  1. Connie the word is agoraphobia. I have been fighting it now for the last year and a half. It hit the worst after I was diagnosed, although I had it before then, but the gluten issue acutally made it worse because I was so fearful of accidents on top of being afraid of people in general. Mine came from abuse in childhood that continued on after becoming an...
  2. Connie, What you did was a gluten challenge and it was positive. You now know for sure that gluten is something you have to avoid. I am also a blood test negative celiac and trusting those blood tests almost cost me my life and certainly destroyed my quality of life and my childrens. The neuro symptoms you are describing are all to familiar to me. and many...
  3. I find cream of buckwheat cereal to be very soothing. I also do gluten-free chicken broth with some Thai Kitchen rice noodles and toast with cinnamon sugar.
  4. One of the best ways, IMHO, to add fiber is to add sweet potatoes to your diet. They have been used in oriental medicine for a very long time to regulate the digestive system. They have both soluable and insoluable fiber so they help with both D and C. If you like them they might help a great deal. I like them best sauteed with a sprinkle of brown sugar,...
  5. You have one great husband. Is there any way at all that you can fit a motel stay into the budget for that weekend? If you can please do. You have had enough pain from that woman and to have to deal with it again in so short a time frame must be really tough on you emotionally. Perhaps check on line to see if there might be some inexpensive places close.
  6. I am going to suggest dropping the Dr Pepper for a week and seeing what happens. It won't hurt and may help.
  7. I would give anything to have had your family doctor, anything. It would have made such in difference in my and my childrens lives. Please listen to him and not the clueless GI. Just take great joy in your families health and be glad that your family doctor was wise enough to recognize the celiac issues in your son. That doctor has saved him, and your other...
  8. Does the Savonnerie shampoo have soy in it? I have a topical allergy to soy as well as an intolerance so soy in shampoos will break me out and cause itchiness and eating soy makes my hair fall out as well as other nasty effects. May not be the issue for you but thought I should mention it, just in case. I loved the Giovanni line until I developed...
  9. Gee didn't you see the constant press that celiac got last month during Celiac Awareness Month? Just kidding, I wish that was the case but yes I also think the reason we don't see PSAs or commericals is because of the fact that it is a diet change and not a drug treatment. Literally millions of dollars are made by the health industry and drug companies off...
  10. If it helps you to eat your fruit between meals then please do so. Fruit is an important part of our diets. If even then you are finding raw fruit or veggies hard to handle also try cooking them at first. You'll still get some benefit even if cooking does decrease the vitamin C levels a bit. I personally think this guy is a kook but that doesn't mean that...
  11. The 'if you believe it' wasn't directed at you it was directed in folks in general. Sorry if it seemed that way. I edited the post to read more as I meant it.
  12. Me too. I either use the self sealing kind, tape or I wet a paper towel and run it across the flap.
  13. Count me in to. 10 years of infertility, horrible cramps and heavy bleeding with D at each period from the time I was in my 20's, early menapause and when I had my tubes tied after I finally had 2 children the simple 20 minute max procedure turned into an over 2 hour one because of all the adhesions that I had in my abdomen.
  14. If people believe that perhaps they will buy this also: Open Original Shared Link "Drinking Cold water after a meal = Cancer! Can u believe this?? For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed...
  15. Yes please do. I hope your good health continues.
  16. I do hope you have verified that the Celebrex is gluten free. Not all meds are and doctors really don't know. Check with the company that makes it. I found it useless when I still had arthritis but since my stomach was always upset I don't know if the celebrex contributed to it or not as I was taking a handful of different drugs prediagnosis. It could...
  17. Actually this info is very valuable because there may be other stores that have some of the older not gluten free products on the shelves. I will have to check for the gluten free ones next time I go shopping.
  18. One of my favorite comfort foods is Cream of Buckwheat. I use the Pocono brand which is grown in dedicated fields, harvested with dedicated equipment and processed in a plant that only processes buckwheat. It is very similiar to Cream of Wheat but has much more digestable protein. You might want to avoid restaurants for a while and you may want to avoid...
  19. I agree with the other posters. Yes you do sound like 'one of the family'. You really should get blood and biopsy done before you go gluten free. It was rather irresponsible of your doctor IMHO to tell you to go gluten free before that testing was done. If you go gluten free before testing it will pretty much insure a false negative on the tests. That said...
  20. There have been people on the board who have reported having negative tests. In some cases it was when one in the family was diagnosed celiac and all were tested. Since most of the folks that go to Enterolab are having issues I don't personally find it unusual that many would show up gluten intolerant. People that feel great and don't have symptoms don't...
  21. Many feel worse for a bit before feeling better. It can also take some time to get the hang of the gluten free lifestyle. It is a good idea to drop dairy at first also and go with a whole food unprocessed diet. Eat mostly meats, chicken, seafood, fresh and unprocessed, fruits and veggies, cook these as your tummy will have an easier time digesting them, beans...
  22. I would give the diet a good strict try for him for a couple of months. The biopsy was positive and with low total IGA you are correct that would cause a false negative on blood work. You have nothing to lose by getting him on the diet and everything to gain.
  23. I'm wondering if they actually changed the formulation. Did the old packages have soy sauce as an ingredient? If so it has likely always had wheat (in the soy sauce) they just didn't let you know before. Perhaps not the case but a possibility.
  24. It is the antibodies and they can work against any system not just the gut. Some, like myself, have brain or skin impact long before any gut symptoms appear, for example.
