ARCHIVED Do You Think It Will Work?
buffettbride replied to mysterybaby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow. That is so much to go through with a little one. I'm so sorry it has been so rough. I do hope she gets to feeling better soon. My best friend has Crohns and also had her large intestine removed and was "re-plumbed" so her small intestine does double duty. She has also undergone the Remicade treatments. Granted, she made that choice at age 27, not... -
When my daughter was dx'd we made the house 99% gluten free and did replace our wooden utensils, but not our plastic ones. I cleaned them like mad, though. If I were having a gluten and gluten-free house I probably would have completely separate utensils for her meals and a few separate cooking pans. My pans were relatively new (got them for xmas last...

ARCHIVED Enjoy Life
buffettbride replied to NorthernElf's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We consistently use the Enjoy Life choc chips and the snickerdoodles. I often find with many gluten-free brands that just a few things are *really* good and the rest I could do without. For example, Glutino pretzels ROCK. Glutino honey-nut O cereal is yucky. -
ARCHIVED Hidden Valley Ranch Dip Mix
buffettbride replied to Sesheta's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use the Hidden Valley Ranch original mix quite a bit for dips. My daughter *loves* it. I do believe it has MSG which is troublesome for some people, so that's something to watch for, but my daughter has never had a "glutening" because of it. It's also good if you take about a tablespoon of it and add it to a bag of microwave popcorn. Yummmm. -

ARCHIVED Frozen Food Suggestions
buffettbride replied to JustMe75's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have tried the Glutino frozen mac n cheese and my daughter loved it. That must mean it is good because she loves my homemade mac n cheese and she said it was *almost* as good. One thing we keep around for quick meals are either Kinnickinnick or Glutino pizza shells and just toss on some toppings and bake for about 10-15 minutes for a quick bite. ... -
ARCHIVED Is It True That Dora The Explorer Cereal Is gluten-free?
buffettbride replied to Kara'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That's my next plan. Actually, I'll be at a Super Target tonight so I'm going to check there as well. -
ARCHIVED Purell Hand Sanitizer
buffettbride replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You're right, I mistyped. The hand sanitisers don't do anything re: resistance to antibiotics. The alcohol content help kills many germs, just not the bad MRSA ones we've been hearing about the news. My family has had issues with MRSA the last 2 years. Both my husband and son have had multiple MRSA infections, thankfully none of which have become septic resulting... -
ARCHIVED Is It True That Dora The Explorer Cereal Is gluten-free?
buffettbride replied to Kara'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm yet to see the Dora Stars in a store. I shop at King Soopers (which is Kroger) and I've checked Safeway as well. Any suggestions? -
ARCHIVED Purell Hand Sanitizer
buffettbride replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is gluten-free, we have some around the house. We used to use it a lot, but it doesn't kill the really, really bad MRSA type of staph the school is probably thinking it kills, in fact, increases your resistance to antibiotics your body does need. Using hand sanitiser is a false sense of cleanliness. Nothing can really replace washing with soap and... -
ARCHIVED I Am So Worried
buffettbride replied to sammers1's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think we all probably have thoughts like that at times. I definitely worry about my daughter socially--especially about possible eating disorders and depression because it seems like Celiac is a constant obsession with food and anything and everything she comes into contact with. That's gotta take a lot out of a person--especially a Celiac who is generally... -

ARCHIVED Newbie Needs Advice-
buffettbride replied to tennyson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your attitude is what will take you the farthest! Pretty much just be patient and be prepared to taste some not so yummy food before finding the really good stuff (as far as substitutes go). That, and be patient--it could take a few days or weeks of persistence with gluten-free to notice a difference in everyone. Give yourself a pat on the back... -
ARCHIVED Need Non-food Ideas For A Birthday With The School Class
buffettbride replied to cruelshoes's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love the whoopie cushion idea! I say go for it! If not, the ice cream sundae idea is great too, even though it is a food idea. I like the glow sticks (they also come in bracelets or necklaces, etc). -
ARCHIVED How Was Your Halloween?
buffettbride replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We had a great Halloween with no glutenings! Our "candy swap" worked well. My son is allergic to peanuts and my daughter a Celiac so we did a straight swap of peanut candy for gluten candy. For any suspect gluten + peanut candy, well, my husband and I took care of that very promptly. My daughter was a bit worried about it, but she made it... -
