Thanks so much for posting about the seafood. Perhaps this is why my son has had a breakout this week also. We have been searching for something we had consumed in common and thought perhaps we had a CC issue in his case that had been mild. I linked my outbreak to some supplement shakes but it didn't explain his. We ate shrimp twice last week perhaps...

ARCHIVED Arrrgh! Gluten Free Isn't Iodine Free
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It will trigger DH sores. Mine had finally started to heal completely after I found this out and switched vitamins. Each shake I consumed had 25% of the daily requirement. I was consuming 6 a day. Thanks Patti I hope it does too. Feels like the last time I wore a panty liner but at least the stuff was gluten-free so I don't have any tummy... -
ARCHIVED Need Blood Thinner Substitute For Aspirin
ravenwoodglass replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It can contain gluten it is always a good idea to call the manufacturor to check. I use St. Joesph's childrens chewables for my daily low dose asprin. I know that one is gluten-free and it tastes good. The suggestions for an asprin sub sound good, especially the tumeric one. I think I may try that instead but would rather use it in cooking. Wonder if... -
Hi Nicole, It is not only children that can show a false negative adults do at times also. In countries that test routinely asymtomatic children are checked at age 4 or 5 and then again at puberty. It can take a while for enough antibodies to show up. There are also times when a doctor will decide a low positive is a negative unfortunately. Considering...

Yea this is most likely from gluten. Be sure to check out the DH section of the board and also watch out for iodine. -
ARCHIVED Arrrgh! Gluten Free Isn't Iodine Free
ravenwoodglass posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have been losing a lot of weight since they discovered diabetes in addition to my celiac about 2 months ago. I started drinking Wegman's gluten-free 'Nutritional Supplement' last week to gain some back. I added 6 a day to my diet and have managed to gain but 3 or 4 lbs but the cost has been dear. My last DH sore had finally been healing but I had noticed... -
ARCHIVED Glutened At The Gi?
ravenwoodglass replied to olalisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sure sounds like you have been glutened. Have you added anything new other than taking the pill? Any new lotions or shampoos or toothpastes? Have you inhaled anything like drywall dust? Anything different other than this pill? Please do let us know what the doctor says but I would also get my hands on the 'sheet' from the company and call them directly... -

ravenwoodglass replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Found Out What Was Wrong
ravenwoodglass replied to Jennhaz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jenn, You might want to check out the link in related disorders to a neurological paper on celiac. It is a very good one. I am not a medical professional but I am someone who's neurological system was greatly effected by celiac disease. You say you have not been tested for celiac. IMHO you should be but then again everyone should. You also might want... -
ARCHIVED Best Advice For A Newly Diagnosed
ravenwoodglass replied to Kaycee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The best advice I got as a newbie was to make sure all my non-food stuff was gluten free also. It was in almost every shampoo, makeup, lotion, pet food (didn't think to use seperate can-opener for 3 yrs!!!), pastes, paints, etc. -
ARCHIVED Delayed Reaction? How Possible?
ravenwoodglass replied to oceangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi although hypoglycemia is not diabetes the link between diabetes and celiac makes me think IMHO that the 2 can be related. I had hypoglycemia for years but only recently have become diabetic. I'm placing a link to some articles on the home site about the link and if I find any specific to hypoglycemia I'll add those. https://www.celiac.com/st_main... -
ARCHIVED Nih Launches Celiac Disease Awareness Campaign
ravenwoodglass replied to TCA's topic in Publications & Publicity
I believe that date is correct. I remember when it came out. I keep hoping to see the NIH do some public service anouncements and TV ads but still just lots of ads for celiac related drugs instead (not by them of course). -
ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestations
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Lynne, I can not thank you enough for this post. You have such a savvy neuro and have explained this in a way that I can finally understand. I never understood the swelling I get and because I also have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome the swelling causes joint dislocations many times in my sleep. I am so night blind I have been afraid to drive at night for years... -
ARCHIVED What About The Eucharist?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lymetoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is off the original topic but I have read, I think in Dangerous Grains, that archeological evidence shows that when humankind began consuming wheat within a generation or so the skeletal evidence has shown a decrease in stature and the sudden appearence of arthritic damage that was not present in the skeletons of 'hunt and gather' groups. Celiac has... -
You do need to let them know about the celiac and make sure that everything they use is gluten free. One of my molars went hot after an overzealous cleaning and even though my dentist had checked everything the surgeon she sent me to did not. By the time I got back from surgery, they put me out, I had blisters in my mouth and throat on the side they pulled...

