ARCHIVED Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Nic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since he has already had the biopsy you can go ahead and start the diet. You need to do that regardless of the outcome of the biopsy because of the high number of false negatives. You may have the answer before you go in to review the results. -
ARCHIVED Replies For Clarins, Origins And Caudalie
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It looks like this company doesn't know what gluten is and the rep was just looking for the ingredient 'gluten' in the products. Sometimes I get a better result by asking if the products have any 'wheat, rye, barley or oat derived ingredients' including oils and alcohols. It also helps if you have a UPC number to give them, that way they think you have... -
ARCHIVED Question
ravenwoodglass replied to Nic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would get the blood test done and then try the diet. Unless you plan on doing the endoscopic biopsy, then the child would need to be on gluten until that was done and even if the results were negative you would want to do a good trial on the diet. I am a big fan of dietary exclusion as a diagnostic tool. Without it I would be dead by now. Not an exaggeration... -
ARCHIVED Very Hard Stools
ravenwoodglass replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This sort of thing can be a result of intolerances, are you consuming dairy or soy? If you are you may want to eliminate them one at a time and see if this stops. If you have already eliminated and are sure it is a fiber issue then one of the best ways to regulate is sweet potatoes, they work for both D and C. Try adding one a day, I like to boil them... -
ARCHIVED Hard Time Dealing
ravenwoodglass replied to bellababy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One other thing that I forgot to mention was the need to get some sublingual B12 tablets. Most of us are not able to utilize it from our food or supplements that are swallowed because of the damage to our gut. I will make a big difference in your energy and mood and aid the brain and nerves in healing. You can not take too much of it. It will help a great... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy: A False Positive?
ravenwoodglass replied to mom2lucas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't know this either, I do know that a lacto-resin derived from milk is commonly used. Perhaps the ped got the two confused. -
ARCHIVED Biopsy: A False Positive?
ravenwoodglass replied to mom2lucas's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He isn't very far into the diet, and gluten is sneaky, it can be a lot of things that you wouldn't expect. I would drop all dairy products from this diet for the time being. He may have a problem with casien, the milk protein and not lactose, the milk sugar. For the time being try to give him as little processed food as you can, fresh veggies, fruits,... -
ARCHIVED Been Absolutely Crazy For 5 Years
ravenwoodglass replied to nyspurs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your story is going to be familiar to a lot of us. I especially can identify with the agoraphobia. Have you started the diet yet? Please be sure to give it a good shot after any testing that you choose to have done is done. There are many false negatives on blood and endo testing so be sure no matter what the results say to try the gluten-free lifestyle... -
ARCHIVED Cigarettes Have Gluten?
ravenwoodglass replied to MELINE's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If a nonsmoker smokes any kind of cig it will make them ill. It is after all a toxin. An oldfashioned way to keep a kid from developing the habit after a parent found them smoking was to make them sit and smoke a whole pack nonstop. By the 5th or 6th cig most kids would puke, thus ending any desire to develop the habit. Of course nowadays this would most... -
ARCHIVED Hard Time Dealing
ravenwoodglass replied to bellababy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was right where you are 6 years ago. I was there for over 10 years before I finally was diagnosed. 6 months before I was diagnosed one of my kids told me they would understand if I committed suicide, and the thought did cross my mind more than once between the gluten caused depression and the constant pain from not just the gut but also from arthritis... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Reaction To Bandaids?
ravenwoodglass replied to Nan2N's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have problems with bandaids also. I have found that Wegmans makes a bandaid I can tolerate with no issues though so I think the adhesive that is used in a lot of them is very much an issue for me. I never let them stick a bandaid on a blood draw, They hate me cause I won't even let them use the alcohol wipes without wiping the alcohol off before they... -
ARCHIVED Philosophy Beauty/skin Care Mostly Gluten Free!
ravenwoodglass replied to Dolcenotte's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wonder why they don't label it as the synthetic form then? The synthetic form usually has d- in front of the tocepheral. I would most likely try it if I recieved this response but I would do so when I was using nothing else that was suspect. I should note I have had no problems at all with the Hope in a Jar, in fact I find it quite nice, however the... -
ARCHIVED Worried About Neurological Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to Nan2N's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It can take a very long time for the B12 deficiences to show up in blood work. They watched mine drop from over 500 to 212 over a year and still said everything was fine. Finally the neuro said that even though my levels were still technically in the normal range that I should get the sublingual B12 anyway to see if it helps. I was prediagnosis at the... -
I don't know if I would be able to wait on that cake. I would be sitting at the table at midnight with fork in hand. You are very lucky to have such a sweet kid, give her an extra big chocolatey hug tommorrow. Happy belated too and enjoy the cookout.

