ARCHIVED Ttg-Iga, Celiac Panel V. gluten-free Oats
ravenwoodglass replied to 006's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can be hard if you don't get obvious symptoms. Since you had positive blood work and that is now in normal levels you may be fine. But if you are still concerned you may want to switch to a different cooked cereal and see if you gain the weight back. Cream of Buckwheat is a good hot cereal and Pocono brand has no chance of CC. -
ARCHIVED How Long Undetected?
ravenwoodglass replied to 006's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It was easy for me to figure out since I developed DH in childhood. For many of us it is going to be hard to figure out since the disease process can be rather insideous. Try not to be too concerned about the cancer issue. Your chances of having cancer related to undiagnosed celiac decrease to normal levels once you are gluten free for a couple years. If... -
ARCHIVED Saw My (Reg) Doc Today
ravenwoodglass replied to okieinalaska's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Great to hear that things went well with your doctor. Please be aware that if you are going for an endo at the end of January you need to keep eating gluten until then. If the endo is not for diagnosis of celiac then you can go ahead and start the diet but the diet will cause a false negative on celiac testing. -
ARCHIVED Help
ravenwoodglass replied to mmedic's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The best way to start the diet is to go with whole unprocessed foods as much as possible. Fresh meats, potatoes, rice, veggies, fruits etc. Do get a new toaster for gluten free breads and don't share butter, nut butters, condiments etc with gluten eaters. Do keep in mind that if you are going to have more testing for celiac you need to keep eating a regular... -
ARCHIVED Wen Hair Care
ravenwoodglass replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I ordered these products a while back but had to send them back. I don't remember if it was wheat or soy protein in them that made them a no go for me. Companies do change ingredients though so please post their response when you get one. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
ravenwoodglass replied to DawnRochelle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are not going to have the endo done then you need to go gluten free. It is also a good idea to avoid dairy products as you are showing a reaction to casien, the protein, and in addition we are often also lactose intolerant until we heal a bit. Your fecal fat is really high which is indicative of severe malabsorption so it would be a good idea to have... -
ARCHIVED Angry About Food In General!
ravenwoodglass replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry your having such a hard time right now. Yes for some of us distilled gluten will cause a reaction but not for all. I go with potato vodka or clear rum if I am going with hard liquor. You may want to skip the gluten grain beverages until you have healed fully. You may be able to tolerate distilled gluten after you heal. I hope your feeling better soon... -
ARCHIVED I Am Thinking This Is Hogwash- Super Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to Wolicki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea celiac has been around for a long time, long before GMO and high gluten wheat were even thought of. We do get a lot more wheat in our diet than previous generations though as it is in so much processed stuff. A little over a hundred years ago if we wanted bread it was a half day process to make it for many folks and food didn't come out of a can or a... -
ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Do!
ravenwoodglass replied to frantichope's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you can make a direct appointment with the GI doctor you should do so. When you make the appointment ask for a celiac panel, they can call it in or give you a lab slip, so that way you have the test results in when you go to the appointment. Your regular doctor can also order the tests but if the GI wants to do an endo for diagnosis you would need to see... -
ARCHIVED Asca Antibodies And Celiac? Scope Tomorrow
ravenwoodglass replied to sillycinder's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board. After your scope today go gluten free strictly. If you start out with whole unprocessed foods it is the easiest way and the fastest way to heal. Read as much as you can here and ask any questions you need to. Do be sure to get your own new toaster and replace colanders and wooden cooking utensils. Also check your toiletries and makeup... -
No it's not safe to only eat it sometimes. But I think your body is going to let you know that anyway once you have been strict with the diet for a bit and have healed. If you are forming antibodies to gluten even a small amount will flare those antibodies into action. Now that you have had your testing done do give the diet a good strict try. I hope your...

ARCHIVED Need Your Opinion Please...what Would You Do?
ravenwoodglass replied to divamomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it was my child I would simply go with the diet. The choice really is yours. With positive blood tests and a good response to the diet your doctor should be able to diagnose her so precautions can be take when she is in school. -
ARCHIVED Finally Looking For Answers!
ravenwoodglass replied to amberlynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since this started suddenly about a month ago can you think back to anything that might have changed? New lotions or other toiletries, a new gluten-free baked good or baking ingredient, do you take any scripts and if you do are they generic? Generic drugs can change binders at will. Also have you made certain the drug you are taking for the arthritis type... -
No. Anything that gets on your hands can come into contact with your mouth or other mucous membranes. Hair products, especially conditioners, are designed to leave a 'film' on your hair. Lotions and soaps etc also will leave a residue. Shampoos, soaps etc can be accidentally ingested or get in your eyes or nose when showering. IMHO it is best to play it safe...

ARCHIVED Do You Use Probiotics?
ravenwoodglass replied to catarific's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't use them and never have. I eat yogurt and saurkraut or other fermented foods instead. If I am taking antibiotics I make sure I start eating yogurt a couple times a day before I take my first dose and continue until the script is gone. Not saying they are not something you should take. I just would rather not take pills. -
ARCHIVED Could A Blood Test For Celiacs Be Wrong?
ravenwoodglass replied to macie376's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I hope your children's doctor is very knowledgeable about celiac. You should have them screened even if they don't seem symptomatic. Keeping in mind that false negatives with children are even more common than for adults. Something is causing the constipation. With a family history of celiac it is quite possible that celiac is causing it. It is not unusual... -

ARCHIVED What Bath Soap Is Free Of All These Allergies?
ravenwoodglass replied to Trymester's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dr. Bonners (I think that is the name) Castile soap would be one. An olive oil bar might also work for you. Check in your local health food store or a large grocery for ones that might work, you should have quite a few to choose from. -
ARCHIVED 50 Years On Gluten Free Diet, Recent Onset Of Ataxia
ravenwoodglass replied to celiac son's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It does seem she may have gluten sneaking in. Is she on any meds? If she is are they being checked for gluten? Is she living someplace where someone else is cooking for her? If so are they taking precautions against CC? The ataxia is a result of antibody action in the brain so something is causing those antibodies to be there. -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Testing & Validity?
ravenwoodglass replied to vbecton's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We are all entitled to our own opinions here. Mine differs much from yours. I would have given anything to pay $300 for that test rather than the 17 grand that we paid to doctors for visits, meds and testing in just the year before I was diagnosed. I just wish I knew about them then. While there are some that really don't like his tests there are others that... -
ARCHIVED Wishing A Cc Free Christmas!
ravenwoodglass replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The same to you and all here. No chance of CC here as I am cooking at home. I gave my furry children their gifts a short while ago....and started a kitty greed war before I could even get their toys out of the bag. Lots of get back..swat...no me first..swat...no me..swat..no me.. and of course the little dog prefers the catnip mice and noisy balls over his... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With No Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to daizednconphused's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Since he was diagnosed with positive blood work it would be a good idea to have the blood work redone after he has been gluten-free for six months or so. If the antibody levels have dropped down then you know you are doing well with the diet. Do be sure to take precautions against cross contamination like his haveing his own toaster, not sharing condiments... -
ARCHIVED Confusing Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Cindyp43's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your post is one of the reasons I am not a big fan of gene testing. Do keep your DD on the diet strictly. The positive blood test and Marsh 3 damage trump the gene panel. I hope she is feeling better soon and do get your other family members tested.
