  1. Ursula, I agree with this completely. It would also give them a chance to realize how much you do for them. I would make that a real long visit if I could.
  2. Welcome to the boards. The loving to cook as others have said will be a big help to you. The mixing flours thing got to me to. I felt more like a chemist than a baker and if I was in a gluten fog I always find some ingredient I had left out. Then I discovered Bette Hagmans Flour Mix, and there are others around also. That symplified things a lot. The...
  3. Glad to hear you like the greens, they are great. When you wash greens and veggies do you use just water or do you use something that you spray on that is supposed to get them super clean? The reason why I ask is because some of the rinses that they sell for veggies actually have gluten. I also love cooked greens and one of the favorites ways that I...
  4. When I was frequently haveing seizures before diagnosis I would usually have an aura shortly before the seizures began. Mine were olfactory, I would smell things that weren't there. Sometimes it would be like men's cologne but most of the time it was the smell of baking bread. This started when I really young and haven't had a real bad seizure in years...
  5. Spinach does not grow in 'heads' that's lettuce and the lettuce is fine. The only thing they are 'recalling' is bagged spinach, this is very dark green and is leaves. You should always make sure to wash all veggies and fruits before eating. Cooked spinach or frozen that would be heated is ok.
  6. Don't worry about the side effects, just worry about whether it is gluten-free. The less you look up side effects the less likely you are to suffer from them. Make sure they are gluten-free then just take them. You did take all the prednisone you were prescribed right?
  7. I am so sorry this happened to you and hope you feel better soon. If it was gluten you should look at what you have eaten and drank or come in contact with not the same day but up to 3 or 4 days before you got sick. Gluten is an intolerance so for most it is a delayed reaction which is one of the things that makes it so hard to identify at first. A glutening...
  8. Thank you thank you for having this concern for your patient. The best way to find out what is safe is going to be to go right to the manufacturor of the products you are considering using. There should be phone numbers available on the product or your hospitals pharmacy will have them. Again thank you for your concern, many of us are scared to death of...
  9. I used acupuncture prediagnosis and found it amazing. I have livedo reticularis from the celiac, prediagnosis my skin was covered in a dark purple blotches, when I would leave my sessions they would be gone for a few hours. This alone proved to me that something beyond a psychosomatic reaction was occuring. It helped a lot with the pain and stiffness...
  10. I wouldn't take the metamucil either. If he wants you to take it for the fiber maybe you could add some more fruit or veggies, slowly and see if it helps. I can't be sure about the time gap for the second round of tests but I suspect it is because the findings on the sig were unremarkable and they suspect that nothing serious or life threatening is...
  11. They don't call from prisons either. Drugs should be the last resort not the first. Talk therapy can be very helpful for many also, but...... I wasted years in therapy at $160 a pop 2 times a week. The end result being that my shrink pronounced me saner than he was after over 2 years and we then got referred to a endo because because the decision...
  12. Lister if a doctor thinks you have something life threatening they are able to get you in very quickly and would do so. When I switched doctors before diagnosis my new doc called a GI on my first visist and I was picking up the prep after I left my regular doctors office. I didn't even meet the GI until I was prepped for my procedure the next day. That...
  13. I am so glad things are improving for you. With the skin issue make real sure all your toiletries and lotions etc are also gluten-free and if it is gluten related it should improve. It does take a while for the skin to recover but I had the same sort of lesions and my skin is now nice and clear - unless I get glutened. I hope things continue to improve...
  14. Check out this page, it is from this site under the heading related disorders https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-38106500222.2d Sorry I just took a closer look and it seems to be mostly info on the corelationship with Type 1.
  15. I recently contacted Carnation Instant Breakfast and thought I would post their reply. September 11, 2006 Thank you very much for contacting NESTLÉ® CARNATION® INSTANT BREAKFAST®. The flavorings used in CARNATION INSTANT BREAKFAST Ready to Drink contain barley malt syrup, which contribute less than 1 part per million of barley gluten in the fin...
  16. I have had kidney problems and had been bleeding into my urine when glutened in addition I also get blisters but that is more associated with my DH reaction. I found this on the mainpage here. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-07106053022.b7
  17. Ususally a root canal is done when the pulp of the tooth has been exposed and is infected. I don't know if this is the case here or if there are other reasons for doing it. Have you considered getting another opinion from another dentist on this? I think I might. When they remove the pulp the tooth essentially is now dead. It will eventually become weak...
  18. Lister the endo is the test you need the most. IMHO Do not cancel that test. The doc is saving you money by doing both at once. I think the endo will give you answers. The blood tests your doc wants to rerun are needed also, you don't know what may have changed.
  19. No she is not being responsible. Although I would prefer to think that she is just uneducated. Did you tell her that you are also celiac and know this isn't safe? As far as ignoring a CYA statement, every so often I will risk it and usually regret it.
  20. I am glad you now know for sure and for certain. Welcome to the family.
  21. You may want to try some good old pepto bismal. When I get glutened I get stomach pain and it really seems to help. If pepto doesn't work you should consider checking with your doctor, especially if you don't have any of the other symptoms that you normally see when your glutened. If it is heartburn related to accidental ingestion of gluten the pains...
  22. I use St. Josephs Baby asprin. I use it as a low dose and also take it for pain relief when I have been too busy in the garden although it feels weird to take 8 at one time. I get the true baby asprin chewables not the adult low dose, if you go with the adult call to make sure it is also gluten-free.
  23. Until you mentioned this I hadn't even thought about it but I haven't had a floater now in a couple years! I used to get them all the time from childhood on. Hmmmm I also realized the other day I don't tap my leg constantly any more when sitting. I heard 'can't you sit still so much as a kid So many strange little things that change, makes ya wonder...
  24. Thank you for posting this history it helps folks to understand better where you are coming from. I am sorry your Mom had to go through so much. It is well accepted that in some cases depression does present with physical symptoms. I am also sorry your Mom suffered so long before she realized that she was not helped on the diet. Just as there are multiple...
  25. I would drop the Liquid Chlorophyl. Do you know for sure what is in it? Gluten is a delayed reaction so I would be very suspicious of that product.
