ARCHIVED Tinglying In Feet And Face
ravenwoodglass replied to bisja's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I take the Country Life vegetarian sub-lingual B12 with folic acid. There are other good brands also but I like the Country Life myself. I also use Royal Jelly (from bees) which has some B12 in it also and that seems to help my appetite quite a bit. As far as the accuracy of the blood tests for levels folks are right about them not being a great tool... -
ARCHIVED Grocery Store Visit
ravenwoodglass replied to scott-in-pa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If the area you are in has a Wegmans that should be your first place to go. Wegmans labels all their gluten-free food, and they are very gluten knowledgeable. If you don't have a Wegmans then the lists that are already provided will also be very helpful. Sticking with whole unprocessed foods is the safest way to go in the beginning. It will help you... -
I don't know if you realize it but gluten is an addictive substance. When you continue to eat gluten after your diagnosis you are keeping the addictive process going. You need to find safe alternative treats to eat and keep those with you at all times. The longer you are able to stay away from temptation the sooner the withdrawal will be over with. The...

ARCHIVED Stride Gum Reaction
ravenwoodglass replied to Shawn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It could be either one. Some of the artificial sweetners are not gluten safe and we all know about the danger in those words, 'natural flavors'. Thanks for the heads up. Have you called the company to ask what was in it? Just curious as to what they say. -
ARCHIVED I Would Appreciate Advice About Beano.
ravenwoodglass replied to nikki2008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't touch it with someone else's hand. Period. My opinion but I am zero tolerance, and not by choice. -
ARCHIVED Is Ensure Gassy?
ravenwoodglass replied to nikki2008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Only if you are intolerant to something in it. Are you intolerant to casien or (if in it) soy? -
Your doctor sounds like a good one. You have gotten some good feedback on that. I just want to thank you for bringing back lots of memories with this post. We had lots of fun in terminology class making new words out of the greek roots. Not wanting to be a rectodynia here, although many here have considered me one , and send things off topic. Just...

ARCHIVED Tinglying In Feet And Face
ravenwoodglass replied to bisja's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Although your malabsorption levels are good that doesn't always mean that there are not deficiencies as the fecal fat score measures the amount of fat that is in your stool not the vitamin and mineral levels. You may want to get a good sublingual B12, that will help resolve the nerve issues more quickly. -
ARCHIVED H.pylori And E. Coli
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you checked all the supplements that your naturopath is giving you for gluten and other items that you are intolerant to? Most naturopaths are very good and they can be very helpful but some of them are not aware that even small amounts of items that we are intolerant to can damage us. The one that I went to was very helpful, but I did find the two... -
ARCHIVED What's Wrong With Me!
ravenwoodglass replied to cupp125's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It was an allergist who finally was able to diagnose me after years of suffering and multiple false negatives on blood work. Do be sure to ask when making the appointment if the doctor deals with food intolerances. Many only do true allergies but some will guide you with elimination diets to pinpoint intolerances. Mine did an allergy scratch test, I was... -
ARCHIVED Sister's Test Came Back, Negative Help
ravenwoodglass replied to sandpiper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am DQ3 but this also applies to me. If I had waited to show positive on a blood test I would be dead. The DQ stuff is the gene testing results. When I was tested they considered only 2 genes DQ2 and DQ8 to be 'celiac' genes. They have now found 7 more. Celiac really is a spectrum disease and I hope they start to recognize it as such soon. For many... -
ARCHIVED There Must Be Something Else Going On Here Besides Gluten
ravenwoodglass replied to ilikepie's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you eliminated gluten from all your toiletries. shampoos, lotions and things like pet food, do you do crafts or home remodeling? All can be sources of mystery glutenings. Also some of us are sensitive to gluten grain alcohols and vinagers, even though they are safe for many. If you use condiments or drink gluten distilled beverages you may want to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hair Color
ravenwoodglass replied to radgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Herbatint is a natural product that you can get in health food stores or in Wegmans. When I still colored I loved it. It is produced in Italy and they do have a web site if you want to try it and can't find it. I used the permanent form but they also make temporary veggied dyes (check the gluten statis on those) and some real wild colors for the young... -
ARCHIVED H.pylori And E. Coli
ravenwoodglass replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How are you feeling? If you are feeling ill the usual course would be to treat with antibiotics. If you are not feeling ill and these are simply findings then things could be a bit different. Ecoli is something that is normally found in the GI tract. That is why ecoli infections are generally linked to poor hygeine by food handlers or contamination in... -
ARCHIVED Baby's Biopsy Back
ravenwoodglass replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like he is recognizing that she has an intolerance but that it is not full blown celiac, yet. I would tend to side with you and want to prevent her from developing full blown celiac. She has had a negative effect from adding it back in and that in itself is telling you her body doesn't want it. It has to be so hard on you to have made her sick... -
ARCHIVED Enzyme Potentiated Desensitisation Treatment For Coeliac?
