  1. I'm sorry but you really need to be strict with the diet. There are some who have no symptoms at all but they still need to be strict with the diet. You do have episodes of stomach pain, that is a symptom. There may also be other things that you don't realize are associated with celiac going on. You run the risk of developing other autoimmune disorders and...
  2. Wine shouldn't generally be an issue. Wine coolers in the US are a malt beverage and those are of course out. There has been occasional talk about wine barrels and a flour paste used to seal them but I think that is rare. Wine does however contain sulfites naturally and some people are sensitive to those but that is not a gluten issue.
  3. If your doctor has prescribed the shots do keep up with what the levels are. While it is rare to have levels that are too high if your levels are over 1000 it can cause some issues. Too much D can also cause issues. Go back to your doctor and get those levels checked on a regular basis and if they are going above the highest level of the range you can step...
  4. Anything that can be inhaled, like flour for example, can enter our systems and cause a reaction. I personally would not live near a wheat field. If moving is not an option you might want to seal up the house during harvest time. Use AC with a filter instead of opening windows. Wipe down the stuff they play with outside or have them play inside. Another possibility...
  5. I had a long and difficult road to diagnosis because I don't show up in blood work. Interestingly both of my children did show a low positive when tested even though their symptoms were no where near as severe as mine. And my DD had a postive endo. They were tested six months after I was finally diagnosed. As a last ditch effort my PT nagged me to get to...
  6. I don't think people are criticizing you. I think that was directed at the person who suggested hiding it to be able to get through boot camp. It is human nature to be curious and in addition for those of us who have done a gluten challenge the thought of someone else having to go through this sends shudders down our spines. I had to do a challenge for...
  7. Did you use any quit smoking products, patches, gum, script etc?
  8. You may be able to tolerate coffee. If you drink a lot cut it down perhaps to only in the morning but if it doesn't bother your stomach you don't have to delete it.
  9. Just a quick note on the osteopenia. In addition to the Vit D and calcium also start a regime of weight bearing excercise. I have osteoporosis and refused the 'bone building' drugs for the reasons others have mentioned. We shall see if I have improved or at least stopped losing bone mass when I get my next scan.
  10. Just make sure your doctor notes on the lab slip that it needs to be gluten free.
  11. With your blood tests being as high as they are you really are already diagnosed. Since there can be false negatives on endos don't let the doctor talk you out of the diet if your results are negative. You really should just stay on gluten until the endo is done if you are choosing to have it. Your symptoms may even get worse if you go gluten light and...
  12. C-reactive protein is a test for inflammation. I had both high C-reactive protein and a high sed rate prediagnosis. Yes it is possible to have celiac and not have either of those two genes. I am an example of that. 5 weeks back on gluten may not be long enough to give a positive result on blood work or endo. Since he did better off gluten and has seen...
  13. Were you seeing a doctor for health problems that have resolved on the diet? If you were you should talk to the doctor and see if he will give you a diagnosis based on your response to the diet and the reaction from your challenge. Both blood and biopsy have higher rates of false negatives than we would like. Do be advised that the false negative rate for...
  14. I agree that you need to be back on gluten for at least 2 months and you still may have a negative panel. I think the option I bolded will be the most effective. Also ask for a copy of those records just in case it gets 'lost'.
  15. Yes untreated celiac can cause issues with fertitily and miscarriage as well as early menapause. Doctors are still not sure why. It also can contribute to the formation of many autoimmune diseases, cancers, brain and nervous system disorders, skin problems, mood and psychiatric problems. It is not as hard nowadays to be gluten free as we have so much more...
  16. Barley malt can also hide in 'natural flavors'.
  17. I have used it with no issues. Some also like Stevia but because of my ragweed allergy that is out for me.
  18. You may want to ask for a referral to a physical therapist for evaluation. You may have something that is pinching nerves or such that a PT can help with. Make sure you mention this symptom to your doctor so they can rule out blocked arteries etc. If this is nerve related if your not taking a sublingual B12 you may want to consider adding some in to see if...
  19. I felt alot better tummy wise pretty quickly and my migraines stopped within the first week. By the six month mark the difference was just short of a miracle. I could walk again unaided and my joint and muscle pain had resolved for the most part. It did take a while for me to realize that I had an issue with soy and once I eliminated that my joint pain was...
  20. I think there are quite a few of us, at least from what I have read here on the board. It did take me quite a while to realize it was an issue for me. I thought for a long time that I was getting CC'd until I started keeping a food and reaction diary. Enterolab then confirmed my suspicions.
  21. Well we do have the same haircut and haircolor. At least before malnutrition turned mine mostly white. LOL I do wish more neuros and psychologists and psychiatrists were more knowledgeable about the effects on the brain and nervous system. While doing research for a paper recently I found a couple studies that stated that folks, including children, with...
  22. I have to wonder if some of us react to more than just the protein in wheat. I know celiac is supposed to be a reaction to the protein, gluten, but perhaps for some the reaction is from more components than just that. That would explain why some of us do react with a gluten reaction to distilled gluten and wheat derived glucose etc.
  23. Good idea to give up the soy. You maybe should give them up one at a time. Soy was the C offender for me. Even a little bit binds me up painfully for days. My system doesn't tolerate flax seed in any form so I couldn't use anything with that for relief.
  24. Yea being diagnosed at her age will avoid a lot of health issues down the line. Do make sure that the rest of the family gets screened also even if they don't seem to have symptoms.
  25. More common than we would like for a variety of reasons. If you think it would help get your DH to try the diet you certainly could get the gene tests done but try to go with someplace that will test for more than just the DQ2 or DQ8. Glad to hear the diet is also helping you. If your DH is symptomatic he really should try the diet. Have him try it starting...
