  1. For me the biggest help is cool compresses and a topical hydrocortisone cream. If I am having a very bad time with it, which hasn't happened since I have been gluten free, I used to get a short course of prednisone from the doctor. For me the benydral doesn't help but it would make me sleepy so I would sometimes take it at night. Be sure to check all...
  2. Thanks so much for the info on Boar's Head. I'll have to pick those up next time I shop. I love hot dog's baked in saurkraut on a summer day.
  3. I don't think the gluten is stored in the fat. I don't know about the antibodies though. My first question would be what are you eating? Have you simply decreased food and increased activity or are you using meal replacements and artificial sugars? Many low carb items have soy, are you by any chance sensitive to soy? Some of us will also be sensitive to...
  4. Yes, Elevated Esophinals are common and many have them found during a scope even if the villi destruction isn't complete and here are a couple links On SC although you may have seen them already. Open Original Shared Link Diagnostic Value of Anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Antineutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibodies for Inflammatory Bowel Disease: High...
  5. The answer to both is yes. It is quite possible to have gluten intolerance and not have an allergy to wheat. Dairy allergies are also different from intolerances to lactose or casien. It is possible to still have issues with both. With celiac you need to avoid dairy at first because the area that produces the enzyme that helps to digest lactose is damaged...
  6. Welcome, Things will get better. It can take some time to heal so try to be patient with your body. Your in the right place to learn what you need to do to heal and to keep yourself safe. Many of us do go through a bit of withdrawl and it can take some time to ferret out all the places gluten can be. Some sublingual B12 may help a bit with healing the memory...
  7. If there was gravy there likely was gluten. Usually gravy has wheat unless it is a gluten free gravy. Then the package will say so. If you suspect DH if you go to a derm and ask them to check for it they can biopsy the area next to the lesions to look for the antibodies. The biopsy has to be from clear skin not the lesions themselves.
  8. The mix does have natural flavors. I always check with the company before consuming anything with that in the ingredient list. Don't know for sure that was what got you, what else have you eaten as far as processed foods go in the last 1 to 3 days? We can have delayed reactions.
  9. I'm sorry you got glutened. I hope you feel better soon. Every time we go out we are playing roulette. That's why I don't eat out very often.
  10. I agree. One additonal note the original posts are from a real long time ago. Ingredients may have changed.
  11. I think you have a good plan. With the oral sedation do make sure what they are giving him is gluten free if your DS is already gluten free. Get the name and the maker of what they use and check with the company that makes it. I refused treatment at one sedation dentists because they kept handing me something I knew wasn't safe. They gave me a script so I...
  12. If a root canal is needed that doesn't automatically mean a crown. I had root canals in my front incisors and they were simply filled at that time. About 30 years after the root canals were done the teeth did crack but I avoided needing crowns done on them. Front teeth can be filled sucessfully and even rebuilt. I had one that I broke when I ran into a...
  13. Pharmaceutical development manufacture and marketing 1090 Horsham Rd. P.O.B. 1090 North Wales, PA 19454 USA +1-215-591-3000 Here is their contact info When I contact a company I will not only ask if something is gluten free I also tell them that I have an allergy to wheat. The reason I do this is because wheat starch can be considered gluten free so...
  14. Yea I think that is what he meant also.Do as the doctor advised and go with whole unprocessed foods until you heal a bit more. Bland doesn't have to be boring though. A piece of chicken rubbed with fresh herbs would I think fit in the bland description. A piece of chicken with a cajun style rub wouldn't. A couple of quick suggestions- I sometimes will...
  15. Please, please don't do this to yourself. You can not just be gluten free most of the time, as I think you are seeing. The gluten free diet is just not a diet you can safely cheat on. There are a lot of good gluten free forms of bread, rolls and pizza crusts. Kinnickinnick and Grainless Baker make some good products. I am having a burger and fries tonight...
  16. Enterolab does not diagnose anything. They simply tell you if your body is forming antibodies. Antibodies cause the autoimmune reaction. Both celiac and 'gluten intolerance' are antibody driven. IMHO they are different 'legs' of the same animal.
  17. I actually would disagree with this. The simple reason why is I would be labeled gluten intolerant by some doctors because I don't show up positive on blood work. I had scores of autoimmune issues since childhood. Personally I consider them both to be the same thing but with perhaps different systems effected.
  18. Well now you know why when doctors are doing a directed challenge they order you to do it with a single ingredient food. I used cream of wheat and triscuits. Yes the severity of the reaction was normal. Your body had a week of nothing with what it is forming antibodies to. It is trying to tell you in no uncertain terms you were doing the right thing. My first...
  19. Yep it even causes lesions that look like MS lesions but in a different location. I am so happy to be able to walk and talk again and my memory, which was also severely affected, has even improved.
  20. I wouldn't touch it. I would imagine the CC that gets us from shared lines measures out at that low of a level also. It's nice to know they at least tell you about the barley though.
  21. You do have the option of simply doing the diet. You would need a challenge, as I said in my previous post, if you decide to test later. However if money is a concern the option to simply do the diet, follow it strictly, and see if it helps is there. The gluten free diet will not prevent testing for other conditions if you still have problems that haven't...
  22. Sean, You were born with the genetic predispostion to develop celiac. No one can really tell you if your previous smoking was masking symptoms. It is easier to tell you that the stress of quiting may have been your trigger. You need to keep in mind that if you go gluten free without testing, and I am not telling you not to, that if you decide in a couple...
  23. Gosh that sounds so good. I will have to try it. I found the cakes a bit dry also. Adding a half cup of sour cream to the chocolate helps. I haven't tried it with the yellow. I think the chocolate chip cookies are good also. I make mine in bars cause I am too lazy to stand by the stove doing multiple pans. I just use a rectangular pan, I think it is 9 by...
  24. Welcome. You sure do sound like you could be one of us. One of the first things you should do, if you haven't already, is ask for doctor for a complete celiac panel. If that is positive many times a GI doctor will want to do an endoscopic exam. If your blood work is positive though some doctors are skipping the endo and just putting folks on the diet. The...
