  1. If you want ready made frosting and are leery of the Pillsbury just go with Duncan Hines. Their gluten-free frostings are labeled gluten free on the container.
  2. I have been pain free now for quite a few years. It took, if I remember correctly, about six months or so and my joints in my hands are still deformed but I have full use of them. A couple of the fingers on the hand that was effected the worst do still 'trigger' a bit but it doesn't hurt it is just annoying. The pain in the joints that were less effected...
  3. Wheat and barley grass are simply wheat and barley that has not formed the seed heads. As Skylark says there is not supposed to be any gluten in it but it is not IMHO safe for us. I learned that the hard way. The ryegrass that is grown as lawns is a different thing than the rye that is grown for it's seed.
  4. Wegmans is pretty cautious and very trustworthy. If you call their toll free number they will be able to answer your question. As for myself if it doesn't have the circle G and it is not a single ingredient item like ground coffee I don't consume.
  5. False negatives in both blood and biopsy are all too common so yes your blood test could be a false negative. If you are going to pursue further testing you need to keep eating gluten until it is done. You do have the option of doing a dietary trial, which is IMHO the best test there is, but if you decide later that you want to have the endo done you would...
  6. How are you feeling on the diet? That is more important than the test results.
  7. This was my thinking also. Do be sure to eliminate dairy and perhaps even soy for now. You can add them back when you are fully healed to see if you tolerate them. I really doubt that you are going to be able to get disability. A lot depends on whether your doctors are willing to state that they feel you are fully disabled and then the disability office will...
  8. It's my understanding that in the US if the label just says vinegar it is apple cider vinegar. Distilled vinegar will be labeled 'distilled' and the other vinegars such as malt and balsamic etc will be labeled by name. A very few of us will react to distilled gluten grain vinegar, and I am one of them, so I always check the source. Heinz distilled white vinegar...
  9. Amy's products seem to have issues with CC. I used to eat them frequently and sometimes they would be fine and others they would get me.
  10. You may be able to get away with hard cheese like cheddar and the yogurt. Both have less lactose than wet cheeses like mozzarella or a glass of milk. It all depends on the person.
  11. There is no reason not to do both scopes at once other than by doing them seperately the doctor gets paid more. Also you already have the answer with the highly positive and very specific blood test the doctor has already run.
  12. If your boyfreind has no gluten issues then the diet will not be a problem for him. What sometimes happens though is that people don't realize they have a gluten issue and when they go gluten free to support someone else and then occasionally consume gluten they notice symptoms. If that happens it is because they also need to be gluten free. Have you deleted...
  13. It can take a bit of time to heal but I am glad he is feeling a bit better. If he can take liquid Pepto Bismal that may help the pain. Be careful with antiacid tablet OTC products as not all are gluten free. Many are but check first.
  14. I wonder if you might have developed an issue with casein?
  15. They use barley in the processing. I would avoid it. If you live near a Wegmans they have a good rice milk that is for sure gluten free.
  16. In my case the swelling was definately related to gluten. My fingers would swell so much at night that they looked like little sausages in the morning but would go down after I had been up for a few hours. In my case it was because of the effects of gluten on my kidneys. The only time they swell now is if I have been getting glutened.
  17. Lots of people have trouble with the artificial sweeteners. I avoid them. I also don't really care for HFCS so what I do is pour a quarter of a glass of juice of some kind and top it off with a 'sparking' water that has nothing but water and carbonation. Tasty and gives me not only the 'fizz' that I want but also a touch of vitamin C. My favorite is using...
  18. Sorry things didn't work out but I think you made the right choice kicking him to the curb.
  19. There can be other things going on but the hard question is...how often are those other things caused by the reaction to gluten? And if they are would they resolve with the diet rather than you having to take meds. For myself gluten was the reason for both an ulcer and severe diverticulosis and both resolved after I had been gluten free for a while without...
  20. This was what I was thinking. I wonder, if the milk is open in the work fridge, if someone is slurping it down from the container after eating a gluten food. Some folks have really nasty habits when no one else is looking.
  21. In the US with foods if it is derived from wheat it will say so on the label. Meds need to be checked with the maker as the label regs are not the same. If you get sick from MFS in foods you may have an additional intolerance.
  22. You have had the testing done so now is when you give the diet a good strict try and see if it helps. You don't have to wait on the results and your response to the diet is what really counts as false negatives are all too common in testing. Your in a great place to learn what you need to learn about the gluten free lifestyle so feel free to ask any questions...
  23. He could be celiac or gluten intolerant. Have they ever done a blood test for celiac? That would be the first thing I would ask the doctor to do. Another option would be for him to do a strict trial of the diet but if he goes gluten free and then later decides he wants celiac testing he would need to challenge gluten for a couple of months before testing...
  24. Your tests results are positive. The Deamidated Gliadin ABS is the best and most specific test for celiac that is avaiable. Yours is positive as is the TTG. Your GI may not be up on the current research and testing methods for celiac. No matter what the results of your biopsy you need to go gluten free as soon as the biopsy is done, if you chose to have the...
  25. Thanksgiving was a little over a week ago. Did you have dinner at family or friends homes? If so I would suspect CC. Did you have the dinner at your home and cook gluten food for others? You could have been CC'd that way. Do you eat at restaurants much? You could have been CC'd there. Is there something you are eating more of than before you started the diet...
