  1. If you have been gluten-free for a bit pay good attention to your body when you add gluten back in. Blood tests do have a high rate of false negatives so if you react when you go back on gluten get back off it and stay off it. It is quite possible to have both celiac and chrons, as far as I know.
  2. Here is another link. It seems that test is useful especially for folks with low total IGA. I really don't know if it could be associated with anything else as I can only find links for that test to do with celiac but one article did say it can take a long time for the numbers to go down. 3. I must be the oddball. I haven't even had a cold since I was diagnosed even when I was working in the school system. It's been almost 8 years now. The only illness I have had was GI issues before I realized I can't do soy and of course an occasional glutening. My doctor said since my immune system was effectively in hyperdrive before diagnosis it may have...
  4. What home test did you do?
  5. I think folks should use caution with this product. I know that technically it can be considered the 'gluten is processed out' but personally I would avoid the product the same as I avoid codex wheat starch.
  6. I would just tell them you are following your doctors advise. If they doubt it perhaps your doctor would write a 'script' for the diet that you could show them. In my family seeing my symptoms resolve made a believer out of them all and they listened and got tested themselves, as doctors recommend. As you can see in my sig they were all positive also.
  7. If you are still having symptoms I would wonder if gluten is sneaking in somewhere. The TTG is pretty sensitive according to the NIH here is as link Open Original Shared Link
  8. I would drop the A1 sauce. I had a hard time finding the ingredient list but did find one that says this: A1 is a steak sauce and condiment for use with meat or game dishes. Among its core ingredients are malt vinegar, dates, mango chutney, apples and orange marmalade If this is correct A1 is a not something we should be consuming because of the malt...
  9. I agree with the others. I think Skylard meant to say celiac blood tests have a high false negative rate not positive. Thankfully you were only at Marsh 1 when diagnosed and your gluten free diet has shown that healed the damage. It can take time to heal, stay on the diet and do delete dairy for a bit. You can add it back in when you are feeling better. Welcome...
  10. I agree. As I said in my other response if she can take Pepto Bismal Liquid it may help the pain. It can darken the stool and do tell the doctor she took it if she does.
  11. If she can take Pepto Bismal Liquid give her some that may help. Please do tell the doctor about this when you see him. I used cream of wheat and triscuits for my challenge and yes the challenge reaction was severe. I am sorry she is feeling so bad. You have to decide when you see the doctor whether continueing the challenge should be done or not. There are...
  12. I don't know why this would happen but I am going to suggest you see your doctor if you haven't already. It might be a good idea to have stool samples done from the different voids.
  13. I wouldn't touch them. If you want to take the risk fine.
  14. Connie, I know your really not going to want to hear this but.....Does the label list soy oil by any chance? It is not uncommon for us to have problems with soy.
  15. It can be part of the aging process but it can also be caused by illness or stress. If the loss is in the areas that are common for male pattern baldness, top and sides or on the crown and you have other family members who have gone bald it may just be genetic. If the loss is diffuse, or all over your head then the chances that it comes from your illness...
  16. One thing that may happen with him is that he may lose at least a few of those other allergies. Before I was diagnosed with celiac I was tested for true allergies. I was tested for 99 different items, I came back reactive to 98. The only thing I wasn't allergic to was beech trees. Within a pretty short time gluten free I had lost almost all the other allergies...
  17. You could check out Enterolab. They don't diagnose celiac but they can do a gene panel and for your other family members they could do stool testing to see if they are forming antibodies. The kids would have gotten one set of genes from you and one from Dad. I was not tested by Enterolab until 5 years after diagnosis and did it mainly to see what genes I...
  18. Go to your regular store for those items. They are not anything special they are the same thing you would buy at the local grocery store. The Ebay seller isn't lying but in my opinion they are trying to 'cash in' on folks that don't realize they are the same stuff if they are charging more than you would pay at the corner. If you go to many of the candy...
  19. It does appear that his results (Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgG 16 H) were positive. I think the TTG being negative is a good thing as it tends to be positive in folks who have autoimmune issues that have developed from the celiac damage. I could be wrong about that and if I am I am sure someone will come along and correct me. However is he going to want to...
  20. You should go back to your doctor and demand to be screened for celiac. Yes your issues could be due to gluten. Do not go gluten free until after all the testing you choose to do is finished.
  21. First off you have a very wise and knowledgeable doctor. You are very lucky. Yes it does sound like you are in the right place. After all the testing is done do try the diet even if the results are negative. Do not go gluten free until after the biopsy if you are going to have one.
  22. Are you consuming soy? If you are you may want to eliminate it. Many of us are sensitive to it and we tend to increase the amount we consume because it is in so many gluten free products. Soy does exactly what you describe, nausea and C to me and it took me forever to figure that one out. It is a good idea to eliminate dairy also until you have fully healed...
  23. All kids do not get bellyaches. I do hope your husband can get tested and/or that you can talk him into having a gluten free house. It sounds like the whole family could benefit. The fact that you are celiac makes the likelyhood that your children will be also pretty strong. It can take a while for the blood tests to show up positive. We also, as you well...
