  1. Glad I could help. There is lots of knowledge and real nice people here, and we're free. Be sure to check out the section for parents of kids with celiac also.
  2. This article from celiac.coms home page has quite a bit of info to get you started. /celiac-disease/the-gluten-free-diet-101-a-beginners-guide-to-going-gluten-free-r1640/ Welcome and ask any questions you need to. I am glad she is feeling better. A whole food unprocessed diet is the best way to start. Watch out for codex wheat starch in products over...
  3. Is the same doctor prescribing all of these? You have at least 3 meds that have tiredness or sleepiness as a side effect. You should bring this to the attention of your doctor(s) ASAP
  4. My hair did grow back. Like you the loss was diffuse, or all over not in patches. I had to be strict with the diet, I take Country Life Hair and Nails supplements and use shampoo that is for sure gluten free. When I get glutened or in my case soyed also, I do get a recurrance of hair loss for a short time. So for me it is part of the autoimmune reaction....
  5. With two celiac children the chances of you, with your symptoms, having it also are IMHO high. I do think that you would benefit from doing the diet. Your 'challenge' recently has borne that out.
  6. I second this, also check any meds you take and supplement. Eliminate gluten from your toiletries and make sure you have done all you need to in your home to be safe, ie. seperate condiments, nut butters and jelly, new dedicated toaster and colander or strainer, not using gluten flours to bake for others etc. You should go with as whole and unprocessed of...
  7. With a response like that I wouldn't used any of their products. Just my opinion but there are plenty of other supplements available and likely at a much lower cost.
  8. Life is full of individual choices. I don't think what a individual chooses to label themselves, whether diseased or different, should be a subject for argument. No matter what the label all here know the serious repercussions of injesting gluten on our bodies. If one person is more comfortable thinking of themselves as diseased and another is more comfortable...
  9. Please do make sure to read the previous link and the links attached to it throughly. The host is not gluten free it is very low gluten and is made with wheat starch. There will be some who can consume it safely but there will be some who can't.
  10. Unless your Catholic you can use gluten-free bread. Ask your priest or pastor before the next service.
  11. IMHO it would be a rare infant that was born with celiac, not that it could never happen but Celiac normally requires a trigger, an illness or stress that causes it to become active. In countries that screen children, with or without symptoms they are tested at about 4 and again at puberty or at any point when they become symptomatic.
  12. You continue on the diet and heal. Not all celiacs are DQ2 or DQ8. I am one of the oddballs who isn't. Gene testing is a relatively new science and is not the be all and end all of diagnosis. Your response to the diet is.
  13. I would just drop the soy for at least a couple of months. IMHO dropping legumes in general isn't needed but others may disagree.
  14. Yes the vitamin could be causing the black stool if it has iron in it. If you are worried call the doctors office and ask to speak with a nurse. Write down your concerns and speak to her/him in detail. If the nurse thinks you may have a serious issue she can and will move your appointment up. Even though you elimated soy a while back and then added it...
  15. I would wait at least two weeks after you are feeling better to do a gluten challenge. When you do it is best to do it with something like cream of wheat or triscuits or something that has just gluten. Eat the food you are challenging for at least a week before you assume you have no issues with it as reactions can be delayed.
  16. I am also going to strongly urge you to drop the soy. You should not be seeing undigested food 2 years into a strict gluten free diet. Drop the soy and if things do not improve within a short time do see your doctor again. There are liquid and chewable vitamins available I would advise you to go with those rather than crushing one that is designed to be swallowed...
  17. You may be getting some gluten cross contamination somewhere. Another thing to watch for with DH is iodine. It will keep the antibodies in the skin active so make sure until you have been DH free for a while that you eliminate iodine from foods and supplements. After you have been DH free for a while you can add iodized salt back in.
  18. Welcome, you do sound like you belong here. I can really identify with the horrible hangovers. The most puzzling thing for me about them was that I drank nonalcoholic beer. I couldn't understand how in the world I would have hangovers when I never got drunk. Most of us do need to drop dairy or limit it at first. IMHO though it is not the limiting dairy...
  19. I absolutely agree with the two previous posters. There may also be things that you never imagined were connected to celiac that just disappear. Celiac is so much more than an upset tummy and sometimes the upset tummy aspect is one of the last things to appear. I was in very bad shape by the time I was diagnosed and never in a million years did I think so...
  20. I went to the second link and this is what I found: Water, Corn Syrup Solids, Sugar, Calcium Caseinate (From Cows Milk), Canola Oil, and less than 2% of Corn Oil, Soy Lecithin, Natural and Artificial Flavors (Contains Milk), Potassium Citrate, Calcium Citrate, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Phosphate, Salt, Magnesium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Sodium Ascorbate...
  21. There was one brand of sugar that got me both GI and DH wise years ago. I had bought a very large container of it. I thought maybe it had been CC'd somewhere in the processing as sugar should be gluten free. Since then I have used a raw sugar and haven't had any issues.
  22. IMHO your doctor is flat out wrong and your body is bearing that out. I would stop taking the tablets immediately.
  23. Keep up with the diet strictly for a bit. The blood tests are not as reliable as we would like. Your body will tell you the answer if you give the diet a chance.
  24. I am so sorry you are having to go through so much. One thing that worked for me to gain weight was Wylde pretzels, they are gluten and soy free. One bag has about 1000 calories. I almost never am hungry and have a hard time keeping weight on but when I needed to gain 10 lbs I would open a bag in the morning and just keep munching them all day with the goal...
  25. If the toast was on your plate with the eggs and bacon, or the eggs and bacon were cooked on a griddle that was used for pancakes or the like then yes you could have gotten CC'd. While for me the reaction takes longer to happen what you describe does sound like a gluten reaction.
