ARCHIVED You May Already Know About The Mercury In Fillings...
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Dylan to be honest with you I don't think it is the fillings. I have had a mouth full of silver fillings for over 40 years. My teeth are the typical celiac teeth and practically dissolve so I have much more fillings than teeth at this point. I had many of your symptoms and much more. I gave up gluten and after a rough two weeks of withdrawl I began to... -

What a nice thing to do. I would love to join you but since I am half the country away that just won't be possible. What is being served? -

You bring up some very valid points. It is important that people become knowledgeable about all the benefits and all the risks of any procedure. -
ARCHIVED Instant Quaker Oatmeal
ravenwoodglass replied to clnewberry1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Definately not safe. Please be aware also that even with gluten free oats some will react. If you want a good hot cereal that is definately safe, has a lot of digestible protein, B vitamins and more try Cream of Buckwheat. The Pocono brand is grown in dedicated fields and processed in a plant that processes only Buckwheat. They also make a Kasha for a... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Germ Oil In A Gluten Free Product?
ravenwoodglass replied to MELINE's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bet they are going to tell you that since it is oil and not the protein you can take it. Don't do it! Return it to the place you got it from or give it to someone who is not celiac. -
Something that I found helpful was acupuncture combined with an OTC anti-inflammartory. I use St josephs baby asprin. For me the pain seems to come from inflammation and it did take a while to die down. I also developed an intolerance to soy which causes the same type of pain for me but not the other gluten related issues. It helped a great deal when...

I hope you have many more. Keep in mind that for many of us gluten is addictive. That can make it very hard to resist the temptation to cheat. You may find after you get through the first few weeks totally gluten free that you no longer have the craving for it you do now. Getting to that point can be rough but you have to bear with it. It will be so...

That's why I don't donate things like gluten-free bread. I donate for sure gluten-free canned goods like delmonte veggies, fruits and tomato sauces, bags of rice, Thai rice noodles, Spam and gluten-free canned chickens and tuna, gluten-free condiments, gluten-free broths and that sort of thing. The folks that work at the food banks don't have any training...

I have done both in my lifetime. For me after a short while without food I just stopped feeling hungry. Personally if I ever end up in that situation again I would pick starving.

ARCHIVED Wait, Or Diet Now?
ravenwoodglass replied to whistle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It does sound like DH. Chances are when you are doing your challenge a outbreak will appear. If you do see a derm and get a positive biopsy from that then the endo would not be needed for diagnosis. A diagnosis of DH is a diagnosis of celiac. -
ARCHIVED Female Trouble
ravenwoodglass replied to henny's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This disease is so much more than just a gut disease. I went through a very early menopause because of it. Doctors don't really know why this happens or why we tend to have trouble concieving or why we lose more babies. It happens even with those of us who haven't got extreme nutritional defiecencies. I also spotted within a year of being gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED You May Already Know About The Mercury In Fillings...
ravenwoodglass replied to mr. moore's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I hope things go well and that you do get some resolution. Have you been eating a 'pure' unprocessed diet to prepare for it as many have reccommended? I sure hope so. As far as the 'why me' goes, well I used to think the same thing and I am sure many of us here have. And about much more than just diet. In the end though everything I have been through... -

Boy did this bring back memories. This was the only bread we had available for a while and I used to just make my DD's sandwich for school the same way. She always complained it fell to pieces as she ate it. Then I discovered that the bread is parbaked. It has to be microwaved or toasted to finish cooking. I would zap it when I got up and then let it... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Use Aczone For Dh?
ravenwoodglass replied to christiking's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
How long have you been gluten free? It does take a bit for the antibodies to leave the skin. I don't have any experience with that drug but the diet followed strictly will heal the DH. Make sure you are checking everything you eat or put on your body. Check all your toiletries and lotions, shampoos and makeup and also for the time being eliminate gluten... -

That sounds familiar. The sudden bathroom dash was so very familiar to me for over 15 years. Well actually 10 the last 5 I just lived in the bathroom. I blamed everything but the wheat I shoveled in my face multiple times every day. After all if your stomach is upset your supposed to eat toast to settle it right? If your Dad will visit us here and... -
ARCHIVED Different Reactions From Different Gluten Sources...
ravenwoodglass replied to wschmucks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also react more strongly with wheat but I do react to barley. Barley will also give me metallic taste in my mouth which wheat doesn't. Oats will get me too not as bad as wheat but worse than barley. I haven't tryed anything with rye. -

ARCHIVED Scared To Death Of My Biopsy
ravenwoodglass replied to GFinBC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Don't be too scared of the biopsy. What they normal give is a sedative that will give you amnesia so you wouldn't remember if it was uncomfortable anyway. The most common one is Versed. If you are extremely anxious about the procedure mention to the doctor and see if they can give you a tranquilizer, usually they would use valium in either the form of a... -
ARCHIVED Is Del Monte Ketchup Gluten-free?
ravenwoodglass replied to David's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My bet for the culprit was the peanuts. Heinz ketsup is also gluten free and the distilled vinager is from corn, just in case your someone who reacts to distilled gluten grains. -

glad you were able to access it. At least now you can get reading and hopefully you'll be able to get the class notes soon. -
I have developed splinter hemmorhages under my nails and was cruising Medline to check if it was anything to worry about, I guess it is, but anyway I found this on clubbed fingers. I never knew that it could be associated with celiac. Thought others might find it interesting also. Not a lot of detail there but still worth knowing. Open Original Shared...

ARCHIVED University Not So Accommodating =(
ravenwoodglass replied to num1habsfan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sounds like a good plan. Do be sure to be extra polite and courteous to the woman in the email even if you want to beat her with your keyboard. If that doesn't work then contact your advisor next. He or she will be able to guide you in setting up an appointment with the dean. I hope you are able to straighten this out without too much more trouble. Also... -
ARCHIVED University Not So Accommodating =(

When you told her you were going to be missing the next 2 classes on the first day what did you say the reason was? Were you ill that day and knew you would get worse or was it for another reason? If it was not for an illness related problem that may be what is behind the change in attitude of the disability office. If you were ill can you produce records...
