ARCHIVED Unsure Whether This Had Gluten In It Or Not
ravenwoodglass replied to smile's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea that's the brand I go for also. But I must admit I do miss bullion cubes and the chicken base that I used to use which was basically powdered bullion. Nothing like a hot cup of chicken bullion with crackers after a hour of shoveling snow or when the sniffles strike. -
Hopefully the derm knew to biopsy next to a lesion and not the lesion itself. If the derm biopsied the lesion you can expect the results to be negative. As another poster said it might be a good idea to get a celiac panel done. Don't go off gluten until you are done with testing.

Yes it is entirely possible. I dealt with it for years both in myself and in one of my children. -

ARCHIVED Dove Chocolate
ravenwoodglass replied to MATT1983's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is it because your fasting glucose was high? If so be aware that if you are early into the diet you are still ill and that can raise those numbers. Have your doctor recheck in a couple of months. Also watch out for how many carbs your consuming if your BS is high. A book on the glycemic index of foods can be helpful in pinpointing which foods are going... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Toiletries
ravenwoodglass replied to Trymester's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Never assume toiletries won't have gluten. Wheat germ oil and wheat protein are more common than you would think. Dove and Suave will label gluten ingredients clearly. For organic Giovanni has some nice products in the hair dept but I haven't checked the skin care line. Burts Bees also has some good stuff. -
ARCHIVED Almost 6 Weeks Gluten Free But Still Nauseous On And Off
ravenwoodglass replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
IMHO is 'in my humble opinion'. I do go out to eat on occasion but only at places that have a gluten free menu. With cross contamination being a risk I choose not to eat at 'fast' food places or establishments where I am not sure that folks know what they need to do to keep me safe. I have very severe reactions including a 3 day GI bleed with CC so to me... -
ARCHIVED Test Results-Elevated Anti Gliadin
ravenwoodglass replied to suzanne*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
1. So how long IS long enough? And if I am gluten-free for say, 90 days and then eat gluten again and feel fine, can I then conclude that I CAN eat gluten? There are folks that are referred to as silent celiacs. If your body is making antibodies it doesn't want gluten. A couple weeks gluten free is not really long enough to heal and you may actually have... -
ARCHIVED Weird Withdrawal Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to momof4gf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
CC is cross contamination. For example eating something like FF that are gluten free but cooked in the same oil as onion rings would CC the frys. If she is only two weeks into the diet she is still healing. You note she has an appointment with the GI in a month, do be aware that if you are looking for testing for celiac she needs to still be eating gluten... -
ARCHIVED My Hair!
ravenwoodglass replied to Mexican Trailrunner's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I get a lot of hair fallout from both gluten and soy. Something that seems to help is taking a vitamin formulated for hair and nails. I use Country Life brand. Extra biotin also seems to help. Do also have your iron levels checked as well as thyroid as I think being anemic can also result in hair loss. -
ARCHIVED A Gluteny Food You've Craved But Definitely Not Worth It...
ravenwoodglass replied to heatherjane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The only thing I crave that I can't find a gluten free version of is phyllo. I would love to scarf down a whole package of raspberry turnovers or a sheet of baklava. -
ARCHIVED Almost 6 Weeks Gluten Free But Still Nauseous On And Off
ravenwoodglass replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only coffee I drink is coffee I brew myself. I got a nice thermos type cup for the car if I want to bring one with me when I am out. I would start off with homebrewed coffee to be on the safe side. Personally I wouldn't touch something made at McDonalds or Dunkin Doughnuts. Just not worth the risk IMHO. -
ARCHIVED Food Allergy Testing
ravenwoodglass replied to Roda's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Have you had him tested for celiac or tryed him on the diet? Sometimes the inflammatory reaction from celiac can cause problems like he is having. If you haven't tested him yet it might be a good idea and then when testing is done give the diet a try with him. -

If you found the packaging can you call the company and ask? -
ARCHIVED Vertigo/dizziness After Going gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to GFshay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get those symptoms with CC. They could also be due to deficiencies so it might be a good idea to have your vitamin and mineral levels checked. What are you typically eating? Are you eating in restaurants? Are you eating mostly whole unprocessed food? Have you deglutened your home and your toiletries? -
I control any cravings by making sure that when I have them I go for a gluten free version of whatever I am craving. I make sure that I have gluten free forms of my favorite stuff on hand. For me that means keeping pizza shells in the freezer and cake mix in the cupboard. If you have been gluten-free for a year and have healed well you may be able to tolerate...

ARCHIVED Revenant's Journal.
ravenwoodglass replied to revenant's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If your sister is going to try the diet perhaps you can be each others support and sounding board. The key to getting over the withdrawl issues is to fight through them and not give in to the temptation to eat gluten. Caving and going to gluten is going to keep the withdrawl going. Can you get a supply of safe gluten free stuff that you can keep on hand to... -
ARCHIVED Weird Withdrawal Symptoms?
ravenwoodglass replied to momof4gf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Could your DD have gotten glutened? I ask because getting glutened messes up my vision for a while. Has your regular doctor, her ped, done vitamin and mineral panels on her? She may need some supplements. I doubt being on the diet is messing her up but she may be very sensitive to CC and reacting to that. Have you deglutened the kitchen? New toaster, cutting... -
ARCHIVED Almost 6 Weeks Gluten Free But Still Nauseous On And Off
ravenwoodglass replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I drink coffee all the time. If you really miss it try having just one cup in the morning. If it bothers you then drop it. Oddly enough I have trouble with some teas, they just don't like me not a gluten issue. -
ARCHIVED Confused Have I Been Diagnosed Now ? Finally
ravenwoodglass replied to Dellers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It means your doctor thinks you should avoid gluten. If you have to pay out of pocket to see the dietian ask when you call to make the appointment if they are familiar with the gluten free diet. Not all are. -
ARCHIVED Almost 6 Weeks Gluten Free But Still Nauseous On And Off
ravenwoodglass replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You may want to try switching do a different supplement drink or maybe drop it for a bit and substitute a smoothie made with rice, almond or hemp milk to make up the calories. Soy can be a common co-intolerance for us and if it is a problem for you the nausea should get better pretty quickly. It sounds like your eating a pretty balanced diet and taking supplements... -
ARCHIVED Effect Of Colds On Gi Tract And D?
ravenwoodglass replied to Kay DH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you taking anything for the cold? If you are have you made sure it is gluten-free? Before I was gluten free I caught every bug there was around. After being gluten-free I haven't had a cold or virus in a very long time. My doctor said the thought that when glutened my body was fighting the gluten so hard it couldn't fight the viruses. Don't know for sure... -
And some products will give no warning at all about CC in any form just a list of ingredients in the product. Hence the advice given to folks that are just beginning to go with as much unprocessed foods as possible. CC warnings are voluntary and some companies are good about putting them on the label and some don't bother.

ARCHIVED ...not What I'd Planned.
ravenwoodglass replied to nextjenx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jen, It sounds like you know that gluten is an issue for you. Good for you for realizing that. Do keep in mind that if you were gluten free for any length of time that you would need a couple months on gluten for the testing. Even when we are on a full gluten diet we still sometimes have false negatives on testing. If your body has reacted badly to adding... -
ARCHIVED Blood Work Results
ravenwoodglass replied to michayla's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do you have the reference ranges for the tests? Sometimes labs have different ranges. You say you went back on gluten for a week, how long were you off of it? How did your body react to adding it back in? If we have been off gluten for a while and healed it may take a longer challenge than a week to show up positive in the blood tests.