ARCHIVED Is Cc A Danger From "bird Seed"?
ravenwoodglass replied to toomuchagony's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I love the way you put that! I am glad you were able to find a suitable seed. You might want to just take the cage out in the yard and give it a good go with a scrub brush instead of buying a new one. As long as you get it really clean you should be able to keep it. -
ARCHIVED Pre-diagnosis
ravenwoodglass replied to koolmom1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you go to the Campbells web site they have a list, and it isn't very large as far as the soups go. I believe (but I could be wrong) the cheddar broccoli is but I have never seen it in a store. Progresso labels for gluten real well. If you have a Wegmans in your area they label all their gluten-free stuff. There are some breads that really are... -
ARCHIVED Why We Should All Be Drinking Wine...
ravenwoodglass replied to CuriousOne's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are just starting the healing process I would make it a rare treat for a bit. The main reason I say this is that many of us have our liver and pancreas adversely effected by celiac. For example many will have liver panels indicitive of the damage seen commonly in long term overuse of alcohol. I don't think that it will do anything frankly to help... -
ARCHIVED Worried About Neurological Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to Nan2N's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I know how scarey things like that can be. It can take awhile for the brain and nerves to repair but usually they will. Are you getting plenty of protein? That can help a bit and do heed the B12 suggestion. If you don't want to do shots if you get some sublingual B12 that should help a great deal. I was very far advanced neurologically when I was diagnosed... -
ARCHIVED Dh, Blood Test, Stomach Biopsy - Help!
ravenwoodglass replied to chatycady's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Perhaps if you live close enough you could get together with him and fix up some pizza with a good gluten-free crust, I like gluten-free pantries french bread mix and even gluten eaters have had no complaints with it. Get some Thai Kitchen rice noodles and make some chinese dishes with those and gluten-free soysauce. Cook him a stew with potatoe starch... -
ARCHIVED Why We Should All Be Drinking Wine...
ravenwoodglass replied to CuriousOne's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
"So is this why Mediterraneans are healthier? They are eating these glue foods... but they drink wine throughout the day. In fact in Spain the government recommends men to drink up to a half bottle of wine a day..." The countries you are referring to are some that routinely test for celiac starting in childhood. They also will exclude gluten as an issue... -
ARCHIVED Help My Squirrel Is Out To Get Me!
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I often wish I lived in the country so I would get more of variety of the larger creatures, not the bear though he might be fun to watch. I would love to see a fox in my yard. We have them in the area so who knows they may visit at night. I should set up my 'wildlife' camera when I get the ponds up again. We also had a hawk a couple of weeks ago... -
ARCHIVED Searching In Desperation?
ravenwoodglass replied to momto2monkeys's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Trying her on a gluten free diet is not going to do any harm and may lead to the resolution of her problems. Get her ped to do a celiac panel if it hasn't already been done, just in case she does show positive on one. There are a lot of false negatives so even if the blood tests are negative do the diet for a few months anyway. You don't need anyones permission... -

ARCHIVED Help My Squirrel Is Out To Get Me!
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hope this gives you all the smile it gave me this afternoon. Okay this is the strangest thing gluten related that I have had happen since I went gluten free. I was innocently working in my garden getting the fish pond ready for the season. The birds are mad at me for draining their bathtub so perhaps they spread the word to 'get' me. I am standing there... -
ARCHIVED Questions About Intrepreting Weleda Statement
ravenwoodglass replied to Lisa16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Glad I could be helpful. If your skin likes it and is a bit dry and sensitive the mix of olive oil and ground almonds would make a nice gentle exfolient for the face also. Coconut oil might be nice too for this if your skin tolerates it, and most do. If your skin is dry
