You are in a very hard spot and you have my sympathy. You have to go back on gluten to be tested and you would have to find a doctor willing to test. It sounds like your best option is to just continue the diet at least until you are out of school and able to find work and live in an area where you can find a new and more knowledgable doctor. I wish I...

ARCHIVED Hives That Don't Go Away
ravenwoodglass replied to jessicalw28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It does sound like you may be one of us. I would suggest you have the allergist or your regular doctor do a full celiac panel as a first step. If you do have celiac you need to be aware it is not an allergy and will not show up in allergy testing. Some allergists will guide with an elimination diet which can show us that we are better off with gluten but... -

ARCHIVED Am I Gluten Or Diary Intolerant?
ravenwoodglass replied to beals's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The first thing you need to know is that if you are gluten free you can't be tested for celiac. You have to be eating gluten. What that means is if you go gluten free and feel better but you still feel you need a diagnosis you will have to go back on gluten for 2 to 3 months. If your body wants to be gluten free those 2 or 3 months will be miserable months... -

ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed And Things Have Gone Downhill
ravenwoodglass replied to julandjo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is such great news! I know it must have been hard for you but you did it. I hope the feeling awesome stays just be sure when you add stuff back in to do it with whole foods and one at a time for a week before you add something else. -

ARCHIVED What To Expect From Here?
ravenwoodglass replied to Leelee<3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The GI doctor will likely take your history. He may order celiac panels if your regular doctor hasn't already. It might be a good idea to get copies of the lab work to bring with you. You have a legal right to them so don't let them tell you that you can't have them. If your blood work is positive rarely a doctor will diagnose on the basis but usually they... -

ARCHIVED Got The Diagnosis, Doc Thinks There Is More...
ravenwoodglass replied to vbecton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One thing to also keep in mind is you are only 3 months into the diet. The exhaustion can take some time to go away. Are you eating a mostly whole foods diet with little processed food? That is the best way to go. Have you changed over cooking prep items that need to be changed like colanders, wooden utensils, toasters etc? Are you living in a home with others... -
I had my pancreas basically shut down due to a bad reaction to a drug I was given before a routine procedure a few years ago. I was very ill afterwards and basically could identify everything I ate when it shot out the other end. Sorry for the TMI. Anyway I immediately went to a naturopathic doctor who while he was a bit clueless about how sensitive celiacs...

ARCHIVED Got The Diagnosis, Doc Thinks There Is More...
ravenwoodglass replied to vbecton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I noticed the Green's and Whey of the Biochem also says gluten free but it does contain barley grass which is an issue for many of us. Not saying this is the case but I wonder if the one you take could either be made with barley grass or processed on the same equipment. The Vegan form also contains xylitol which is a sugar alcohol. Some of us will have issues... -
It sounds like you have a solid plan. Do start your gluten challenge about 3 months before you go back for Christmas. If you can get into the GI this trip they can always see if something else is going on. Your continued issues could be from not being superstrict on the diet but it is never a bad idea to rule out other problems. Being gluten free will only...

Short and sweet, listen to your body. It is giving you the answer. Stay strictly gluten free. -

ARCHIVED Got The Diagnosis, Doc Thinks There Is More...
ravenwoodglass replied to vbecton's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know what he is referring to but I do have a question for you. Are you consuming soy? Many folks that need a high protein diet, like atheletes use soy as a protein source. Many of us are intolerant to it. If soy is part of your diet do eliminate it for a while and see if that helps. Also you said your nutrient levels are good in your bloodwork.... -

				ARCHIVED I Am Soooooo Frustrated
ravenwoodglass replied to Harley9999's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Until I had fully healed yes they did feel very similiar. Once I had fully healed I realized that soy doesn't give me the same neuro issues and it's reaction doesn't last as long as gluten reactions do. -

				ARCHIVED Anxiety!
ravenwoodglass replied to revenant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be a contributing factor. Many have gotten relief from anxiety with the diet. I alas was not someone that just the diet worked for. I have PTSD and have, or I should now say had, agoraphobia. In addition to the diet I would strongly urge you to find a counselor that you can work with. Sometimes it has to be baby steps with the agorophobia. I started... -

