tapioca something of a laxative too? Maybe that's why we still have issues. There are too many days when I have 6 or 7 bowel movements and to my mind, there should be only one... -
I have been gluten-free for a year and a half and still have bouts of horrible day long gas attacks with belching and curious stools. I keep reminding myself that the older we are when diagnosed, the longer it will take to heal. I'm probably looking at another year to heal I also read where the average person farts 23 times a day! So, maybe we should realize...

I had my tonsils out at 3 and my appendectomy at 16, both before diagnosis.

Great news! Thanks for checking!! -
I eat out when I travel and when something is going on at work. For example today we took my boss out for his birthday. In deference to my needs we went to Legal Seafood where I ordered gluten-free calamari and cajun scallops and broccoli. I ended up going home early from work and am sitting here miserable. My husband said "but you can't be sick! you ate...

I worry about when they put the food out. Do they grab the croutons and put them in the container and then grab the lettuce? How about when they chopped the stuff? Did they use the same knife for the cucumbers that had already cut the croutons? Did they use the same cutting board? There are so many ways a salad bar can get contaminated that I feel it is a...

ARCHIVED Looking For "all Natural/chemical Free" Products
terri replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All of Lady Primrose products are gluten free. www.ladyprimrose.com Their lotion is wonderful. I have terrible eczema and this is the only one I've found that works. Pricey though. I did verify with them that their products are gluten-free. They make shampoos and conditioners and bath gels, almost anything you can think of. And, I got the acquarella... -
Sure, there are dining cards. You can find many that are free and you can laminate, or buy the ones I found work best. They are triumph dining cards and they have them for every kind of ethnic food you can think of. They are written in the language that applies, for example, the thai card is written on one side in English and the other side in thai and targets...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free?
terri replied to YankeeDB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have 4 bags of Mrs Mays. Two are small and say gluten free and wheat free, two are big and only say wheat free. When I went on her website, all were listed as gluten free and wheat free. Scott sells them at the gluten free mall and lists them as gluten free and wheat free. I believe them to be fine. -
I ate there in New Orleans. One of my most fondly remembered meals. They were very helpful and made me a salad with poached salmon on top and then steamed vegetables on top of the salmon. All mixed in with the lettuce. It may sound wierd but the flavor was great and I loved it. It was one of those times when I gave the server my card, who got the manager...

ARCHIVED New Member Here....hello Everyone!
terri replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like you have some of the symptoms for sure. I have the same problems with the cold hands or they turn bright red! The gerd is a definite forerunner and the mood swings are also indicative. Blood tests can be negative and you can still have the disease. Try the diet for two weeks and see how you feel. If you feel better than stick with it! That... -
The Chicken Bryan is awesome! And, all their wait staff is trained in Celiac awareness. It's a wonderful place to eat!!! ( Just don't look at the other tables with their bowls of pasta and plates of garlic bread! ) I have brought my own bread and they will give me my own plate of oil and stuff to dip it in.
