  1. Yes but it did take awhile. It was about 6 months before I noticed a real difference with energy but the stomach pain and constant D ended before that happened. My tummy issues resolved within a month, with some slip ups of course gluten wise. Even after 8 years I sometimes still get glutened but now it is only about once or twice a year. I was sleeping...
  2. Yes there is dessert after gluten, and it is good. I really like the Kinni chocolate covered doughnuts too. There really are a lot of good treats around, more and more every day. In some ways that is a bit unfortunate as I can now grow hips.
  3. Are you being glutened? How long have you been gluten free?
  4. Are you having any pain or other gluten type symptoms? Are you passing any regular formed stool or do you have D? Are you constipated? Are you running a fever? Have you seen your doctor or called his office and talked to the nurse? It might be a good idea to do so.
  5. Welcome to the board and the gluten free lifestyle. You will find a lot of info here. It can be hard at first, go with as much whole unprocessed food as you can to heal faster. Ask any questions you need to you have found a good place for info and support.
  6. I hope they did a celiac panel with all the other blood work but I don't see one. I can't give you much input on your test results for the other items and you will have to wait on the doc for that but the 'cobblestone' is a good indication that they are on the right track looking for celiac. No matter what your biopsy results you would be wise to begin the...
  7. It is not unusual for the reaction to be delayed. As my allergist explained it can take some time for the antibodies to build up enough to cause the reaction. As to whether you need a doctor derived diagnosis I have to disagree with your doctor and her habit of rescoping every two years indefinately for folks with celiac. According to the NIH after 5 years...
  8. If what you are doing is working well then just stick with it. I hope you don't get too ill on the holiday. I would try to eat as little actual gluten as you can, if you can eat before you go that might be a good idea. If you need the gluten-free diet you eventually are going to have to tell them. One really good reason is because of the strong genetic nature...
  9. The ears and the sinus both drain into the same area. I wonder if perhaps some of the solution may have gone up into the 'ear tubes' somehow? Don't know for sure just a guess. You may want to see an ENT doctor and have them check things out.
  10. Just a note for those of us in the US. This is from the Canadian makers of Dannon - Danone yogurts. If you are in the US the list may differ.
  11. True caramel is simply heated sugar. It is definately gluten free. Caramel candies would need to be checked as would any item because of the possiblity of flavors or other ingredients. Wheat would have to be listed but barley would not be. Maple syrup that is real maple syrup is going to be safe but some of the imitation maple syrups are not.
  12. My allergist did form the diet to me and my eating habits but here is what he started me with. Plain white rice, turkey, sweet potatoes, peas and cranberry juice. No coffee, tea or other beverages other than water. No spices, sugar or pepper. No butter, no margarine etc. Those five foods in pure form were all I was allowed. I should note that all those starting...
  13. It didn't take 11 weeks for you to get as sick as your were prediagnosis and it will take some time to heal fully also. Do take it easy on yourself, do what you can do and let the rest go or hire a junior high school girl to come in for an hour or two a day to take care of some of it if you don't have freinds or family that have any time to help. It takes...
  14. My allergist had me continue the elimination until I was feeling better for 2 weeks. He had me do a true elimination diet though where I was only allowed 5 foods to start with. I was allowed to start adding stuff back after that 2 weeks. Wheat was the second thing I challenged, good Irish girl I am I did potatoes first. Do keep in mind that gluten reactions...
  15. I would go with an allergist for an elimination diet. They will test you for true allergies and formulate a starting point for the elimination that will be designed for you. It will be complete nutritionally and designed so you get enough calories. It can be hard to find an allergist who will guide you through the elimination process so do ask before you...
  16. I am glad to hear that he is on the list and hope the ped GI can get him in soon. I would suggest that no matter what the test results are that you give the diet a good strong try. If it helps that is diagnostic, as a last resort. Kids do get accidentally glutened. Many of them especially when a bit older can feel the effects it has on them. Even if he should...
  17. I don't know if the IgA deficiency will make a difference or not. Hopefully you did mention that to the derm, he might know. Do be sure to give the diet a shot after testing is over. It can take a bit of time for DH to totally clear if it is DH but it will clear up.
  18. I am so sorry your little guy is going through so much. False negatives are even more common with children than with adults. That applies also to the biopsy. June is a long way away for a little guy who is so sick. Can you ask them to put him on a cancelation list so if someone cancels they can slip him in sooner. Also talk to a nurse maybe, ask for advice...
  19. Gosh I wish ND's would refer folks to their regular doctors for a celiac panel before they do an elimination! If you feel you need an 'official' diagnosis you really need to get back on gluten for a couple months then test. That said if you are doing well gluten free and then challenge it for a week that should be quite telling as far as your body is concerned...
  20. "To the best of my (little) knowledge, I am doing pretty well. I am feeling much better. Symptoms I have had for years are subsiding." Since you are feeling much better and symptoms are subsiding please don't let a negative test result convince you that gluten isn't an issue. It is tough at first but your body is giving you the best answer. No matter what...
  21. It appears in the US it isn't but since you are in Canada I would grab a can and call the company. It may be safe there.
  22. Your not alone. I almost never feel really hungrey either. The only exception is right after I have been glutened, then I can't get enough for a couple of days. I also think this is because my body is processing food normally now. I was constantly starving for the first couple months gluten-free but before that when I was on gluten I didn't feel hungrey either...
  23. Another thing you could do would be to call every allergist in your area and ask if they help with intolerances and elimination diets. They will skin test you first and take a survey of what you usually eat. Then the doctor will give you a starting point of 5 or so foods that are nonallergenic. If your symptoms, or when your symptoms get better you then add...
  24. Or perhaps the other way around. The airways get inflamed and then they constrict. It is nice to breathe free again isn't it? I can even go out in the cold now without having a coughing fit.
  25. If you still a little nervous you could try putting her hand in a very thin plastic bag first. I think if she or the teacher hold it so that it is tight against her hand, not wrapped but just holding it from above, she could still get a good print.
