				ARCHIVED Blood Test Accuracy
ravenwoodglass replied to angiegoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can still be celiac even with a negative biopsy and negative blood tests for that matter. As far as the biopsy goes damage can be patchy and it can be missed in the areas that they take the biopsy from. I would go gluten free after the biopsy and not even wait for the results. With a firmly diagnosed parent and the strong positive blood work you have... -

ARCHIVED Feeling Lost - Can You Help?
ravenwoodglass replied to lostinwa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have a good doctor that at least knows the blood work and be inconclusive. But do go ahead and get the tests done and then start the diet and see how it goes. I haven't looked throughly at the link above but it looks like it may be a good one. You do need to degluten your enviroment, get a new dedicated toaster, wooden utensils should be replaced and... -

ARCHIVED Acquaintance Claiming There's A Cure For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sure can't cure it but it can be helpful with relieving the symptoms. I have livedo reticularis, I turn purple when glutened before I was diagnosed I went to one, turned down all his herbal concoctions but I would lay down purple and get up a normal color. Both he and I were amazed but as soon as I went home and ate, gluten of course, I would be purple... -

ARCHIVED Goodbye My Sweet Friend Dairy...
ravenwoodglass replied to Marz's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The diet sounds very healthy, healthier than most people do. Yes you may be able to tolerate dairy again. Give yourself a few months of healing and then try yogurt and cheddar cheeses and see how you do. Those have very little lactose so if it is a lactose intolerance after you have healed there is a good chance you will be able to consume them. If it's casien... -

				ARCHIVED Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to hercules25's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Glad to hear your starting back on the diet again. Don't be surprised if your tied to the bathroom in a day or two. I hope you are feeling better soon. Some sublingual B12 may help a bit with the fatigue. -
The NIH has some good info you can print out, if she won't believe them she won't believe anyone. Here's a link to their awareness campaign Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Anyone Take Immodium For Their Bowel Issues
ravenwoodglass replied to willabec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think you should have a colonoscopy and have the doctor do stool testing for bacteria and possible parasites if that hasn't been done already. You should also consider that you may have another intolerance. Are you eating soy and dairy? They are the most common other intolerances for us. You could try eliminating both completely for a bit and see if it... -

				ARCHIVED Entero Lab Question
ravenwoodglass replied to siglfritsch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do agree that your wording may be more appropriate. I don't agree that he is giving a diagnosis however of anything other than the antibody reaction. One nice thing about this board is that all opinions are welcome. -

ARCHIVED Acquaintance Claiming There's A Cure For Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with everyone. We all know there is no 'cure' for celiac. It was thought long ago, and some doctors still believe, that children will outgrow it. But as we know they don't. Sometimes after a long while on the diet some folks will seem to stop reacting when they eat gluten, for a while anyway until the antibodies build up. Unfortunately many don't... -

				ARCHIVED Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to hercules25's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You could also have both celiac and chrons. I would do as Skylark advised and try the gluten-free diet after you are done with celiac testing. You don't need to wait for the results as false negatives on celiac testing are unfortunately common. Being gluten free will only effect the testing for celiac. If there are other issues going on they can still be... -

				ARCHIVED Entero Lab Question
ravenwoodglass replied to siglfritsch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab does not diagnose anything. They simply tell you whether your body is making antibodies. They also state on their website that if problems continue after eliminating gluten the person should be checked for other issues like Chrons. -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Suspect Other People Have Celiacs?
ravenwoodglass replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was told for years I was lactose intolerant, turned out that after a short time gluten free I could eat ice cream with no ill effects. If she misses dairy products that might be a way to intice her to at least get tested. As for your DD, my DS was literally addicted to pasta. From the age of about 1 when he got his first taste of it a meal was not a meal... -

				ARCHIVED Purposely Hurting Self
ravenwoodglass replied to revenant's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
How long have you been gluten free? How strict are you with the diet? The reason why I ask is because for some of us depression is a part of the glutening process, for me it is the first thing that happens when gluten gets into my system. Gluten is an addictive substance. I wonder if you are reacting to unknown glutening with depression which is then triggering... -

ARCHIVED Insomnia Because I'm Peeing So Much
ravenwoodglass replied to munchkinette's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you are eating any processed foods could you drop them for a bit and see if it helps? Since you don't see the doctor until the 3rd can you call his office and see if you can get a fasting blood sugar and A1c done along with any other blood work and a urinealysis done now so he has the results in front of him when you go to the appointment? That way he... -

ARCHIVED Deamidated Gliadin Positive, Gene Negative
ravenwoodglass replied to Matisse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ravenwoodglass Were your weakly positive tests blood or stool? Thanks. I was never stool tested for gluten because by the time I knew about Enterolab I had been diagnosed celiac for 5 years. My DD and DS both had low positive tests with blood tests and DD with biopsy, that prompted my now ex husband to be blood tested and he was positive also. I... -

				ARCHIVED Fasting Glucose & Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Seeschell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your numbers are not really too bad and I do think you can get it under control with diet. Do start checking your BS levels daily and do check after meals for a while. Before you give in and take metformin do check the side effects and adverse reactions. Pay particular attenition to the black box warning. I have very severe reactions from gluten and the side... -

ARCHIVED Manufacturers Telling The Whole Truth?
ravenwoodglass replied to curiousgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yea the caps that hold them should be fine. The only thing I would watch out for if you have been assured that they are gluten-free is wheat or barley grass and that would be listed in the ingredients. They are considered gluten free but most of us don't tolerate. -

				ARCHIVED Fasting Glucose & Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to Seeschell's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
How often are you checking your blood sugar levels? Something I found really helpful was to keep a diet and bs log. I would test before I ate, an hour after and then again 2 hours after eating as well as my morning stick. That helped me see how what I was eating was effecting my blood sugar. I had it under control in a couple months. I also got a book on... -
What is your diet like usually? Are you going with mostly fresh unprocessed foods? Also have you eliminated gluten from stuff like makeup, shampoos, lotions etc? Are you taking any supplements or drugs either OTC or script? Supplements can carry a gluten free label and still contain wheat and barley grass if you take supplements make sure you read all the...

ARCHIVED No One On Moms Side Has Celiac
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Neither do I. I sure do have celiac though. Your DQ8 may have come from your fathers side. But you can have celiac and not have either DQ2 or DQ8. -

ARCHIVED Deamidated Gliadin Positive, Gene Negative
ravenwoodglass replied to Matisse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am one of those 'lucky' oddballs also. Just be glad you were able to get correctly diagnosed. It did take a very long time for my arthritis to go into remission and I did have to be superstrict including avoiding distilled gluten grains in alcohols and vinegar, which are things most celiacs tolerate. If your really curious about your genes you could have... -

				ARCHIVED Entero Lab Question
ravenwoodglass replied to siglfritsch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We got your post the first time. Did you get any blood work or a biopsy before you went with Enterolab? Well if not you should have. I am sorry you feel the 'ripped you off' and glad you finally got smart about it and went to a GI doctor, which is what you should have done in the first place. By the way if you are gluten free or gluten light the blood and... -

				ARCHIVED Lay's Wavy Potato Chips
ravenwoodglass replied to Skylark's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lay's does not have a dedicated plant. Are you supersensitive? I am not saying for sure that is what has got you but for me eating Lay's products is a crap shoot. If you want to see if that was what it was close up the bag and leave it until your feeling better then try them again and see if the same thing happens. I should note that most of us eat Lay's...