ravenwoodglass replied to DonnaD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This sounds like an allergy treatment. You can be desensitised for allergens but not for autoimmune reactions. Even a small amount can keep the autoimmune process going. I wouldn't do it, it is snake oil if they are trying to sell it as a treatment for gluten intolerance or celiac. -
ARCHIVED Flour Inhalation With Allergy Mask?
ravenwoodglass replied to AdLucem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would use one that was OSHA approved for small particulate matter. They usually have a screw in filter device that can be changed when needed. The ones you use that are paper and just sit on your face with an elastic cord don't usually help a whole lot. They don't seal properly for most folks. -
ARCHIVED St Patricks Day
ravenwoodglass replied to irish daveyboy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A Happy St Patricks to everyone. As you can see I am always wearing my green. :D Glad I had my Redbridge beside me when I opened the link though. -
ARCHIVED A Tough Choice To Make
ravenwoodglass replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I would come right out and offer. You should get any monetary agreement in writing if possible but I would do it even if she is reluctant to do so. It sounds like you guys enjoy the baby and he enjoys you. Just be sure that she leaves that car seat every weekend, do NOT get in the car unless the baby is in one. In the event of an accident the baby will... -
ARCHIVED Airborne Eposure And Contamination
ravenwoodglass replied to Dennis wayne's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree totally with Deb. They will also tell you that all distilled gluten grains are safe, not a statement that applies to all of us. The knowledge about all that effects us with celiac is not well known. -
ARCHIVED Medication Used To Soothe Glutening Symptoms
ravenwoodglass replied to Gentleheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know about the inderal but the Xanax does not have a gluten-free form, so I would avoid that one. Have you thought about maybe going with acupuncture for anxiety relief? It may do the trick and not mess with you brain chemistry. For many being gluten free takes care of these issues and they only come back when glutened. My family just deals with... -
ARCHIVED Head Twitches
ravenwoodglass replied to Mr. Peppa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Every body is different, as is every bag of combustable materials. It is hard to know for sure whether or not something has been added although it is not common to spike pot. If others you are smoking with are drinking beer or smoking cigs that can contaminate the bong or pipe, just like if your significant other is drinking a beer and you kiss. Sometimes... -
ARCHIVED Constant Pressure In Left Side
ravenwoodglass replied to debmuma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you ever had a colonoscope done? This could be from diverticulosis which is common with celiacs that have had a lot of C in their past. Everyone is different but I found when I eliminated soy that this feeling, swelling whatever it was went away. I was concerned also and underwent a scope and an ultrasound, external and internal to check for anything... -
ARCHIVED Baby's Biopsy Back
ravenwoodglass replied to Worriedtodeath's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You say she was on wheat for 96 days, was she gluten free before that? If so how did she react to the diet? Did you see symptoms come back on her 96 day challenge? The symptoms would not always be just GI symptoms, how is her mood, sleep, etc is also important. How she reacts when you add gluten back in is the most telling and that is more diagnsotic... -
ARCHIVED Can Taking "lactaid" Etc Harm You If You Are Not Lactose Intolerant?
ravenwoodglass replied to toomuchagony's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may want to check into Ghee it is lactose and casien free as can be used as a butter replacement. I would wait until you are more healed to add dairy back in regardless of the lactose issue unless you know for sure that you do not react to casien. The same villi that produce the enzyme that is needed to digest lactose are damaged with celiac. Many...
