  1. I should add, though, that she does not have Type 1 diabetes.
  2. I just posted a similar thing in the Kids and Babies forum. We took DD in today for her 3 month check after diagnosis and they did a blood draw to see where her TTGs are now after being gluten free for a while. The main thing she said they will look for is that they are going down and not up, but it's not uncommon for Celiac's TTGs to return to what is considered...
  3. This has been our biggest improvement as well. DD was always an A/B student, but struggled emotionally and socially. Her poor body was sick so much it was hard to keep good humor about how kids are in school and just felt picked on and singled out a lot. This year she's had a fresh start and a whole summer of getting better behind her. She said it's so much...
  4. I had a serious grill-scrubbinng session since we grill SO much of our food, and much of it covered in what I know now as gluten-filled BBQ and Teryaki sauce. I can't wait until we can get a new grill and keep it perfectly gluten-free, but DD hasn't been CCd from the grill at all since I scrubbed it.
  5. We just got back from DDs 3 month follow-up appointment and a blood draw to check TTGs. DD has been largely asymptomatic since we removed gluten and VERY symptomatic when glutened accidentally. We were told that the TTGs can take a while to go down and to not be worried if they haven't gone down a lot. She also said that some Celiacs never have their TTGs...
  6. Gummy Vites is what we use. Our DD is 10 so I don't know what the dosing would be for a 3 year old.
  7. WOW! Awesome! Our Kroger stores here in Denver are called King Soopers. There was actually an article in our local paper recently how they are going to expand their Premium Select brand to include a line of organic products. All I know is I saw a picture of Glutino Pretzels with the article and I jumped up and down for joy. Our KS stores don't have a...
  8. Welcome! Celiac is overwhelming at first, and frustrating at times. There really is a trick to it though, and I've found the support found here to be absolutely wonderful, not to mention the endless gluten-free resources. I've only been doing this for about 5 months with my DD who was dxd in May. It is WONDERFUL to get rid of the tummy aches and see them...
  9. I'm in Denver and we saw the GI docs at Children's here and *loved* them. We actually worked with a physician's assistant, Stephanie Petersburg. She was extremely thorough and left no door unopened while we were diagnosing DD. Also, the dietitian (can't remember her name) is an expert in Celiacs and often speaks to the Denver Celiac support group.
  10. Well, I've always had weak fingernails, but that said, my DD who is our Celiac has awesome fingernails--the envy of every little girl. She did have leg pains at night many, many nights. My DS who we don't know about yet (he's 3.5) has very brittle fingernails and are always becoming ingrown and cracked. We're having him tested in the next few months when...
  11. I know the Laptop Lunches seem pricier than other ones, but they really do seem sturdier, and the intent is to get many years of use out of them. Plus, it supports other moms who work to keep the food for their kids healthy as well. It seems to be a quality product backed by people who care about the product, too. Not to say anything bad about folks...
  12. We had an awesome meal last night. DD said she did feel gassy but not "glutened" so who knows, but the manager really took care of us. He made her steak himself on a clean grill w/ just salt and pepper and she had a baked potato with butter and steamed veggies (more butter). Plus, he did open a fresh carton of ice cream just for her. He was a really...
  13. I talked to the manager at the Golden, CO location and he was very helpful. He said when we get there to let the server know to have him come to our table and he will help us order. We talked briefly about the menu and it sounds like she'll be able to get a steak seasoned w/ salt and pepper, a baked potato, and some veggies. I hope this goes well *fingers...
  14. I was just wondering if anyone has eaten at a Lone Star Steakhouse without any trouble. I'm trying to go to dinner with DD and my parents tonight for her birthday. She *loves* steak but the web site doesn't have any allergy/gluten-free indications. I'm going to call later this afternoon but would like to know if anyone else has tried it with any success....
  15. Awesome! Thanks for finding this!!! I live in Colorado and very close to the Arvada Vitamin Cottage. The web site say their delivery day is Friday there so I'll have to check out the goodies. I've been looking for a graham cracker for DD. YAY! She'll be PSYCHED!
  16. Ok, so I got a little excited in light of all this Alexis Stewart stuff. The least she could do is own-up to being too quick to judge the necessity of gluten-free lifestyle for some. Here is what I sent:
  17. Is there some what you can include her in the making of the foods or maybe present it in a way that seems more exciting (i.e. Laptop Lunchbox, bento, or the like?). Sounds like you have your hands pretty full and I know there are days I just want to feed my DD Dots and M&Ms and Fritos because it's easy. Some days I wish I could just feed everyone a cheeseburger...
  18. My husband and I have problems with vitamins in general and we are not gluten-free, just our DD. We both get sick when we taking vitamins w/ Iron. We both puke within about 30 minutes of taking it. We loved the One A Day Carb Smart (I don't know if it is gluten-free or not) but they don't make it any more. It did not have any added iron assuming a low...
  19. That is awesome! Glad you had good eatin'. Their ribs were one of DDs favorite things preDX so it's nice to know those were a keeper! We've been to Chilis a few times with great success. I also don't think the fryers are dedicated which would explain why the fries aren't safe, but who knows. Our servers have always been so careful to make sure DDs food...
  20. We ate at Maggiano's in Denver (Pavillions) on Saturday night and had a great experience as well. We called ahead of time and made a reservation (there were only 3 of us) and told the host gluten-free. When we got there, the chef came out and took DDs order personally. She got the corn rotini pasta w/ alfredo sauce with steak slices and broccoli. She...
  21. What we've done for my DD in the past when she gets glutened is follow it up with a good gluten-free food. Seems to provide her some relief and her digestive system something else to do besides process the gluten.
  22. I am O- and don't have Celiac Disease (at least the blood test my doc ran says so and I have no symptoms). My mom is O- and has every symptom in the book but has not tried purely gluten-free to test for dietary response. My DD, who does have Celiac is also O- (and has the super-long eyelashes). My son (who has long eyelashes) is A+. Has not been tested...
  23. I watched that too! Hubby and I both took a double-take to make sure we heard it right. We love that show so it was awesome to see that mentioned. I also talked to the manager of our local Noodles restaurant which is where we go for "fast food" these days and he said the non-gluten folks are his most loyal customers and I thanked him for realizing...
  24. I got to see at as well and watched it with DD. I wished they mentioned Celiac as well, but she was so excited to see her food on TV! We haven't had much luck with Enjoy Life products, though. DD doesn't seem to care for them much.
