  1. Try not to get discouraged, it can be rough at first but we have to remember it took a long time for us to get sick enough so this was found and it can take a varying amount of time to get better. You should get over the withdrawl period soon and things should improve alot. For me it was like this great cloud lifted about 2 to 3 weeks into being gluten...
  2. Actually CSA does not exactly say that, this is from their web site. Open Original Shared Link "Alcoholic Beverages FOUNDATION STAGE: Wine and brandies without preservatives and added dyes; potato vodka; most rums and tequila. EXPANDING STAGE: Distilled liquors known to be...
  3. That's really hard. In my family what got everyone over their doubts was my return to reasonably good health and remaining that way. The difference in our medical bills alone was astounding and that made my DH realize that it wasn't bunk. The difference was less obvious for the others because they had not been anywhere near as sick as I was but after testing...
  4. That particular one is okay so you lucked out. I also go with the McCormick spices. Do make sure you change that toaster though and tuck it away or cover so gluten eaters do not accidentally use it. It is a pain but it is needed there is no way to get all the crumbs out. Also make sure you have all your own condiments and your own stick or tub of butter...
  5. "I don't know if it's related, but he went back on gluten 48 hrs. ago and has had one loose stool (not normal for him) and has had several bouts of crying/screaming. He also said his tummy hurt after dinner last night. I hate that we have to put him on gluten again just to get ready for the blood test." What you did was essentially a gluten challenge,...
  6. First off Welcome, you have come to a place with a lot of nice knowledgeable folks. Feel free to ask any questions you need to. I don't eat Pebbles but one way I found to get the info is to type the item and gluten into the search bar on google. Many times the companies link will come up and it saves a lot of time over just trying to find the info...
  7. I asked my GI doctor after my first colonoscopy if I could take Golightly once a week because I noticed the same thing. He was still clueless and it was another 5 years before I was diagnosed. I would have gone gluten-free just to get rid of the arthritis pain, I couldn't even type by the time I was diagnosed and walking was only possible with canes. The...
  8. Me too, and throw vinager and grain vodka in there also. One grain vodka and I black out for the rest of the night, potato lets me remember my good time
  9. Because everyone is different and some do seem to tolerate distilled grains (I do not and won't touch them) what I would do if I were you is I would get a small bottle. Then drink a shot a night for 3 days. Then wait another 2 to 3 days and add nothing else suspect into your diet at that time. If after this trial you haven't reacted then you know that...
  10. My celiac disease began with motor difficulties and stayed predominately motor related for over 20 years. It began with 'foot drop' and progressed by my teens into ataxia. I grew up thinking everyone felt like they were falling over and did not know that foot drop wasn't normal until a surgeon discovered it when they operated on my feet at age 11 because...
  11. While endometriosis is a possibility before you undergo an exploratory laproscopic procedure have you had a colonoscopy? Diveritculosis or outpouchings in the large intestine are fairly common with celiacs and can also be a cause of pain in the lower left quadrent. They can cause problems even when diverticulitis (that's when they become inflammed) is not...
  12. I think many of us can identify here. I know I can. You got some good advice about the dairy, cut it out pretty much completely for about 6 months or so then you can try to reintroduce using hard cheeses and yogurt. The villi that are damaged by celiac are also needed to absorb and digest dairy, they may just need time to heal. You could also be casein...
  13. I unfortunately I knew nothing and the doctors that did the celiac panel over and over again never told me what it was for only that it was negative and I should be glad because I wouldn't be able to eat anything. Meanwhile I became sicker and sicker and eventually was close to death before an allergist discovered it. I was confirmed by my GI after a challenge...
  14. You are not experiencing a 'gluten like' reaction it is a gluten reaction. Coke uses the codex standards for gluten free. I also react to it. I have a zero tolerance for gluten and avoid their products.
  15. What tests has she done? They are notoriously unreliable on young children and even some adults. At times considerable damage can be done to the brain and the childs growth and health before a positive blood test is achieved. Have you tried the gluten free diet for at least a few weeks? What was the outcome? What course of action is she proposing...
  16. Putting iodine on the skin then covering it and looking for a reaction was an old school way of testing for DH. I have always reacted to iodine. But I had severe DH in childhood (they wondered how I got poison ivy 12 months of the year). My Mom stopped using it on me in early childhood though so I don't remember much about the reaction. I haven't used...
  17. " my diet is not very various since I am afraid to get reactions, so I only eat now: chicken, rarely slamon rice, gluten-free oats lactosefree milk, cheese gluten-free bread bananas low-fructose veggies (mostly lettuce), in germany I could eat everything (g- and l-free of course) without problems, even drinking alcohol. so maybe you think I am...
  18. I am so sorry to hear she isn't doing well. If she was doing okay for a bit try and figure out if anything she is doing, eating or prescribed has changed. Does she take any generic meds? The binders they use can change and her pharmacist should recheck them. Has she changed any personal products, gotten her hair done, any new hobbies? Are her vitamins...
  19. I agree the glutening is most likely from the coffee shop. It is very hard to eat in restaurants etc and still be safe. It can be done but there is a lot the staff has to think about.
  20. Contact his doctor and contact the head of the nursing home or better yet have your lawyer do it. Be firm as Ursa said they are killing him and not painlessly.
  21. Hi and welcome to the boards. There is a bit of learning required with this diet but before you know it you'll be reading labels like a pro. The best place to find answers to your questions is under the foods and products listings further down on the board. These subjects are common ones and you'll find answers to a lot there. Also be sure to check...
  22. Have you talked to your allergist again yet? Let her know what is going on. You may be sensitive to one of the starter food or you may be unknowingly glutening yourself with something that 'looks' safe. An example of this would be if she started you out with rice as a starter food and you are eating something like rice crispies which have gluten. When...
  23. If you had gone to the link you would have seen that it is a detailed explanation of what to look for in their products that are made in the US. It does not give a gluten-free list as Kraft in the US does not do them, they tell us to read the labels. Thus since it is not for a particular product it is not out of date but details how they are dealing with...
  24. Here is the link for the one in the United States, if I find ones for other countries I will list them also. Open Original Shared Link
  25. I find the 'read the label' advice to be of little value, I react violently so I want to know for sure. I found a list of the products that Kraft certifies as gluten-free. Personally I will only use those products, they may have others that are but it is not worth the risk to me. I find it interesting their shredded cheeses don't appear at all which makes...