ARCHIVED Great Paper On The Neurological Manifestations
ravenwoodglass replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It would be great if it did prevent it from going into the blood stream, that would be fantastic. Having it in the blood stream had in my case caused inflammation in the muscles and joints and also destruction of my pancreatic tissue and has given me the heart that looks like I ate nothing but junk food all my life. In my twin brothers case it caused his... -
ARCHIVED Delayed Reaction? How Possible?
ravenwoodglass replied to oceangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There is a link between blood sugar problems and gluten, a definate one. I am diabetic because of undiagnosed gluten intolerance. When you are having a problem with hypoglycemic reactions you need to get a carb and a protein in. Grab that piece of candy but follow it within 15 minutes with some protein and a little more carbs. A slice of gluten-free bread... -
Please make sure she trys the diet anyway. I was tested and relying on blood work cost me many years of misery because of false negative results.

ARCHIVED More Then 1 Child With Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to key's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Because we are a pharmacountry and celiac is controlled by diet and not pills. In answer to your origninal query both children and DH and I have it. I never showed up in blood work but everyone else had a positive blood test (note a low positive blood test for all many doctors would have said negative but I insisted on getting the lab results in my hands... -
ARCHIVED How To Find Hidden In Cosmetics
ravenwoodglass replied to sundance's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know about gluten in the apple wax but I do know that at the Wegmans I shop at the apples are coated with something called Lac-resin a milk derivitive. Produce was simply listed as a 'food grade wax' and they couldn't tell me what that was. I peel everything unless it comes from my garden. -
ARCHIVED What About The Eucharist?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lymetoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes I am a US citizen. I also believe in "freedom from Religion" but the way you are expressing your contempt of the catholic religion does nothing to educate or inform anyone. I share your views but not the way you are expressing them. This thread was on the safety of consuming the Eucharist not on the validity of the religions that use them. You may... -
ARCHIVED What About The Eucharist?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lymetoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many Catholics grew up in just those conditions, but many of us choose to make trials a learning experience and not use them as an excuse to hate. We don't all agree with each other but hard times are not a reason to promote prejudice they should be used to increase understanding. Are you? We also have freedom of religion and a dislike for... -
ARCHIVED What About The Eucharist?
ravenwoodglass replied to Lymetoo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, have you gotten the bile out now? I was raised a staunch catholic, I encountered many of the same conditions you did. Thank goodness my inherent internal beliefs protected me from the bitterness you appear to be experiencing. This is not the place to speak in this manner about other peoples beliefs. I left the Catholic church a long time ago and... -
ARCHIVED Delayed Reaction? How Possible?
ravenwoodglass replied to oceangirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just as an aside, I use St. Josephs baby asprin only, in recent heart testing and ultrasounds my heart looks like I eat only high fat bad for you food. The doctors attributed this to my chronic inflammation problems what went on for years before the celiac was found. I also use this asprin for pain relief even though I have to take 8 at a time. It is the... -
ARCHIVED A Newbie From Western Ny
ravenwoodglass replied to misskerry's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I love Wegmans, I don't even read the labels anymore I jsut look for the G. I have never had even a CC issue with the stuff they label as gluten-free. Early on when they first started I was careful of anything that had distilled vinager but after they pulled and removed the G from a barbeque sauce and then reformulated it with corn distilled there has never...
