				ARCHIVED Negative Blood Tests
ravenwoodglass replied to Holydiver's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree. There are many instances of false negatives with blood and biopsy. Even gene tests can't firmly rule it out. Your body can give you the answer though. If you got relief after just a one week trial it is highly unlikely IMHO that was a placebo effect. After you have had all the testing you choose to do give the diet a good strict try for a couple... -

ARCHIVED Bad Side Effects On Gluten Free Diet.
ravenwoodglass replied to Leeis2k's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is nothing, absolutely nothing that you would be getting from wheat or gluten that can not be found in other foods like rice, potatoes etc. I am wondering if your having CC issues from someplace like your cosmetics, shampoos, do you have a pet and feed it gluten food (some of us need to make our pet gluten-free). do you have a significant other that... -

				ARCHIVED What Are The Issues
ravenwoodglass replied to Mr.GF's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It depends on the company. A dedicated gluten free facility helps and it will normally say it is on the box or can. With baked goods companies like Kinnickinnick and Grainless Baker are good. There are a couple gluten free convience foods that I buy and haven't had an issue with. One is Hormel Beef Stew in a can. They also make a microwavable scalloped potatoes... -

ARCHIVED I Am Going To ******* Scream! --Vent
ravenwoodglass replied to looking4help's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do let them do the laproscopy. You may very well have adhesions and as another poster wrote the doctor can free things up while they are in there. I got a great deal of relief from having the adhesions freed. As said the can grow back and they have in me but it took well over 10 years to do so. I am now leaving mine alone since although I can feel where the... -

Bard's Tale used to do on line ordering but I don't know if they still do. Don't know about Greens though. -

ravenwoodglass replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Willow, I do drink Redbridge, I'll be picking up a six tonight after class. I have tried Green's, the dark one, but it was just not to my liking. I'll have to see if they have the pale ale that may be more to my taste. -

And tragic for those who have other systems like the brain impacted severely first or those whose intestinal damage is beyond the reach of the scope. -

				ARCHIVED And Yet Another Symptom
ravenwoodglass replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is amazing how many systems are effected. Many more than I thought when first diagnosed. I was just happy to have tummy issues stop but was amazed when other stuff slowly resolved also. It felt like a rebirth in many ways. -

				ARCHIVED Onset Of Glutening Sx
ravenwoodglass replied to haleym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This was a hard question to answer. I get my gluten ataxia and my tummy starts to growl within a couple hours, migraines come the next day along with joint pain and an overwhelming depression but the upset tummy doesn't arrive until 2 or 3 days later. My whole reaction takes about 3 weeks to resolve. My 'pattern' makes it pretty clear to me when I get glutened... -

				ARCHIVED Contradicting Results
ravenwoodglass replied to missceliac2010's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Boy can I identify with your post. I am a text book firmly diagnosed celiac. I had the blood tests more times than I can count. It took literally 15 years after the worst of the symptoms set in before I was diagnosed because I also show negative on blood tests. Why I don't know but lots of us do. Just listen to your body and by the way the tests for celiac... -

				ARCHIVED Publications/organizations/foundations!
ravenwoodglass replied to Frances03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know it's frustrating. One of the best places I have found to stay informed is right here. Scott is good about posting new articles in the publications and publicity section of the board as well as on the home page. I know this wasn't real helpful and hopefully some others will have some other ideas. -

				ARCHIVED Dq2/dq8 Results
ravenwoodglass replied to bilyjimbob's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can't use the gene tests as a conclusive yes you have it or no you don't and never will. I am a firmly diagnosed celiac without either DQ2 or DQ8, I have a double DQ9. IMHO it makes no difference if you are celiac or 'gluten intolerant' if your body is reacting to gluten you need to be just as strict with either label. -

				ARCHIVED Vega Protein Suppliment
ravenwoodglass replied to glutenfreegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found out the hard way that I react to barley and wheat grass the same as I do to a slice of bread. I wouldn't touch the stuff. Have you looked into any of the Hemp protein powders? I don't remember the name but there was one that I used to use that was dairy and gluten and soy free. -

ARCHIVED How Fast Does Dh Show Up?
ravenwoodglass replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You may want to check out this thread. I have had definate DH but after looking at some of the pictures of HD I realized that may have been what I had on my back and the back of my neck. You can find images of it by doing a image search on the net. As with you my lesions were not itchy in those spots but were very painful and left the same purplish scars... -

				ARCHIVED Post Diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to IveGotEffinCeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Allie, you should be getting some relief by now from your celiac symptoms. Have you checked all meds and supplements for gluten? Are you eating mostly a whole food diet without a bunch of processed stuff? Have you eliminated dairy? Do you consume stuff with Codex wheat starch? If you do stop. Have you done the things you need to do to eat safely at home?... -

ARCHIVED Bad Side Effects On Gluten Free Diet.
ravenwoodglass replied to Leeis2k's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What are you eating when you go off gluten? It is best to stick with meats, veggies, fruits, beans, rice, potatoes etc at first. Are you consuming the specialty gluten free foods? Many of those have soy, which can be an issue for some of us and they often have things like bean flour and sorghum that we are not used to eating and may be intolerant to. It is... -

				ARCHIVED New Diagnosed Wheat Farmer?
ravenwoodglass replied to farmwife67's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree completely. The issue, I think, stems from folks who consider gluten to be a mostly GI problem and neglect the fact that it is a systemic autoimmune issue. Hence the 'if you don't eat it it will not cause a reaction' mindset. Gluten does not pass through INTACT skin but it can enter the system through small breaks in the skin and can also enter into... -

				ARCHIVED And Yet Another Symptom
ravenwoodglass replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It was quite a shock to me that my asthma was part of the celiac picture but I guess it is not surprising since it seems to have something to do with inflammation. Sorry this happened to you. Salsa dancing is sooo much fun. I did it quite a bit prediagnosis but stopped when I kept falling over. LOL After I had been gluten free for a while the asthma stopped... -
I do hope they aren't phasing them out. It would be a shame as so many like them. We don't have Food Lion stores here but you post was really helpful for me. I somehow missed this "(but they did say "may contain soy on the cake and "contains soy" on the cookies.)" on the packages. The mystery of why they didn't agree with me is now solved.

ARCHIVED Corneal Damage From Contact Lenses & Solutions
ravenwoodglass replied to emsimm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had a similar experience with the toric lenses but no where near as bad. I stopped wearing them years ago but it was literally years before the red circles that marked the edges of the where the lenses were went away. Mine were a hard lense but I don't know if your's were. My DS and DD both use lenses with no real problems. Our doctor wouldn't give them... -

ARCHIVED Still Looking For A Safe Rice Milk Beverage
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jason, If you can't find a suitable milk sub that you like PM me. I have a Wegmans close by and can let you know how much it would cost to mail you some. I'd be lost without Wegmans rice milk as I don't really like the other kinds. I will also call the main office, which is very close to me and suggest that they make that item available by mail order. -

				ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge
ravenwoodglass replied to michaelkl1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have already had a positive biopsy and good results from the diet. I would pass on the challenge as the positive biopsy is the 'gold standard' and false negatives on blood work are all to common. Accept that you are already diagnosed. -

ARCHIVED Please Help Interpret My Test Results
ravenwoodglass replied to sacket's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please do try the diet. Those levels are high for a reason. Also false negatives on biopsy and blood are all too common. A good strict trial of the gluten free diet is in order. I have a feeling if you follow it strictly a lot, if not all of your issues may resolve. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