				ARCHIVED I Am Soooooo Frustrated
ravenwoodglass replied to Harley9999's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your getting sick from the pizza may provide an important insight. Was there cheese of that pizza? You may also, and I know you don't want to hear this, need to give up dairy for a bit. Do it and see if it helps. Another thing you may want to watch out for and delete for a while is soy. I thought I was being glutened for a long time by stuff that was gluten... -

				ARCHIVED When Do You Know
ravenwoodglass replied to kcseb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
While you do a gluten free trial do give up barley and rye also. If you have Green's beer there try that as it is gluten-free or find something else to drink as an alternative to the Guinness. If you are gluten free all week then go with a gluten beer on the weekends you are not going to heal. -

ARCHIVED Face Wash Products/ Clean And Clear
ravenwoodglass replied to aldea-muchacha's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use many Garnier Nutritioneste products. As a face wash I use their Nutri-Pure. I also use the Wrinkle Defense night cream and it is fantastic. The label said I would see a difference in just one use, yea right I thought, well I did and wouldn't use anything else now. I don't know if all the moisturising products are gluten-free but they do label well. -

ARCHIVED Celiac Related To Severe Knee Pain?
ravenwoodglass replied to gemowe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This describes me to a T. I did have to eliminate soy as well as gluten before my arthritis went into pretty much total remission. It only flares now when glutened or soyed. It did take about 6 months before pain was pretty much a thing of the past but I did see some improvement before then. The most severely effected joints still look a bit wonky but everything... -

				ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine Test
ravenwoodglass replied to crimsonviolet's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Lucky hubby. I hope things improve soon for you. The longer you are gluten free the more the antibodies will leave your skin. Eventually your flareups will be mild as long as your not getting CC'd very often. It took a while but now when I get glutened I only get a couple little blisters that go away really quick. -
You need to be back on gluten for about 2 to 3 months for any chance of an accurate biopsy or blood test. Are you from Belgium and a citizen? I don't know how their medical system works if you are not a resident but doing a challenge for 2 to 3 months to get a bit of help with food costs for 3 weeks doesn't seem worth it to me. I would just stay on the diet...

ARCHIVED Pain Medicine From Your Gi Doctor?
ravenwoodglass replied to missceliac2010's topic in Doctors
I would let my regular doctor know that you are also using it for GI pain. He may suggest a muscle relaxer for the times that you are glutened since the pain many times comes from cramps or he may allow you to have a script of the one you are on to use when glutening happens. Scripts for opiates are very closely monitored so don't be offended if the GI doctor... -

				ARCHIVED Chicken?
ravenwoodglass replied to williamsburg000's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had this issue with a small neighborhood grocers that I used to get cut up meats and fruits from. I constantly had mystery glutenings. One day the door to the back room was open and the employees were on a lunch break. They were all using the big cutting board for fruits and veggies as a table. Another time a meat room worker came out of the meat area and... -

				ARCHIVED Gluten And Corn
ravenwoodglass replied to Smarts's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may be intoleratnt to corn. But a couple other things to consider, if it was corn on the cob was it drained in a colander or strainer that had been used for pasta? Just a thought. Also symptoms can be delayed so it might have been something else that got you and then there is also the issue that many of us have ups and downs for a while when we are first... -
Please do tell us the brand so others don't suffer. Also you need to go to the FDA website and report this. Wheat has to be on the label by FDA regs and allowing a few batches to slip through is just not allowed, a recall needs to be done.

				ARCHIVED Blood Test Accuracy
ravenwoodglass replied to angiegoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know this sounds funny but I am relieved that the biopsy was positive. Yes you can now say you have celiac. I am very thankful for you that the damage is in the early stages. The lifestyle does take a bit of getting used to but you can do it. You may find a bit of withdrawl but not all do. Ask any questions you need to you. We are here for you. -

				ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine Test
ravenwoodglass replied to crimsonviolet's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
That does sound like a positive DH test IMHO. You did it correctly. The inside of the elbow and the backs of the knees are common places for it to show up. I at one point had DH lesions covering my legs and arms but after a couple of years it would show up just in the inside bend areas of my arms and legs. DH lesions are usually bilateral but not always....
