  1. Well, I just talked to my friend. I told her what's been going on with my health and withdrawal effects and everything. She knew I'd been "sick" but I hadn't gone into detail till now. In the end, I told her that I'll do it. If she gets this other position, she probably wouldn't be starting for at least a couple more weeks- which gives me at least two...
  2. I think it's going to have to be something like that... I hate being wishy washy about it, as opposed to just giving her a commitment, but I really want to help her if I can!!! This girl needs a break, you know? She's been through the wringer (and still is) because of her jackass husband. I've known them both for almost ten years, and I've become so...
  3. I wish I had some good advice, Amanda. I'm tearing my hair out right now, trying to make a similar decision. My good friend, who is going through the nasty divorce, is an RN, and has been working 12 hour shifts on weekends only for years. She's now thinking of trying to get a position on another floor in the hospital that would be 8-4 on weekdays. ...
  4. What a FANTASTIC idea!!! Thanks Rissa!
  5. Happy Birthday, Peter!!!!!!!
  6. Oh... mah... gah... Can't sleep... Too itchy... Tomorrow's gonna be interesting, I can tell...
  7. Can't blame ya there, but I don't think it's catching. It does seem to be spreading like crazy on ME, though. Btw, I want your recipe for fried chicken! Been laughing my butt off about the Cockpot Potatoes! Went to Whole Paycheck, I mean Whole Foods tonight, in search of hotdog buns. They were sold out of course. Now I'm contemplating whether...
  8. Ouch. Well, I can tell you that my husband was extremely skeptical about cc at first as well. And he normally very supportive, as well. The thing is, it takes time for some people to "get it." For my husband, after he saw the results of in home cc a couple times (7 yr old son with uncontrollable diarrhea, and projectile vomitting for myself) that he realized...
  9. Welcome to the forum! It all might seem a little overwhelming at first, but it gets MUCH easier with time. DON'T worry about limiting your questions!!! Ask as many as you need to. That's why this forum is here. I second everything KB said. Specifically, I want to say: Nope. Yup. Here's the thing-- there are some companies out there...
  10. Now that's interesting... sort of almost like a detoxing reaction. That could be it... At this point it makes the most sense- I haven't come into contact with anything new that I can think of, to be allergic to! Edited to add-- One other "symptom" that isn't hurting my feelings too much-- my appetite has bottomed out. I think I've lost 4 or 5 pounds...
  11. Gah! I've had the same problem! I always had a pretty, clear complexion-- all through the teen years and most of my 20s... Now this past year, I've been having breakouts. (I just turned 30 this year.)
  12. There are a lot of great books out there. And this forum is an excellent place to get info! It'll take some trial and error to find breads that you like. But there's lots of choices these days... premade breads, mixes, recipes from scratch. And not all gluten-free pastas are created alike- there's brown rice pasta, white rice pasta, corn pasta, quinoa...
  13. Other than this stoopid rash, yup, I am definitely feeling better and better! Such a relief to be feeling normal again, after weeks of feeling crappy. Picture! Picture! I am so jealous. I want a kitty!!!!!
  14. (wailing) Nooooooooooo! I'm itchy as hell! I don't know where this has come from. I'm taking Benedryl every 4 hours trying to get rid of it. I haven't eaten anything new, haven't changed soaps, detergents, or anything at all. Brian wondered if it's a withdrawal symptom from the Effexor, and not an allergic reaction. I said I dunno, I haven't read about this...
  15. It is perfectly possible to have a positive blood test and negative biopsy. A positive blood test means you do have Celiac Disease, no matter what the biopsy showed. It makes no sense for so many doctors to require a biopsy for diagnosis. Why? Because biopsy is unreliable. Intestinal damage takes time to become visible. You may have Celiac for an unknown...
  16. Yup. We have some gluten in our house, too. Hubby eats it. I've found that every once in awhile, I have to do a complete scrub-down of every surface in our kitchen. Gluten seems to sprout legs and walk where it isn't wanted. Pain in the butt, but the scrub-down usually does the trick. At some point this weekend, I'm going to shampoo hubby's recliner...
  17. It's tough at first, no doubt about it. I think the first few holidays are particularly rough. But I can tell you with 100% confidence that it gets easier-- much easier! For beer, there are a couple gluten-free alternatives. I'm not a beer drinker, so I can't remember them all, but I know Redbridge is a favorite around here. (I go for mixed drinks, myself...
  18. Oh no, Julieeeeeeee- say it isn't so!!! Is this something that's kinda been building, or is it a sudden reaction? Can you do sorghum flour? I had a really great day today, you guys... actually felt better today than I have in weeks, since I started all this medication hullabaloo. I think stopping the Prozac was a smart move. The weird thing...
  19. Knorr is a company that takes an extra step. They don't just list the top 8 allergens, including wheat, but also list any other source of gluten-- rye and barley, which are currently not required to be listed. So if a gluten source isn't listed clearly in their ingredients, then it's not there. Looks like the chicken bouillon that you posted is safe. Open...
  20. Please don't bake with wheat flour. You'll end up sick every time. I'm still trying to get my mom to see this. It flies EVERYWHERE. There's no keeping it under control. The precautions you'd have to take for yourself are extreme: doing all the measuring AND mixing outside, wearing a surgical mask, and changing clothes and showering as soon as you're done...
  21. This is pretty normal. I haven't found a way to prevent this from happening yet. I try to make enough to only last a couple days. Also, some gluten-free pastas are better than others... Tinkyada brand is by far our favorite in taste and texture. It's disappointing, but I've kinda gotten used to it... I just know ahead of time that the pasta salad is...
  22. Now this sounds like summer heaven! I have an ice cream maker that I've never used, and this may the perfect thing to break it in!
  23. OMG, I'm glad you said that, I'm the same way... I sometimes drink the juice from a pickle jar. Very good for your sinuses! (If not intolerant to it... )
