  1. There are many that consider celiac and gluten intolerance to be the same thing just as a diagnosis of DH is also a diagnosis of celiac, even without villi damage. Some of us will suffer neuro or skin issues or other problems like liver or thyroid impact before gut symptoms become apparent. You have antibody reactions from both and the need to be strictly...
  2. If it was wheat based it should have to be listed on the label according to FDA regs. I am supersensitive and if they did use wheat for that I would be constantly ill as I eat Minute Rice a couple times a week. It is normal for us to have good and bad days early on. What are you typically eating? Have you checked all toiletries, shampoos, craft materials...
  3. For a long time my upset tummy didn't have any pattern and could hit without warning at any time. Then for the last 5 years before I was diagnosed I would be sick every night, all night in addition after eating and in addition to all the other problems you see in my signature. I was very hard to diagnose as I don't show up in blood work. After I was finally...
  4. You could go with Enterolab. They test for antibodies in the stool and while they don't diagnose celiac if you are producing antibodies you do need to stop the gluten. They can test for up to a year after you have gone gluten free. You also have the choice of trying the diet strictly for a few months. With the high level of false negatives in testing for...
  5. IMHO she is pretty much diagnosed. Her lack of growth and the anemia combined with the celiac testing is pretty conclusive. If you are not going to put her through a biopsy then I would get started on the diet. I am glad your doctor was savvy enough to test and hope she is soon doing better and outgrowing her clothes faster than you can replace them. Your...
  6. It can take a bit of time to heal. Many of us find it helpful to drop dairy at first, you can add it back in when you are feeling better. Try to go with whole unprocessed and single ingredient frozen foods while you are still healing. There is a bit of a learning curve to being gluten-free and it does involve more than the obvious foods. Make sure you a have...
  7. I don't think so. However it can be caused by inflammation. Celiac can cause severe extensive inflammation. There are a few of us on the board that have gotten relief from asthma gluten-free. Including me.
  8. Yea they had a list that long when I was first diagnosed and I was overjoyed to see it. Unfortunately I didnt scroll down far enough to see this: The above products do not contain gluten; however, they are produced on the same line as our products that do contain gluten. Although the lines are washed between batches, a slight residue may remain on the...
  9. I don't think the minute rice would be a problem. I eat the name brand and a couple store brands frequently and I am pretty sensitive. My thoughts also went to the crockpot. HerbOx bouillon is gluten free but it does have soy. You may want to keep a food log to see if other soy products bother or if you see any other pattern. It isn't uncommon for us to...
  10. I had severe nerve damage from celiac. I used to worry that folks would think I was an alcoholic because of those trembling hands. It did resolve along with most of my other neuro issues once I had been gluten free for a while. One thing that seemed to help with healing my nerves was sublingual B12 tablets. I can't say for sure it will help your son but adding...
  11. There are some companies that will not hide gluten ingredients under the natural flavors, Kraft and Unilever and Hormel are a couple of them. As a general rule I will call a company about a product with natural flavors listed just to be on the safe side. When I call I ask if something has wheat, rye, barley, oats or any of their derivitives. Since some folks...
  12. Yea I could never figure out why I would feel drunk and get a hangover from alcohol free beer. It was the neuro effects of gluten on my brain. Like you I can have two or three gluten free alcohol drinks and be fine the next day but give me one gluten derived drink and I am in lala land and sick as a dog the next day.
  13. Have you taken him to a derm to see about getting the rash biopsied for DH? If the test for DH is positive that is a positive for sure diagnosis of celiac and no other testing is needed. The derm need to know how to do the test, the skin next to the lesion needs to biopsied and they need to be specifically looking for dermatitis herpeformis. It might be the...
  14. With the small bowel study what they are going to do is have you drink some contrast material. You may need to fast after midnight but not always, your doctor will tell you. Anyway, after you drink the contrast, and be sure to have them make it gluten free as not all are, they will then take some xrays to see your intestine and how fast the contrast travels...
  15. I am so sorry for your loss. I will continue my prayers for her and her family.
  16. The biopsy is the gold standard and trumps the negative blood test. It would be nice if the blood tests were definate but there are false negatives. Keep up with the diet. You clearly reacted and it is not unusual for the effects to take what seems like a very long time to go away. I hope you are feeling better soon.
  17. Yes the enamel on the teeth can be impacted. Many of us have crowns and multiple fillings. It is quite possible that your fractured teeth are related.
  18. You could look into Enterolab testing, they can test if you have been gluten free for up to a year. They have a web site that will have all the info for you. It does sound like the diet is starting to help. It does take a bit of time to heal and we all have ups and downs in the beginning. There are folks here that were self diagnosed so it is not uncommon...
  19. Actually I did read your whole original post. If you are still getting small amounts of CC your immune system may be fighting that and not able to handle fighting off things like viruses. I was always sick and caught everything that went around until after I had been gluten free for a bit. I should have added that but it was early in the day when I replied...
  20. I was misdiagnosed with diabetes because I had an A1c measured once when I went to the doctor for relief after a severe glutening. In the next year after repeated home testing I realized the only time I had a high BS level was when glutened. I would make sure that they do keep and eye on his BS and A1c after he is gluten free. Just to be on the safe side...
  21. I don't think being celiac would have any effect on your BAC. Celiacs do not tolerate some gluten derived alcohols which can make you feel more intoxicated and have a worse hangover though.
  22. Any illness or stress can effect your blood sugar levels. If you are celiac and not gluten free that could effect those levels.
  23. Is your house gluten free? Have you done the kitchen things that need to be done like a dedicated toaster, no cooking with wheat flour even for others, restricting where others eat gluten foods to help keep crumbs down etc? Have you checked all meds OTC and script, script drugs that are generics need to be checked at each refill, supplements, some will say...
  24. If your still having issues you really should consider something you posted in another thread. "McDonald's french fries have no more gluten than distilled vinegar or distilled spirits.....all of witch are in question.....all of witch I consume with no issues whatsoever. I've only been on this site a couple of months and have already seen these questions...
  25. I am sorry you are still having such issues. Are you going with a whole foods unprocessed diet? Have you tried eliminating the most common co-intolerances? Soy and dairy (casien) are the most common problems. It took me 5 years to realize that soy was a huge issue for me. After dropping that things got much better quickly. Welcome to the board and I hope...
