  1. Some imitation crab meat is not gluten free. Shell fish that is actual shell fish, as it was pulled from the sea, should be safe but as was mentioned some people are sensitive to shell fish even without a gluten issue. If you have DH the iodine levels may cause a DH flare until you are well healed.
  2. Welcome to the board. It is normal to feel as you do. It will take some time to heal but you will heal. You may find a lot more resolves than you can imagine and in a few months you will likely feel better than you have for a very long time. While the gluten free lifestyle does have a bit of learning and takes some getting used to after you have healed it...
  3. It could be withdrawl but it also could be your body is still fighting the glutening you had. Some of us can take quite a while to go through the full cascade of symptoms that they get. And those symptoms can be different for different people. I was glutened about a month ago and just started feeling normal a couple days ago.
  4. It isn't well understood by me either. I do know that the combo of autoimmune liver disease and alcohol cost me my twin at a very young age. I think it is a good idea to keep an eye on the liver panels if someone is drinking alcohol so that if an issue does arise it can be nipped in the bud before irrepairable damage is done. Since the damage can progress...
  5. I'm still alive.
  6. Some folks just have a high tolerance for alcohol. That may or may not change the longer she is gluten free. I'm giving away my age here but drinking age in the US was 18 when I was in that age group. I could drink all night and be the only one sober enough to worry about the ride home. I think your concerns about the morning after may be valid. If she is...
  7. Welcome to the board. You both sure do sound like you might be in the right place. Gluten can be quite addictive and that can draw us to what is really hurting us. Your DD's diet sounds much like my families before diagnosis. You should both be tested. Keep your DD on gluten until all the testing is done and make sure they do blood work. In some cases a...
  8. In addition to the great responses you already got you also have to remember that we can have delayed reactions. It isn't always the last thing we ate before we got sick that glutened us. It can be something we ate as long as a few days before. You are pretty new to the diet and the advice to eat more whole naturally gluten free foods is a good one. Leave...
  9. If you haven't been tested yet you should not be gluten free. If you have been gluten free get back on gluten ASAP otherwise your testing will be a false negative.
  10. Your not the only one. Flax doesn't like me either. Good suggestion.
  11. Are gluten eaters in your house also using the same butter? If so I think you may have found the culprit. You need your own condiments, butter etc. You could also be reacting to the seed you feed them either airborne or from residue on your hands.
  12. How could I have forgotten Modern Family. The characters are great. I like the big guy, can't remember his name, who used to a clown the best.
  13. Another Dexter fan here. I had to drop Showtime a while ago but they usually have a 'free' weekend before the fall season starts and I plan a day just to watch the whole last season one show after the other. When I win the lottery I want to get the whole series on DVD. I also really like 'Being Human' both the BBC and American versions. Supernatural is...
  14. Welcome to the board. Have you been tested for celiac? It would be a good idea to do so before you go gluten free. Many celiacs seem to react to a lot of foods before they have healed. There are times when the immune system is basically in hyperdrive because of the undiagnosed celiac which can make us sensitive to a lot of stuff we won't be sensitive once...
  15. You would need to go back on gluten to be tested for celiac. Being gluten free or gluten light will cause a false negative. Did you have any celiac testing done before you went gluten free 8 months ago? You also say you are trying to be gluten free with a lot of mistakes. What are you typically eating? Are you taking precautions about cross contamination...
  16. I'm in Upstate NY. Chicken breasts run about $3.50 to $4 bucks with dark meat pieces about 5o cents less per lb. Whole chicken runs about $2.49 lb and up. Ground beef is around $2.99 to $3.49 lb for 80/20. Milk is about $2.99 gallon up and a quart is about $1.30. I get tuna on sale for $.99 or $1.29 and stock up on that whenever it is on sale. Lunch meat...
  17. I think the dentist can tell from the X-rays he takes if you have bone loss in your jaw. If you are concerned about the procedure then if this area is the one where you have 2 healthy teeth next to it and the area is not visible I personally would just leave it as is and concentrate your money on areas that are causing problems.
  18. The orthodontist needs to call and check. You could try and get the name of the material and maker and call yourself but some companies will only give this info to the dentists office as I found out when checking dental material. It will likely be safe but we pay these guys big bucks and if they won't check IMHO you need a new orthodontist.
  19. Talk to your ped. He had positive tests on blood work and has responded well to the diet. To have an endo now you would likely be told to put him on a gluten challenge and he may react badly to that. Your doctor may give the 'official' diagnosis he will need for school based on the positive bloods and response to the diet.
  20. I agree with the others. Take him to the ER and tell them what has been happening. If he is hard to wake up call an ambulance.
  21. Welcome to the board. How many biopsies did the doctor take? Damage can be patchy and get missed especially if only two or three samples were taken. If she had positive blood tests she does need to stay strict on the diet. Positive blood tests trump negative biopsy and genes. Many doctors only test for the 2 most common genes and there are others associated...
  22. Welcome to the board. Yes those are Celiac symptoms. It is important to make sure you keep eating gluten until all celiac related testing is done. Then no matter what the results are give the diet a good strict try for at least a couple months no matter what the results.
  23. The poor kid. It sounds like you are doing all you can. It is hard. I've only eaten out about 5 times since I was diagnosed almost 10 years ago because my reactions are so severe (intestinal bleeds and at least 3 weeks to recover) so I can understand her fear is well founded. I wish I had a solution for you but don't even have one for me. I hope her reactions...
  24. ((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))) I think a lot of us know how you feel. Kudos to you for even going. Some of us are uncomfortable even going to this type of function. It is depressing at times seeing folks eating all those yummy things and knowing we can't. I do volunteer work and there is always some kind of wonderful baked good that one or...
  25. Most times the procedures don't take as long as you would think. I was in and out in about 2 hours and almost an hour of that was waiting to get into the procedure room. It is good also to have someone with you as it can be hard to remember what the doctor said after you wake up and he/she comes in. You may still feel a bit loopy when you leave and do keep...
